if you see the tab in the front that keeps the follower down on the old one its longer. I bought some new P Mags and I'm dissapionted that one of the mags broke (that small follower stop on the upper interior) because it fell on the carpet. magpul fail:(
He said ( i dont think theyr makin em with windows) !! These guys make kick ass gear reviews!! I have sum gen2z with and w/o windows! Hes usually pertty damn on point wit hiz reviews! Tha dustcover can also b used ta extract rounds when ur unloadin ur pmag!! Check my vids , dropa comment!
Yea tha gen2z do cum wit windowz, i have sum with an w/o!! He actually said ( i dont think there makin tha new ones with windows) ! These dudes make killer gear review vidz!! Juza minor mistake!! Btw, tha dustcover can b used as a shell extracter 4 unloadin ur magz too
Yea my gen2z have windowz!! No biggy , he actually said, ( i dont think there makin em wit windowz) ! These guyz make killer gear reviewz!! Juza minor mistake!!
You are wrong about new mags not having windows. I have a mag marked with the circular date code and "09". three spaces on the side of the mag, with a window... September 09.
@AR15channel I think the purpose of the covers is not for mission purposes but for storage. The original M16 mags were "disposable", later not so much but were not designed to be stored loaded. Weak points being feed lips (still are) and springs. Springs have improved but the feed lips are simply a weak point by unintentional design. Magpul gets around the storage issue with the covers.
Again, you wouldn't go into the field with the covers on.
When I hit the street I never have my covers on my mags. Tacticaly it slows you down in a fire fight and I don't want straps, buckles, snaps or tops to slow me down becuase it will cost me my life. I put the snap cover on when my shift is over to keep pressure off the feed lips. Also the old PMags you can get ranger plates for as well.
The loaded magazine puts pressure on the rounds, the rounds exert that pressure on the lips.. the cover moves that pressure to the front and back lugs...
@GunWebsites and keeps out the dust. are these feed covers a new feature, because i have 4 dark earth pmags i bought a couple years back and they didn't come with those? or is it because i bought them through a store and not online?
depends on how many mags you have in supply. I know guys with hundreds of mags.
why not keep pressure off the lips and dirt out at the same time. Takes a moment to snap them off as you move them from a pack / bag to chest rig / in use
@GunWebsites My Dad went through Vietnam and said he never needed dust covers on his mags. He was too busy shooting. He also didn't have any problems with jamming with his M16. He said he only used the 20 rounders because at the time the 30 rounders were not so great.
Vietnam was different homeboy.... No dust in the jungle.... No sand in the jungle.... Go to Iraq where its sandy all day everyday. Go to Iraq where its so sandy youll find sand in your ass, you wont know how it got there but its there. The point is, in sandy environments dust covers can save your life. You get a little sand in a mag it can cause a jam. You get a little sand mixed with a liquid in a mag, it WILL jam. Both are very undesirable when you are getting shot at.
Im new to AR15s (just bought one 3 days ago) so I need to ask a newbie question. Are there any advantages or disadvantages between the polymer PMAGS and the regular metallic AR15 magazines? Does it all come down to personal preference?
I tried uploading a video response, but I dont think it will let me so here is the video if your interested (Magpul Video Response to "AR15 Parts - PMAG Overview")

I really don't see the need in the windows. I can feel the weight difference and it saves me a few bucks. Just my 2 cents
navy4life5 1 year ago
I think they should have kept the windows, in combat I'd appreciate knowing if I have 1 shot left, or 15.

mweymiller142 1 year ago
@mweymiller142 yah but they are very expensive for legal civilian transfer around 15000 to 20000 dollars. Yeah you read that right

thanks for the feedback from someone who uses the covers

@GunWebsites Anytime I can be of help I will try to be such.

You can run these mags over with a truck so I doubt having them in a pack would damage the feed lips.

Do people really roll around in a combat zone with a cover on a magazine? WOW. I shoot my rifles so much I doubt any dust would get in there.

well then.. don't put them on.. free country and all that
GunWebsites 2 years ago
@GunWebsites Would you have them on during a combat mission? It would take extra seconds to get the covers off.

Pmags feed better than the standard GI mags. The pmags are also very durable, and can handle alot

Speed00007 2 years ago
I suppose it is just a preference, but I much prefer the PMAGs to any metal mag I've used over the years
All our testing shows the PMAGs work better, last longer and take a lot more abuse
