There are some advantages to table-top computing, not limited to the following:

1. Educators and students don't have to keep and store materials. 2. The application can be programmed to adapt to the learner's interactions and needs. 3. Applications can track data regarding learning outcomes, errors,interactions,and progress over time. 4.Applications can support and guide cooperative learning activities among pairs and small groups of students.

I just posted a video response to this post that gets a little deeper into the technology and the learning application of these apps.

The video speaks to some of Lynn's points, but doesn't cover the computer's ability to adapt and track the learning. That's also a great advantage.

Another thing to note is that with Microsoft Surface's vision system, you can use simple cubes, letters and other objects that can interact with the computer to tailor learning to the interaction and track results.
