does anyone know where i can find chords/tabs for this song? I've searched everywhere and found nothing. I could try to figure this out by ear but i feel like he's not in standard tuning... it would be much appreciated if someone helped me out with this, thanks.
@UnholyMan122 sweetadeline (dot) net will have all your tabs, bro.
Some of them might be inaccurate, just experiment with what they give you.
All I can tell you is this is in standard D tuning, starts on an Emaj9 (relative to the tuning) then I think G, A, and then C. Can't really remember though, check the site.
@yourdogsmusic Let's pray he wouldn't ! I think biopic's the worst, cheesiest movie genre. We've already got Elliott's beautiful songs to listen to, and he obviously wrote them to escape his life. To me it's just a way to make easy money on an artist's back while some fine actor embarrasses himself.
I wasn't able to get New Moon until this past Christmas. Most of the songs I had heard, but it was wonderful to have better recordings of them. This was one of a few I hadn't heard, however, and it is now among my most beloved ES songs. The chorus is so haunting. It's like floating, and then coming back down for the next verse. Only to lift me up again. Beautiful.
@cyrussink I think Elliott's music is heavily influenced by classical music; he was an accomplished classical pianist, by the looks of it. Check out the video of him playing some Rachmaninoff.
C'est une bonne chanson d'elliott smith. J'ai une version différente qui est presque pareille mais ou on entend parfois 2 vois qui disent des choses différente comme au refrin ca dit a droite go by et a gauche two timed
I can't believe he just scrapped songs like this. I will seriously never get over his genius.

What an asshole. Just jokin'. I often wish he had more happy thing to sing about...even though I'd probably enjoy his music less. Happiness is good.

@StephenAndrew777 If you think about it, his music was probably the therapy keeping him alive.
That, and, people say write about things you know most, and for Elliott, I guess that was his pain.

Go ahead, act. It's not like you can't. You can go ahead and play any role you want.
Go by...

You live up in your head, scared of every little noise
Someone's always breaking in accidentally using nothing but their voice.
*Shakes head* Seriously, how could he hit the nail on the head with every lyric? Only Elliott...

I googled "torment saint" and found a picture of "The Torment of St. Anthony"
The painting looks pretty Elliott-ish to me. Maybe that's what he was alluding to.

i always wanted to know what motivated him to write this song. or what it's exactly about .

his voice's got this innate magnetic force drawing me in. i can't really explain it. it sounds fragile but it's so powerful at the same time.

@LukasXO Think Depp would except the role if there was a Smith Biopic film?

is it just me, or is it the later you go into his music, that some hooks sound like other songs he wrote?
eazyduzitjacob 2 years ago
@eazyduzitjacob To an extent, yes. That's true of virtually any musician. Even classical composers and movie score composers. Look at John Williams.

I post that and then look down and see that someone else has said it "floats like clouds." That's such a fitting analogy.
