  • Luke the genius, wonderful stuff. Such feeling.

  • The voice of my childhood, thank you Luke wish i could have met you.

  • story goes they were in a pub in enniscorthy and a man came in and listened to them play and said would you mind if I sang something, they said sure, and he sang this, they were mesmerized

  • Makes me proud to be from Bunclody

  • Just beautiful! Thank you Kelly for keeping Luke alive through his music.

  • What a voice , what a song , what a man .. R I P Luke , you're sorely missed but never forgotten

  • between Luke singing these really emotional/passionate songs and Ronnie singing the real party, everybody-clap-hands-and-stamp-feet songs, no matter what mood your in, your covered. two legends sadly missed and irreplaceable.

  • as a wexford man its a joy to hear kelly sing of bunclody class

  • Luke was the Dubliners. Luke was a great person great singer

  • my favourite luke song! thanks for posting

    Hope all is well kelly:)

  • When I was a child you would wonder why you would be shushed by the adults for talking when a song is being sung. When you hear this powerful song you know why

  • this is folk music at its very best, by its very best.

  • @irishgeal1 I think it's music at its very very best. No voice will ever come close to Luke's. Never.

  • "This is the song Luke most wanted to be remembered for."

Is this true Kelly?? Me being from wexford and all itd be great if it was!....purely for selfish reasons of course!

  • Yep, It's true :)

it's one of the things mentioned in Des Geraghty's book.

  • I think it's one of his finest performances...

  • @kellyoneill And what a song and rendition to be remembered for. True genious and gentleman.

  • @luvs2spooge1984

(hard to translate.. loosely) thank you

the best singer in the world

  • @thatsdyn Means its a lovely song i love luke well done best singer in the world :P

  • I was curious what this meant not the song

  • I truly love this song. It's one of the rare works where happiness and melancholy join together.

    Mr. Kelly is a legend...

  • This is the first time that i have heard this song beutiful irish folk music sung by one of ierlands true greats.

  • Still can't believe how beautiful this song is. Wonderful result of a hard lifetime work. Luke had to be very, very clever singer...

  • Words Can't say!

I can only say Luke's singing is spiritual!

  • Luke is great as usually but this time also

really really wonderful song with beautiful lyrics, full of deep simple incurable sorrow. "...common grief is error, true grief will still remain" as Dowland says. Author unknown I guess. Interpretation of such a song has to be very difficult. Luke also omitted some "redundant" verses I think.

  • Kelly your place in Heaven is assured ! God Bless ya

  • Aww, that was sweet Jim, Thank you. x

  • haha im from bunclody :)

  • maith an fearr

  • we should all campaign for a National Irish music radio station cos the mainstream media never play our beautiful songs and music

  • The dub's were in enniscorthy, drinking in a boozer on the bridge, playing for their own enjoyment when a gent asked if he could sing a song for them, the gents name was michael j flannery, sure they agreed and the song was bunclody, this is where luke first heard this song. Beautiful song.

  • wexfordmark

  • Ended up the last years of my sad sporting life playing junior hurling in Wicklow! Many a trip down to the Wexford - Carlow border area and this song came to mind. Great sense of place from the great man. Like lives on!

  • Wonderful stuff. Luke was the ultimate folk singer. When he left the Dubliners earlier in his career they just drifted. They were just another group. It was after his return they became a great group. Luke was the Dubliners.

  • :) couldnt agree more!

  • where would louke be with out his great backing, ciaran bourke, john sheeehan, barney mckenna, ronnie drew,he is not the dubliners by himself,he is the best part no doubt

  • Always went to Milford and surrounding areas in Donegal pabu4, my wife came from there, I am a Glaswegian, but love all types of music, seen them in Glasgow a couple of times, but as mentioned, will never forget backstage with the guys, Jesus they could down the Guinness, and Luke just had an aura,a magic about him, I just could not take my eyes off him, he was just such a happy guy, and so easy to talk to.
