  • I miss him. Listening to this brings tears to my eyes. What great memories. I wish Jim were still around; but we do have his son, A.J.

  • Jim Croce, Gordon Lightfoot, Harry Chapin, Al Stewart.....70's singer/songwriters were sooooooooooooooo good!

  • Wow, what a great man he was. long live jim croce, R.I.P! :'(

  • I really love this song (:

  • the acustic sound so beautiful

  • never fly a musician

  • Isn't this the way that music SHOULD go?

  • I'm so thankful to my parents for introducing me to this type of music when I was a child

  • remembering my high school days.......

  • Jim Croce 's music lives on. Blast from the distant past. By their fruits you will know them.

  • @gaarasixteen8s If only we had handy thumbs up markers for them, eh?

  • Still brings a tear. Left us way too soon ...

  • south river class of 75...a better time...

  • such a great singer/songwriter,and so prolific in 1972/3 what could have jim achieved had he not died in the 1973 plane crash..

  • i love this song

  • 9 people are musically challenged

  • Learning this song. Lol got stuck 10 seconds in. Lol

  • He had a short life. But, he had good life. He did good things for people with his music and I honestly think he was here on earth just for that reason. When it is your time...it is your time. So love your life.

  • What a great song...classic

  • What a beautiful voice :)

  • I always like Jim Croce and his style. He was your average singer but sang from his heart and soul on the sad songs but could notch it up and have fun singing Leroy Brown etc.Like many entertainers he died to soon.

  • "I think about the love that I thought would save me" also to quote the song.. So many cool little lines in this song.

  • This song, which I just for the first time heard today on the radio, reminds me of a cold walk through the park in winter. It's beauty almost comes from it's sadness that does not overwhelm you. It reminds me of walking along side the frozen lake and through the barend trees while my toes chill.

  • he goooooooooooooooooooooooooooooood!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I like this song

  • 7 people couldn't connect to the operator.

  • He looks kinda like Mario...

  • @0RaysAccount0 No, Mario kinda looks like Jim. Big difference. Jim was here on earth first, and was real.

  • shes living IN LA.. WITH MY BEST OLD EX FRIEND RAY.. GUYYY SHE SAID, SHE KNEW WELL and SOMETIMES HATED

  • @joeylain "Isn't that they way they say that it goes?" to quote the song.

  • @Retrofanatic10 Patience.........

  • Beautiful.

That's all I can say about this song.

  • Who hasn't had their hearts broken? Well this is the song for us broken-hearted people! Very good song! Sorry that Jim died before his time!

  • Ah, This song has soothed my aching soul many times..

  • It just wasnt real ...but thats not the way if feels :)

  • way to young to go

  • one of my favorite songs of all time.

  • Folk acoustic at its best!!

  • Ima call 411 and put this song on blllaaassstttt

  • Good old days :]

  • OPERATOR.... oh lets's forget about this call.... there's no one there ..... I REALLY Wanted to TALK TO. Thank you... for your time... Ah you've been so much more than KIND. You can keep the dime.

  • love the acoustic guitar. Reminds me of being a kid fishing with my dad up at the cottage. Weird the way songs from your childhood stick with you and bring back some great memories

  • Man , I can't wait to be a father! I love this song! ^_^

  • Last night I listened to this song. Something came over me , like an emotional premonition. I was thinking about the day me and my wife have a child , and how beautiful he would be. Thinking of wonderful that day would be. It's such a beautiful song , I can't help but be melancholy and hopeful everytime I hear it. Jim puts so much heartfelt feeling in his voice , especially at 2:56 . I can't wait to be a father btw , and these thoughts give me such joy! ^_^

  • good die young

  • beautiful voice. a gem of a song.

  • Oh i had this on an old tape... played it over and over again... so beautiful

  • that's not the way it feels . yup that's not the way it feels

  • I wonder if this song would be possible in a world with cell phones...

  • @jsl1211 cell phones suck. ever heard a great song about a cell phone? oh no.

  • @discomadame Challenge accepted, haha...nah, I could never make anything great about that.

  • no matter what kind of day I'm having, this song makes me feel like im dancing with a beautiful girl on a pristine afternoon in the summer of 1971

  • love this song

  • 3 people doesn't know what is an operator...

  • I saw Garth Brooks sing this song last Friday night live and my god, it reminded me what great music this man created! It is amazing to think of what he could of done if not for his early death. It is also sad to think that in todays looks driven culture this talent would never be seen due to the fact he wasnt hot to look at.

  • @smoochie2ya Isn't that sad? Talent because of looks instead of the soul in their voice, not to say there aren't some artists out there today that could do without that but it's what sells I guess. It's all in the packaging these days.

  • A song of attraction and loss, of love and heartbroking, of life in it's pure sense!

    Great singer!

  • The kind of people who get on here to dislike stuff like this are the kind of people everybody dislikes.

  • @Gaarasixteen8s who cares why worry about it. is everyone supposed to like everything...

  • @Gaarasixteen8s i agree...

  • @Gaarasixteen8s you got that right

  • Amazing, Classic!!!!

  • i love my mom

  • I think that most men has wanted to do that for someone in their past

  • If she's reading this...I made it out okay. Be well.

