  • He he he.... Paul must have two drummers called Carl. I know the other Carl, lol!

  • Truly educational for me as a worship leader. I too play the guitar and a band is gradually forming around us - a keyboardist, a bassist and a lead guitarist. This is so very helpful. Thank You.

    Ray

  • You're a blessing sir! Keep doing this... I've played all over the world and I realize something about the states... We wanna PLAY! Not listen. lol Music contains BOTH. Add God to that and you're winning!!!! :>)

  • To everyone who has the misfortune to read the comment section at this time, I'm sorry. Apparently, this whole argument is my fault, so I'm sorry. If I could delete the whole thing, I would, because this is a great video and I didn't mean to spoil it. Thanks for listening. @lastdaysguitar I'm done trying to reason with you, so you can have this one. Sorry if I offended you or anyone else.

  • @EuphoriaMusicSession I read those comments, and that guy (lastdaysguitar) is either a troll or an arsehole, so dont worry about it

  • i am hindu.....

  • @2fast4uspartan Welcome! :) you can still play this type of music if you wish lol.

  • This is incredibly helpful! thank you so much, Paul!

  • hey is this melody part of real song? if it is please tell me the name of the song?

  • @SOILDEROFGOD Sounds like "I could sing of your love forever".

  • i have a hart 4 r lawd

  • I'd just really hate to see some young keyboardist taking the "left hand" comment as a literal and general rule... or worse: a leader insisting the keyboardist to stop using his left hand (to try to get "the sound") rather than playing (appropriately) WITH the bass.

To me anyway, interplay dynamics are/should be a kind of "living thing" in making music - i.e.: one day no left hand may be appropriate, but maybe the next day calls for it.

  • @lastdaysguitar I think by "sit on his left hand" he meant that the keyboardist could ease up on the bass and focus mainly on the high end. Obviously it didn't mean that the parts wouldn't overlap at all :)

  • @EuphoriaMusicSession Not sure why you seem to think you have the musical knowledge to make that claim, but you are wrong and it's not that obvious AT ALL - "sit on your hand" has been a common music venacular among international pros for decades and means 'sit back - don't play". So you can sit on your mouth now.

  • @lastdaysguitar Okay, well I think I can speak for the general public including me who doesn't own a smart-ass handbook when I say it's quite obvious you don't have to take it literally. Anyone who actually plays the piano or keyboard probably won't say "well, Paul told me not to play with my left hand, so I won't"

I may not be as musically prestigious as you CLAIM to be, but at least I'm not a condescending jerk when I try to make my point. Please think outside the box for once. Thank you.

  • @lastdaysguitar (cont.) I'm sure you weren't intending to do this, by the way, but frankly, your reply was exactly the kind of snobby, arrogant comment I would expect to see from a Christian if I was a non-believer, and it would do nothing but strengthen my disbelief.

I watched some of your videos, and no doubt you have musical talent. But you seem like a responsible, mature middle aged man. Starting an argument like this over YouTube is the last thing that would impress anyone. Thanks.

  • @EuphoriaMusicSession You''ve made my point exactly.

  • @lastdaysguitar I just think you should be a little more humble when responding to someone. Even if they are wrong.

  • @EuphoriaMusicSession

    Here's what's "obvious":

    U

    R

    A

    hypocrite.

  • @lastdaysguitar How am I a hypocrite? You can point fingers and argue all you want, but you're going to have a hard time calling yourself a follower of Christ with this arrogant attitude. Until you humble yourself in front of others, you will never make an impact on society or be different from any one else. You'll just be another troll on the internet.

  • @EuphoriaMusicSession

Talking to you is useless, you don't listen: you're a hypocrite.

Take a look at your own foul spirit.

As for impact - it's always a God thing.

  • @lastdaysguitar I'm not the one shooting down a brother in Christ for no reason other than to say "I'm musically and intellectually superior to you". I'm not the one who is obviously trying to take all the glory and power in this situation, when it obviously belongs to God.

My point is : I know I'm not perfect. I know that I need some work, both spiritually, and physically. I've listened to all you said. I think YOU are the one who needs work. Humility. It's a life lesson.

  • @lastdaysguitar YOU are the one who entered the conversation with: "Blah blah blah" "Obviously..." "blah balh blah".

    Just go away now troll.

  • @lastdaysguitar I entered the conversation with a kind remark, whether I was right or wrong. I'm sorry if the word "obviously" offended you. I honestly am sorry, but my intentions were good and friendly.

