It all depends on the software whether it can make use of it or not... back in the day it was all about GHz. Now its about cores. Tough shit is - the software doesnt keep up. At least most of the software that common folks are using nowadays (brwosers, os, games, freeware)
Aw shit I read @christoiMc too late. No shit the architecture is balls. Who in the consumer market needs 8 cores right now especially when they get outperformed by quadcores xD FAIL!
Lets talk about money and computers: I have a friend that drives Mustang GT500, has his own house in elite complex, over 200 euro poket money for clubs and fuel every day, hot girl friend and he ows computer with Athlon XP. Thats a rich person not the one with Core i7.
Lets talk about temperatures now: I own old AMD 7750BE 2,7Ghz, on Win7 64bit Desktop use 21C temp ( same as in my room ) in gaming goes to 38C with air cooling.
Lets talk about Copy's: Intel copy 64 bit CPU's from AMD, Intel Copy dual-cores from AMD, Intel copy's HT, Intel makes Turbo on the AMD's Cool&Quite architecture..... Intels fails at graphics, chipsets, audio. Intel makes i5 and i7 and you guys shit your asses. Pathetic you are. I still remember the time when a Sempron was owning Pentium 4! Srs company Intel is!
@f1r31c3r1 It's not a software optimization error, but an issue with the entire architecture. Very few programs utilize more than 4 cores. Also, Intel CPU's with a similar price range are equal or better.
Don't compare sever CPU's and consumer CPU's, they are designed differently. Opterons and Xeons are made for number crunching and such, stable 24/7, fast and reliable. I have no idea about your rambling of these added costs of Intel.
Check out the memory performance on these chips when utilized through the linux kernel oh boy it makes your nipples tingle its rawr and affordable. Intel is not affordable! Who cares if it sounds like a Hoover under the desk it gets the job done three fold. Need your own power station mind you as a compute box is at tdp most of the time thats 500watts per dual socket board a safe 1400w for 4p well worth it though
These are far superior chips used in the correct environment compared to intel. Core I7 is still best for gaming but for HPC these chips work great out the box with no additional licensing costs for special compilers. The GNUC compiler can utilize this tech at no additional cost now that rips intel a new ass hole lol. Heat is a biggy but put a turbo cooler on them and boy you got a linux box and a half now thats what HPC really wants not licenses and crappy secretive Intel bull**
@5abhishekdaniel yeah, you are a real noob, without money. My Intel Core i5 (Quad Core) is as fast as a 6 core from AMD, and the Turbo Boost Technology is stolen by Intel. Intel is the future for gamer, invest in Intel!
But i have a AMD Radeon HD 6870 GPU, that is great ^^
AMD cpu´s are to hot, by using, for example : Intel Pentium Notebook CPU by Gaming : 64°C. AMD Athlon Notebook CPU by Gaming : 88°C. It´s to hot, Intel is the best.
@Amuffin456 Intel's boost completely turns off idle cores and pumps up the frequency of the cores that are being used. While AMD's boost turns down the frequency of idle cores and also increases the frequency of the other active cores. It doesn't totally turn it off. So yea not a total copy