  • Perhaps the best male voice that could sing love ballads outside of Lobo

  • She living in L.A....with my best old ex friend Ray..LOL

  • I have this on my I pod touch and whenever this song comes on I sing along...my dog thinks I'm crazy...lol...I was lucky enough to hear this when it first came out...and have loved it ever since...the words kinda ring true for me...sad but true

  • An all american classic

  • One of my favore songs of all time... Without a doubt.. I HOPE HE KNOWS WE'RE ENJOYING WITH MUSIC...

    THANKS JIM

  • HE DIED WAY TOO YOUNG

  • @goreds03 I agree - but at least he never knew decline into obscurity.....

  • @goreds03 The best always do, worries me cause i've been alive far too long to be anything of importance.

  • 2 People missed the call.

  • The heck with Autotune, machines playing songs, fake music and screaming into a mic. I love my oldies to death.

  • The good die young. 5 out of 5 stars.

  • im only 27,..but i really love to hear the music from the 70's up to early 90's,for me,they are composed and sung to lasts...a 2-thumbs up to jim croce...

  • @iw32 Hey try to keep your spirits up. I was kinda down not too long ago and with the help of one of my good friends and some great music i pulled out of it. Just dont give up.

  • @jessig68 Thank you very much! :-)

  • I'm thirteen and I LOVE THIS SONG.Thanks dad. :P

  • @knickatnight you are so right those authors are so emotionally inspiring to the young at heart

  • Takes me back for sure! Jim Croce, Harry Chapin, Cat Stevens and (don't laugh) Neil Diamond wrote the soundtrack to my and my friends' misspent youth. True artists who could make you feel their words. They somehow tapped into the emotional truths that we all experience.

  • I listen to Jim Croce everyday nowadays. His songs help me go through some very difficult times.

  • @iw32 Keep your chin up, and one day at a time. :-)

  • @DHS11999 Thank you,You are very kind!

  • over come the blow

  • only a handful of people on this earth have the ability to make music that never gets old, jim was one of them

  • I'm 18 and I absolutely love his songs!! :D

  • 573 likes and one dislike? thats messed up

  • @bbrb781 Look on the bright side 573 likes & 1 dislike is so much better than 1 like & 573 dislikes. Eh?!

  • you can feel his pain

  • One person couldn't read the number on the matchbook.

  • i just think how much he could have done in the music industry if he hadnt met his untimely death.

  • Nothing compares - RIP JC - the 70's are still alive because of you...Much Peace...

  • My Daddy use to play his songs all the time when when i was younger. I loved listening to them.

  • I love this song

  • Jim Croce was just 30 years of age (the exact same age of Patsy Cline when she too was killed in an airplane crash) when he died in a small commercial airplane accident as the aircraft was attempting to take off. No matter the circumstances, no one should die after just 30 years on this earth. Jim Croce's music, and lyrics, were so enjoyable ~ perhaps in another place, and time, we can all be reunited with Jim and his talents.

  • no... ^^ don't think of the music they could have made...think of how much they could have helped with our new generations of children. If they had not died...^^ it is not a mournful passing...but they would not have been lost so easily for current youth, even if they had not come up with more wonderful music. not saying that they would not have made alot more great music just that they would have been more memorable if they has the chance to help the parents influence the young just a bit mor

  • I am cryin'

  • This song makes me sad.....

  • man, just think what more wonderful music him and maury could have made if they didn't die that day...

  • MAGNIFICA INTERPRETACION , VOZ MUSICA Y SENTIMIENTO, QUE EN PAZ DESCANSE,

  • You notice great musicians die in plane crashes? Buddy Holly. John Denver. And last but not least, Jim! Rest in peace, we miss you.

  • @CaptainHurpDurp and Stevie Ray Vaughn! he died in a helicopter crash. Eric Clapton was supposed to be in his seat but SRV had a concert in another city so eric clapton let him take the helicopter and it crashed and he died. RIP all the greatest musicians

  • @CaptainHurpDurp Dont forget Stevie Ray Vaughn! There is a reason im scared of plane travel....

  • YESSS i haven't heard this song in a decade, was looking for it on a whim and found this... thank you :3

  • awwww someone missed the like button!!!!

  • @bearteeth8 What a shame, I love this song.

  • Jim Croce has such a easy-listening vibe to him, I just love it. It's such a shame he died when he did... I would have loved to see what else he would've created.

  • beautiful, simply beautiful.

  • without loss and heartbreak .few great lyrics would be written .

  • Is this the original studio version?

  • Everytime I hear this song, I think of A Night at The Roxbury. The operator that Doug talks to all the time. Ha.

  • I read that Pavement stole the melody for Trigger Cut from this song. There is one part, the "I've learned to take it well" part, that sounds just like the "I got a trigger cut" part on the Pavement song, but I wouldn't call it a rip off overall. Love that song, like this one too.

  • That is some insane acoustic guitar playing. Very awesome.

  • Happy Birthday Jim ! You would have been 68 today Jan 10th.

  • This song makes me think about Bristol... WHY DOES EVERY SONG MAKE ME THINK ABOUT BRISTOL!?! I miss my friends far too much... And worst of all, I miss Emily...