BTW: Internet troll: a person who survives off of the anger and frustration of others. That's not me. I'm not trying to make you mad whatsoever.. I'm simply trying to reason with you, which is extremely difficult, I've found.

  • While I understand the point Paul is trying to make to create space, I appreciate his, & his teams talent... but I, & apparently the keyboard player (who kept using both hands) disagree regarding advice that the keyboard player "sit on his left hand" just because you have a bass player. There are many times a counterpoint, pedal point, & yes - doubling bassline from keys can add incredible punch to songs & still keep them spacious.

That said, the instruments have to make room appropriately.

  • @lastdaysguitar I am a Worship leader, keyboardist and former bassist. I TOTALLY agree with you however I think he was speaking specifically to this progression in E and the way THIS groove is light. Take a song like "I am not forgotten"--Israel Houghton, in the same key (E) demands more power mostly throughout the song, you would definatley double bass on the keys.

  • great video. great info and it is free. we should be thankful

  • Please keep all negative comments off this board. Have ou ever heard" If you dont have anything nice to say, dont say it at all?" Pauls not hurting anyone so please keep that negative stuff away. I mean really...there are so many other issues like world hunger, racism, homelessness, the economy to discuss....Please, Please take that crap somewhere else!

  • aweeeeeeeesommmmmmme This a a GREAT HELP TO ALL who play for the LORD :) <3

  • i can never hear our church's keyboardists...idk why, but they should be heard...its a pleasant sound

  • Does anyone know the name of the song clip and where can I find it ???....... thanks!

  • thanks for uploading :)

  • Thank you!

  • Legal se isso fosse legendado pra Português.

  • I am a keyboard(synthesizer) player. I dont sit on my left hand. A good keyboard player should be able to play two keyboards simultanously.

I play strings/atmospherics on my left while my right plays the fills using piano/rhodes/sax/synth/flute and other lead sounds. This should be the way.

Paul Baloche is confused between the pianist and the synth player

  • this*

  • With all due respect, thus has nothing to do with "worship" thus is solely a "music" advice.

  • Can anyone recommend a good guitar and worship dvd(Instructional) that goes beyond the basics? Ive already tried hillsongs creative dvd and paul baloches modern worship etc.

    Thanks

  • type this:

( Amazing grace healing from the Lord)

and you can watch a christian song I wrote, sung and played guitar too. Be blessed with it I pray. Should see a white Statue praying by the link.

  • saw this whole video before....very great musical advice for a band working together and working as a team!

  • i love paul baloche music...im onto what he is saying. im a keyboardist and i really play sooo simple cuz im used playing with a band. My problem is when i play solo i couldn't do complex things life playing with the bass...anyone wanna help?

  • @theDragonaut Real nice comment on a CHRISTIAN themed video...real nice, pal.

  • @theDragonaut HEY! Get your blasphemy all the fuck up outta here!

  • @notofthisworld22 That's why we practice for individual improvement at home or alone at your Church.

I'm more of the reverse. I had to learn to play less busier with a full band.

  • wow!!

i was loking for a song

but i found this and now i learned something new

and better that benefits me in my church

    God Bless you brothers

  • Thank you soo much.. You made me feel so much better. In my church, Im the only piano player and we have one drummer. and it is soo true i do play base, i keep the rhythm and all chrods on one piano. Do you have any techniques for someone in my situation.

  • you' re such a good teacher

  • Instead of playing the high chords (high bar chords??) if you were playing in the upper range while on an acoustic.. Is there a way to use a capo to raise it's pitch?

    Please help! :)

  • Sure, in fact, I've seen Paul and his band use that technique as well. For instance, if you're in C on one guitar (or the keys), the other guitar, just capo on the fifth fret and play the song in G.

  • This is great! One of church members showed this video to our music ministry, and it has been helping us to make good music since then.

May I know the title of the song you guys are playing?

    God bless! :D

  • yes!!! I am glade that some one else is say that . be blessed

  • Is the drummer hearing a metronome click? and is it good to play along with a metronome in a worship song?

  • No, its not a metronome, its on the snare, he is doing a tap thing on it. its sweet

  • that's called "ghost notes"

  • Are you talking about the earpiece in his ear?

I think he is listening to a metronome. Earlier in the video he held something up to his ear i think he was setting the metronome to the right tempo. It's always good to use a metronome no matter what style of music your playing.

  • this is really a great dvd so far! I'm a bass player but man the keyboard players i play with give me no room!

  • I'm gonna be doing some clips in the near future on left-hand technique for keyboardists playing with a bass player.

