  • Awesome lesson, you are a good teacher!

  • Thank you that really helped

You've just scored yourself another subscriber

  • When u r playing the high-hat is it closed or open? Does it really matter?

  • i seem to play the bass along with my highhat and i cant seem to fix it. any ideas or tips on how i can fix it?

  • great lesson....easy to understand and play along with. i'm on my 2nd day of learning by myself (having learned a couple of basic beats years ago in college) and i'm really starting to get in to it. i dont understand the transfer of doing a basic beat and incorporating fills in to it also. I'm sure with your great lessons you could be my sensei HAHAHA!

  • thanks this video really helps

  • If u close your eyes and listen to the vid...its sounds like brad pitts teaching u drums!!

  • What kind of Hi-hats you using here bud?Sounds great..Im playing on these shit sounding Zildjian ZHT and hate em!!!!!

  • iv just got a drum set about a week ago, and have just learnt this. do you know any songs that use this beat, that i can play along to? thanks

  • I have all my life loved drumming during class. Be it me drumming the table, my chair, or my pencil, but I have never really TRIED using a drum set until a couple of days ago. People actually thought I took lessons, and already knew to play the drums, but I don't. Thank you for helping me expand my knowledge of drumming.

Now all I need to do now is get a drum set...

  • Thank you. :3 My dad sucks at teaching me because we always end up fighting. I can now show him that I do know what Im doing. (he plays and has for like 32 years and ive been intrested but am just now REALLY starting) -.-

  • you are amazing! this is very helpful. thank you

  • lol when he started playing I was excepting the hum um um um am um um

  • Hey i am a complete beginner seriously i have never played drumms but i got a hand of this in fifteen mins and now i can go as fast as you did in this demonstration but i do mess it up from time to time do you think i got what it takes to be a drummer i want to take up drumming ^^,

  • thanks^^

  • Your drums sound beautiful! I am looking into making a tutorial and i was checking to see some examples. Thanks; bye!

  • I'm a beginner at drumming and dude seriously thank you soooo fucking much this helped me a ton, especially over my 8note, seriously THANKS!!!

  • I've never had drum lessons , I don't have my own kit .. I play the drums at school , I'm in a band and I teach myself .. I can't read drum Tabs or music and when I play it's like it's the only time im really myself .. What do you think?

  • @OverLoadedMicrophone I think you answered your question. Be yourself! Play! And check the Harmony Central Drum Forum too.

  • very well teach

  • All right...I'm a 25 year old crappy guitarist with bad timing. How realistic would it be for me to convert to drums at this age with once a week lessons? How quickly could I be playing in a band if I practiced an hour a night?

  • @jacobwalters85 I honestly think that if you ("you" as in anyone) practice an hour a night and take a lesson a week you can be playing in a band in 6 months to a year. That said, you can't do a band much good until you fix that "bad timing" issue. Time to invest in a metronome. Maybe "Practicing with a Metronome" should be my next vid.

  • I'm learning alone to play drums, so your's vid are great & sooo neaded help ... (: ... Thank U... (:

  • wow that bass drum sound very orgasmic

  • I had my 1st lesson a few weeks ago an that just taught me alot more !!!! Thanks. P.s can u make a few more simple videos were u break it down thank you !!! :);)

  • I will try this one so thx alot. A easy start

  • do you have any advanced lessons

  • I learned this stuff today!

  • Yesh Thank you, I just got my drum set today, and this helped me get started. I thank you, and hope you had a great holiday! :D

  • too good that was very helpful!! thanks

  • this.is.like.smoke.on.the.water.for.drums.:P

  • @TheSpoofSentral Well, if it had to have a name, you could call it "the basic rock beat." Every experienced drummer would know what you meant.

  • Nice lesson. I think I'm getting an electric drum set for Christmas, and this is the kind of vids I think are the most helpful.

    Take care!

  • Very good lesson...:)

  • after I learned this lesson, what can I do next?

  • @Meldeleieff add.more.kicks.such.as..verytime.you.dont.play.the.snare.kick.the.pedal.(sounds.kinda.metal)

  • i dont play drums, i play guitar, but in year 8 everyone has to learn some stuff on the drums. i had completely forgot how to do this but now i remember, and i actually get it this time. i think i'll pass the assesment now, thanks heaps! :D

  • Great work on this video. You explain and demonstrate this perfectly. It really helped me understand what's going on in a basic rock beat. Thank you!

  • i'm 29, is it to late for me to start playing the drums?

  • @emt600 No way! If you want to learn and will work at it, it's never too late. Start slow and basic...like with the beat in this lesson. If you have any questions, shoot!

  • @emt600 not at all, mate. I'm 34 and I've got my first drum lesson this coming Friday. :) The way I figure is that even if it takes me 10 years (!!) to learn it -- then I'll be 44 with still half my life or more left to enjoy playing around with it all. :)))

  • I don't even own drums but my friend had some and I wanted to play and I FAILED the first time then I told him I would come back and have it mastered and because of your AMAZING video i did :)

  • I have seen allot of these but you make it very understandable, thanks! How about some more...

  • this is a good and simple beat

  • thank you so much. (:

  • A Drummer!

You've got an excelent voice! A singer too.

Thanks for this 1st lesson: despite the 1 through 4 counting IT DAMN WORKS!

  • You are a good teacher. I had no idea where to begin playing drums, had no coordination, and I practice with your video and didi it correctly! :) post more lessons!

  • @ cindyMarilyn93 -got it:) thanks

    Thankyou turdadactyl

  • Practicing musicians / learners, if you could fill out my easy 4 question survey for my research project it would be much appreciated. The link is in the info of my video called practicing musicians thanks.

  • Thanks so much:) i kind of get it now

its still a little confusing with the notes

  • this really helped

  • I am an absolute beginner and know nothing about drums.

With the hit hat if there are only four counts why does it sound like more? You hit the hat hat more thanfour times. Thats the only thing i didnt get. Thankyou:)

  • We are counting 4 BEATS...1-2-3-4. Those are called quarter notes. But we are breaking those beats down further into eighth notes. (Twice as many as 4...but in the same amount of time.) So those are counted 1 AND 2 AND 3 AND 4 AND. So you are correct...you are hearing 8 hits on the hi hat, not 4.

  • The snare drum hits on the second and fourth beats in the four-beat count. The hi-hat is playing faster, but the snare is what really keeps the beat.

  • @ashikadil19

it's one and two and three and four and

that's why it sounds like more, they're actually 8 hits. but it's a fourth note.

  • Got 1st drum kit for 56th birthday...at last!!!!

Great info, will avidly refer to you, am practising now. Thank you.

  • these fish sticks are hard as tits

  • Good Job!!!

  • Much better than expert village. I already know how to do this, but it's really good for anyone who doesn't.

  • Hi! I wanna learn how to play drums, and I watched ur vid, and it helped me ^_^ thnx !

  • lol I learn this beat on school It's very easy if you understand it

  • he makes it sound easy but u can get easy play 1 on bass and hi hat 2 one on hi hat 3rd on snare 4 on hi hat if it dosnt work its me then

  • Nice kit! its got a good sound to it.

  • what i do is just keep my right hand at the high hat n say in my head is foot and hand hand but dont play the second hand ^^

  • really good teaching man! im past this stage put still good
