  • Saw them live...all I have to say.

  • Yes !! For sure some of the best from the good ol' 90's !!!

  • not sure i like this song. i like the band though

  • best canadian band ever!! sorry rush :)

  • yery good choice of tunes ,thanks

  • rolls her eyes, her beautiful eyes

  • best song ever .. glad i saw them live at least once

  • I think i like the video version better.Where can i get that?

  • still one of my favourite songs of all time.

  • Halifax cats...

    Good stuff...

    Ty 1mich

  • @dfbhcf wow canadian songs suck then

  • I hardly remember grade school. She rolled her eyes, she was 20 years younger than me. I felt like an Ass. but she was one too. she drove while I passed the time.

  • I love this song.

  • haha you know this is canadian when they reference the L.C. sick song.

  • **her beautiful arse

  • Sloan thats my name

  • Very weird lyrics...good tune, but I'm 12 and I've written better lyrics

  • @Haloplayer20 try...

  • @telex1 what do you mean "try"?

  • @Haloplayer20 He means try to write better lyrics... if you think these lyrics aren't very good, you just aren't getting it.

  • Did these guys smoke a lot of weed by any chance? Sounds awesome.

  • opening guitar: chug, chug, chug, chug....peter griffin voice: yeeeeeaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhh

  • actually, underwhelmed is a word... but perhaps its Sloan that introduced it

  • i just asked myself, why didnt sloan become more known, because this is just awsome there was a few sloan tracks i liked seen this just now.. within the first 10 seconds i knew this is going to be one of my new favorite tracks, oh ya i mean those that have skill talent and a deeper message of truth, the pop industry caters to production and consumtion, all lies and bs, well in their eyes peace doesnt sell.. charlie sheen gary busey anyway all im sayin, pop not truth, truth sometimes not popular

  • Great tune, great lyrics. Halifax around 1991 was a blast. Jale came out of the same mix, but they are almost forgotten, undeservedly.

  • @wmacisaac Yeah, talk about how you knew them back in the day......lame

  • The concept of this song (minus the 'dont smoke and drink' part) is the theme to my life. I am constantly not impressed. But this song rocks.

  • Is there a song that rocks more than this one does?

  • Th beginning sounds so much like Black Sabbath, right?

  • I saw Sloan live in concert when they were just starting out. They were opening up

    for The Rolling Stones.

  • I told her that

    I don't smoke or drink

She told me to loosen up

On her way to the L.C.

  • oh man, classic!

  • I remember watching Sloan perform free at an A&B sound location. Still love this group!

  • Haha... my name is Sloan

  • someone please make a karaoke vid for this song...!

  • miss these guys

  • I've always loved sloan, and have always claimed the most underappreciated Canadian band or band. always enjoy a great Sloan lick!

  • this is the greatest pop/rock song ever written by a canadian group, even if the rest of sloans catalogue isn't as good as this (how could it be?)

tragically hip and finger eleven may be better bands overall, but they have never written a song better than underwhelmed

  • Awesome. Awesome.

    Just awesome.

But "Take it in" is not on here :(

  • Her spelling's atrocious!

  • OH 2 B YOUNG AGAIN , SIGH LOL

  • Such a wicked song. I can't believe I've just heard it now.

  • i remember going to college from 91 - 93. fuckin best time for music. Nowdays is lady gaga and beeber.

  • @420Honey Definitely the best time, til Kurt Blew his head off. Sloan, all the sonic unyon bands. I've been trying to find stuff from Grasshopper forever but no one has it. I wanna go to Neptune!

  • @420Honey aw, c'mon, nobody in college listens to Justin Beiber.

  • @420Honey

Get a life, Gramps. Nobody is interested in the back in the day musings of a pre-maturely old sadster.

  • @Shirokinukatsukami - Shut yer hole jr. You wouldn't know shit from good chocolate.

  • @420Honey word. the future is a scary place

  • @420Honey We have Plants and Animals, Arkells, Matt Mays and Sufjan Stevens. All generations have good music!....except the 80's

  • @Kwalin11 The Clash, Talking Heads, The Cure there may not be a lot but enough to give their generation something. All generations have good music.

  • @Kwalin11 No good music in the 80s? Sonic youth, Jesus and Mary Chain, Pere Ubu, Black Flag, The circle jerks, Bauhaus, PIL, the Pixies, The Cramps, Jane's Addiction, early REM and Chili Peppers, The Smiths...I guess you just totally missed the boat.

  • @420Honey shut up, it's just harder to find good music! they're like tiny diamonds in mountains of sh**!

  • @420Honey The only exposure I have to him is people on youtube. Every other word in youtube comments is "Bieber". I saw a music video of his once in a bowling alley about 5 years ago, aside from that I don't know anything about him beyond his helmet hair that's on the cover of every magazine all the time, so please, just let me keep him out of mind by restraining yourself from gabbing about him on youtube videos that I watch. I'm done now.

  • @koflan lol 5 years ago bieber was in a diaper even I knew that and i fucking hate the kid

  • @420Honey not for me its not, thats junky music imo, music from the 70's to 90's rocked, and still do

  • @sh9683 - Thats funny. Let's see the 60's was about LSD and 'grass'. As for junkie music, ask Keith Richards about the 70's... In the 80's everyone did coke, and in the 90's it morphed into heroin. Drugs are cicular in music and no genre is any different than any other.

  • @420Honey but it also had more music about peace positive lyrics and such, 90's is when things started to get bad both musically and lyrically yeah there still was many awesome bands but music started getting iffy then and now its just turned into junk music if we follow the pop scene at least

  • @sh9683 - The Grateful Dead were the #1 touring band from 91-95. All they did was play to the peace crowd and promote peaceful living. Spin Doctors, Phish.... peace...