  • I think that's very important - tonal stratification. Otherwise you get rhythm overload. Excellent. Nice insights. God bless. :)

  • Hi guys!

I know the chord progression, but how can I play it? It seems that he`s playing open chords, but how? Especially the E/G# is a chord, I can`t find out! Can anybody help me, how to play it?

  • Comment removed

  • anyone kno the chord progression?

  • that's just E E/G# A

  • thanks bro

  • great tips

    thanks

  • the drumsticks that the drummer is using, is there a special name for it? are they called Hot Rods?

  • hi can you tell me if this dvd is already out? i'm in the philippines. what is the title?

  • Comment removed

  • When I Play Drums In The Band/Quoir The Director Puts His Guitar Volume Way To High And You Can't Really Enjoy What You Really Call Music.

  • I feel ya'. Forward this to him. "With all due respect"

  • Hey Everyone, much love. Please check out a song I wrote and sung from Isaiah 53 in the Bible called "Healing from the Lord" its at myspace dottcomm/christopherkimura. I had to mess the spelling on dottcomm to post this . Christ bless, I hope the song touches your heart.

  • haha I get the whole "drummer freak out" thing, yet I don't understand it. The best worship days at my church seem to be when my friend, Jon, or my pastor play drums. Sometimes they add a little bongo, and it sounds great.

  • I tried to play in a worship band but I cannot play that kind of music. I really hate that kind of music. It's just about tastes and stuff.

I'm sick of that music. I have rock music in my blood.

  • who`s d drmmr? s dat lars ulrich of metallica?

  • This video is very very very helpful..

But it is sooo easy to forget about God while worshiping because we are so into music..

we have to only focus on GOD!!

  • I don't think so. I think your job as a WL is to help others focus on God...You must have your time with God before the worship and bring Him with you into the session. Then you can focus on the music and still be with God...it's His music afterall.

  • well, thank you for your comment.

but i think you totally misunderstood me.

after all, we ARE mostly using music as a tool to worship..

and sometimes.. we may be too concentrated on music...

so this video is only helpful for those who already keep God in mind..

but may cause more distractions to those who always try to "sound" good to people's ears.

  • Great! Thanks for uploading

  • i have that same snare

  • It's nice to see that the pressure reduces on one and everybody plays their part. Me as keyboardist of a worship team thought that I should play in the same register as the guitar (accompanying chords), but I don't have to. I can even rest sometimes ;-)

    Thanks! :)

  • that's beautiful

  • Aww. This guy is awesome!

  • Can anyone tell me where to get this DVD??

  • hey piknikie i actually have it I got it from Morningstar christian bookstore

  • Hello Comment sections

it looks like there are christians on this page. I could tell by the rude and judgmental comments. I guess its true friendly fire kills more.

Give paul a break. He is trying to encourage and up lift the Body of Christ. What are you guys doing besides "judging people worship" you guys are loosing the focus.

  • excuse me, but I was wondering if you were putting down Christians. You shouldn't put all Christians into one category because of a small group of people who decided to say their negative thoughts. And to anyone else who is judging Paul or RODG4130, go get your Bibles and read James 3. Then think about if God would be happy about what the heck you are saying about people or to people.

  • @lovelovechrist Dude dont strat throwing bible verses at sumone....no one is putting down no one...is talking bout when ur playing music how everyone should control they're instrument. But this guy wants to focus on us who play worship music wich is very diffrent from any other style cuz u dont play so agressively.

  • @lovelovechrist Take not criticisms as insults but as feedbacks to improve your skills

  • Man i am blessed knowing this stuff frm the one who knows best. thanks Paul I am encourage to share this to my band mate in our church. GOd bless u more!

  • Man, I think you didn't listen Paul Baloche albums. He plays really well, but this DVD is for beginners.

  • This is a praise and worship dvd, and Paul's "forte" is playing in a Praise and Worship Band that's why he doesn't need to play with more "technicality". It's like telling Clapton, SRV, or even Hendrix that they suck because they don't do tapping, or shredding on the fretboard...

  • Thank you, This is gonna help us at NationChangers Merthyr Tydfil Wales uk. Thanks

  • Very helpful for instrumentalists. What about the lead guitar? Where can I buy this DVD? Thanks Paul.

  • thanks i think this will really help us...God Bless

  • i think this is going to be a great help for many and lots of people. I mean it's a wonderful thing to comeback to see this video after storming into it three or more months ago and still find it fresh and helpfull.

  • this video was really a blessing for me

cause im starting a worship band and im the leader and i just dont know where to star cause the only one who knows music is me.. and i play guitar, drums, bass and keyboard but i have to teach everyone and is just hard for me.. this video show me how is a worship band..tnks

  • Step one get rid of the spirit and listen to me. Let's structure it so it fills seats and makes money.

  • Hi jinkx2608, I read your comment and I have a question for you. Are you saying the Holy Spirit is prevented from moving when musicians practice together? Or put another way, do you feel that the Holy Spirit and practice/good musicianship can't work together?

  • you obviously haven't been in a Pentecostal church...we play/sing good and YET the Spirit moves and we have church! you have to let the Spirit flow...and its flows when everyone is comfortable and like what they are doing and can focus on worshiping

  • i understand.. i suppose we always start trying to do everything and when others join, we have to them space and learn to work together. thanks paul.

  • This is so beneficial. Thanks for posting...you have the heart of David (1st for worship and 2nd to teach the next generation on excellence for the worship of our God). Thank you so much!

  • this is awesome. if you dont find this useful, please dont put negative comments.... there is so edification in doing that. God told us that our words are to impart grace to our hearers. IF one believer finds this useful,,, dont bag on it-- just take whats good and use it to glorify god, SIMPLE AS THAT. thanks for the video. GodBless!

  • People believe different things. Not all are true nor false. Different denominations in churches believe differently. Saying how your beliefs are better than other peoples and ridiculing others' beliefs is against God. Besides, examine what may or may not be wrong about your ideas before examining others' beliefs and searching for what's untruthful about it. "How can you remove the speck of dust from your brother's eye when you have plank in your own?"

  • Yes but reality is an absolute truth. If two people believe contradicting things, they can't both be right.

  • Yes they can. In their own ways.

Besides, the point remains, bagging on stuff is disheartening to the creator of the video, and disgraceful to God's tools of molding worship bands.

  • I agree about the negative comments. But if you believe God exists and I believe he doesn't, we can't both be right. One of us has to be wrong and the other right. Reality isn't different for everyone. If one person says 2+2=4 and the other says 2+2=5, one is wrong, one is right.

  • I agree with that. But it doesn't apply to everything.

For example, if one of these guys says, "This was not helpful at all" And the other says, "This was helpful!" They can both be right.

Helpful to one person, perhaps not to the other.

  • thank you for this I thought it was really good and simple to start learning new thing I found it really intresting keep going dudes god bless you.

  • you have not clue of what you are saying! this is a clear example for the Bad musicians that all they do is trashing songs by over playing and by the way is not about the songs is about GOD

  • i agree. ya having someone who is excited for god and can play a chord or two is good. but its far more than that. i find most church bands have a limited spectrum of musical knowledge and taste and is only limted to worship music which, after a while, i have found to be very inhibiting on skill building

  • Thanks for the great video. This workshop is really helping our group to meld. Every worship team should take a look at this. Thanks and I look forward to more of your postings.

  • useful info, i have played piano on a couple worship teams, and it is suprising how many people don't know about this stuff, or forget it when they get into their own part. I am a failure of this

  • This really made me realize that it's not so hard to make great worship. It thought me couple of techniques~ thx

  • Greatzz..i really really lik tis..

  • Wow...wonderful!!

  • Thank You Brother Paul & Lead Worship for posting this video!

  • Thanks for this very helpful video!!!...

  • JOhnnychampion, i would have to disagree with you in some points.

Firstly, Jesus has already accepted us all, be it whether we are sinners or whther we've accepted Him. He gave His only Son to die for us, so He have already forgiven us all.

Remember the story when Jesus sat with the sinners and tax gatherers.

    Thanks and God bless.

    priz

  • Sorry, that's not true. God has NOT forgiven everybody. If He did, then why doesn't everybody goes to heaven? People go to hell for one reason: that they have sinned: all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. It's only by God's mercy that anybody is saved. God's forgiveness for everybody is not a Biblical idea.

  • People NEVER go to hell because they sinned, they are lost because of their unbelief in God's grace willing to save them. As the Bible says: we all have sinned... but are saved by God's mercy if exepting it

  • If that were true, then what about the good Jew? What they say - that it's unfair of God to only save people who believe in Him - would be true. What then about the poor native in Africa? No, the main reason people go to Hell is that they have sinned. Believe will save you from Hell, but it's not what causes you to go there in the first place. John 3:18: "whoever does not believe stands condemned already." Believing would save him, but not believing is not the cause of him going to hell.