  • @420Honey like i said there was a lot of good bands in the 90's but it had its fair share of bad music and influences just like the previous decades,

  • @420Honey So not true, lol

  • Comment removed

  • @TVScio - Im noting hating the kid... the music sucks.

  • @420Honey im so fucking jealous man, i was born in 1991 and im in university now i get to listen to shitty ass dubstep. I hope you enjoyed the chilli peppers, early greenday and nirvana in your day

  • @slickskillsman - Yeah it was a rush. I saw Nirvana in MTL during the Bleach tour, Smashing Pumkins at the Metropolis in MTL for siamese dream, rage on the indie stage in T.O during the first Lolaplalooza, saw the Garden during badmotorfinger, Pearl Jam during their ten tour. One of the best shows of my life was the Aug 93 CNE show in Toronto with Blues Traveller Soundgarden Pearl Jam and Neil Young with booker T and the MGs backing him up. Everyone up on stage at the end of the night..

  • @420Honey i think the 90's period was the best time for music. you know if you we're a teen throughout the 90's.

unfortunately, i'm a teen through the 00's and want to rip out every singer's vocal chords now a days.

  • @420Honey it's a sad state of affairs fer sher

  • Second most popular rock song in Canada. Wouldn't really fit if it was the first now, would it?

  • @mrjeschultz don't want to deal with "who is sloan" question.

but if it's in second and that question is asked it could be blamed on the ignorance of that person...

  • @bobdeep1 Yeah, I know. I just figured I would nitpick because I was bored and had nothing else better to do.

  • I just noticed an interesting irony: the song's protagonist often corrects his friend's faulty grammar and spelling, but the lyric "We were talking about people/That eat meat" contains improper grammar. "That" is a restrictive clause that refers to nouns other than human beings. "Who" is the proper restrictive clause to use in that context.

  • @PiEqualsAwesome No shit!

  • @PiEqualsAwesome

    'mazin'

  • but not in hers

  • sorry but the lyrics for this are cheezy :P. good instrumental

  • @snoplau Cheesy how?

  • @Soupstorm Doesnt sound like it would be in a song, Kinda like he's having a conversation with himself. I dunno maybe it's just me

  • @snoplau I know what you mean. I cracked a little grin when I first heard this song for that reason. I think the beginning is the cheesiest, but still a good song

  • fuckin awesome song:)

  • uhhh......hum54pie, it was a mega hit. super duper even ;-|

  • How was this song not a MEGA HIT? Great lyrics ,great beat, great song PEROID!

  • @halifaxguy1234 peppermint!!!!

  • I love the lyrics to this song, but does anybody know what he means when he says "on her way to the L.C." ?

  • liq

  • @brandonsaccount licquor commision,,,, im from nova scotia so the likker stores here are call the nslc for nova scotia LIquor Commision ,,, not Liquor Control Board of Canada haha

  • wow. I remember reading about this band in 'sassy' magazine. anybody remember 'sassy'?

  • brilliant track!

  • I owe some hearing loss to this song we had it cranked so loud my mirror cracked on my car door!

  • @redoctoberff - Thanks! Very cool.

  • Just learned that Sloan does the music intro for CBC's The Hour with George Strombo.

  • her beautiful "R"s

  • lol dumbass obviously this is for people who want to listen to the song without downloading it and don't care abuot the picture

  • I think the best line of this song is "Her spelling's atrocious".

  • YES!!!!

  • It's ridiculous that this band is SO underrated in america! These guys could easily be massive in the states if they got the marketing... I think these guys, oasis, jet, the vines, the strokes, franz ferdinand, kings of leon, and muse should do a festival... now that would be SICK!

  • sry forgot the bravery too, and modest mouse

  • best comment on youtube.

  • it would be even better if KOL didn't show and Radiohead played in their place.

  • if they had the marketing and fame they wouldnt be the same,

  • Are the Vines still a band? I haven't heard a word about them since like 2004

  • @tinyfolk same here

  • neither have i, i miss them :( they need a new album asap.

  • This version is more polished than the one they played at house parties before they got signed...NSCAD rocked.

  • awesome song

  • Damn, nobody has a way with using unusual stories to make a bigger point than Chris from Sloan. So freakin' good!

  • Wow, these lyrics are fucking ingenious.

  • @Qazic12 I would concur.

  • @Qazic12 as is Sloan.

  • Man this brings back memories. Being a quebecer I went to a summer language program in Halifax for 5 weeks in 1996. I got to see them there. I bought the album at some indie music store. Good times at Point Pleasant Park, keeping beer cold in the ocean, hitting on hot chicks from all around the world... :)

  • One of the most underrated bands ever this is an absolute classic amazing lyrics and guitar playing.

  • well I don't see what's special about the guitar playing personally

  • Anybody know where I can find the music video for this song? I remember seeing it on MuchMusic ages ago.

  • Love these guys, I was born where the started out x).

  • This song - along with "Canonball" by the Breeders and Nirvana - was the reason why I welcomed the 90ies.

  • Sloan is such a great band. Why are people even mentioning that they're Canadian as if its something to point out. Canada has tons of great musicians.

  • -Never thought an American band could write such an intelligent song.

    -they are Canadians

    -That explains.

guess that's why it always gets mentioned ;-)

  • I think Canucks just like to claim their own ;)

  • I TOLD HER AFFECTION HAD TWO F's

ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU'RE DEALING WITH FUCKING ME!

  • best rock song of the nineties. As simple as that.

  • Wow this song takes me back, my friends and used to play it constantly driving around downtown Halifax before we were old enough to get into the bars.