  • Sorry, can't agree with that. I have sinned in my life, but my faith has saved me. I can only speak for myself... As for people who have never heard about grace, I don't know, but I know God is merciful and just

  • Question: What is sin?

  • to gbisaga:

    God did forgive everybody!

why doesn't everybody go to heaven??

because people don't accept Jesus as their saviour.

    Its a GIFT of salvation..

and you can be saved by simply...taking the gift..

    but many choose not to.

  • We must have broken hearts for the lost and need to try to understand them and hear them instead of trying to force them to understand us as soon as we meet them. We have got to stick by their side at all times and do life with them as we would our church family. Friendships are necessary whether they are online or in person. We have got to love people from the first conversation to the last. Always

  • Wow! JOHNNYCHAMPION, these are some really deep comments you've made here. They sound so clear. They can help me in talking to my friends about God. I thank the Lord God for your life! He has brought you here for a good cause. [*_^]

  • I'm not trying to embarrass anyone by any means with what I have to say I just want people to understand.

  • Coming at someone like they are the bad guy will offend them. Comments like "who are you to say such filth, let me tell you something, I was like you once in darkness but came to know that God who cares for you and I and am a Christian today" will run a non Christian off. They probably won't respond well to that and feel like you are pointing your finger at them.

  • For all those who responded to miakirshner123 the way they did.. you need to learn to build a friendship with someone like that before you come at them with the gospel. Two questions: How did that person respond to what you had to say to them? Do you feel you made any sort of connection with that person in any way?

  • The greater the gap between our sinfulness and God's holiness, the greater the cross becomes. And the greater the cross becomes, the greater the glory of God becomes. In the death of Jesus we see the glory of God, as his justice towards sin and love towards man are reconciled. The result is a man now freed to glorify and love God.

  • This gospel is God-centered because in the end, God receives the glory in saving us and we receive the joy in being saved. This gospel begins with God and ends with God. From beginning to end it is about the glory of God. It calls us to a proper view of God's holiness and a proper view of our sinfulness.

  • You ask to be accepted, you do no accepting. He and only He can accept you.

  • (I see I am more flawed and sinful than I ever dared believe, but that I am even more loved and accepted than I ever dared hoped. I turn from my old life of living for myself. I have nothing in my record to merit your approval, but I now rest in what Jesus did and ask to be accepted into God's family for his sake.)

  • Soulfire898989 you cannot accept Jesus into your heart.. Jesus accepts you.

I always hear of people being told to pray and ask Jesus into their heart and that is not a God-centered gospel that is a self-centered gospel which is not the gospel. The only prayer we should be praying is something like this...

  • awesome!!!!! thanks for uploading...it really blesses my heart and ive learnt soooo much!

  • These DVDS are great! Once we started implementing these ideas at our church, our worship was transformed. They are truly beneficial, and I would recommend them to anyone wanting to improve. Check out leadworship'com if you're interested!

  • good series, thanks for sharing

  • WOW! That was so cool! Come check out ssome of my videos! Thx! Subscribe if you like!

  • Praise God for these instructional videos! and miakirshner123 there is a God, and he gave his only son for you, and his name is Jesus and if you'd accept him in your heart he'd changes your heart of stone!

  • miakirshner123: who are you to say such filth, let me tell you something, I was like you once in darkness but came to know that God who cares for you and I and am a christian today, all I can say is that God loves you and may he bring you to him in His own time. bless you

  • well you took the time to watch it didnt you?

    it must have interested you

  • Wow.....great sounding guitar!!!

  • God bless this man, such simple and straight to the point

    awesome, thanks

  • question what do you do if you have 3 guitarists,(acoustic, rhythm, lead) no keyboard player a drummer and a bass

    does it still work

    xx

  • simply amazing thanks for this

  • Excellent stuff! Well done Paul... we enjoy playing your songs. Keep up the good work.

  • I lead a worship band. and most of what he's saying in both vids we were doing. but now i realize how important it is.

  • We had the privilege of having Paul come and lead worship at our church recently. I can tell you this guy is always teaching and he's great at it. He blessed our worship team by allowing us to play with him. And just as he appears in this video, he comes across in person. He's a kind and gentle spirit. His knowledge base is vast. I highly recommend any/all his teaching tools, especially his book "God Songs." It's a must-have for any worship leader.

  • frikkin awesome

  • What's the second chord in his chord progression?

  • E/G# 4x4400 or 4x2400 (there are probably more ways to play it)

  • SIR PAUL the Band
