He had a short life. But, he had good life. He did good things for people with his music and I honestly think he was here on earth just for that reason. When it is your time...it is your time. So love your life.
I always like Jim Croce and his style. He was your average singer but sang from his heart and soul on the sad songs but could notch it up and have fun singing Leroy Brown etc.Like many entertainers he died to soon.
This song, which I just for the first time heard today on the radio, reminds me of a cold walk through the park in winter. It's beauty almost comes from it's sadness that does not overwhelm you. It reminds me of walking along side the frozen lake and through the barend trees while my toes chill.
OPERATOR.... oh lets's forget about this call.... there's no one there ..... I REALLY Wanted to TALK TO. Thank you... for your time... Ah you've been so much more than KIND. You can keep the dime.
love the acoustic guitar. Reminds me of being a kid fishing with my dad up at the cottage. Weird the way songs from your childhood stick with you and bring back some great memories
Last night I listened to this song. Something came over me , like an emotional premonition. I was thinking about the day me and my wife have a child , and how beautiful he would be. Thinking of wonderful that day would be. It's such a beautiful song , I can't help but be melancholy and hopeful everytime I hear it. Jim puts so much heartfelt feeling in his voice , especially at 2:56 . I can't wait to be a father btw , and these thoughts give me such joy! ^_^
I saw Garth Brooks sing this song last Friday night live and my god, it reminded me what great music this man created! It is amazing to think of what he could of done if not for his early death. It is also sad to think that in todays looks driven culture this talent would never be seen due to the fact he wasnt hot to look at.
@smoochie2ya Isn't that sad? Talent because of looks instead of the soul in their voice, not to say there aren't some artists out there today that could do without that but it's what sells I guess. It's all in the packaging these days.
I have this on my I pod touch and whenever this song comes on I sing along...my dog thinks I'm crazy...lol...I was lucky enough to hear this when it first came out...and have loved it ever since...the words kinda ring true for me...sad but true
im only 27,..but i really love to hear the music from the 70's up to early 90's,for me,they are composed and sung to lasts...a 2-thumbs up to jim croce...
@iw32 Hey try to keep your spirits up. I was kinda down not too long ago and with the help of one of my good friends and some great music i pulled out of it. Just dont give up.
Takes me back for sure! Jim Croce, Harry Chapin, Cat Stevens and (don't laugh) Neil Diamond wrote the soundtrack to my and my friends' misspent youth. True artists who could make you feel their words. They somehow tapped into the emotional truths that we all experience.
@JonathanOnLife im 13 i love kenny rogers, bob dylan, the beatles, led zepp, acdc, nirvana, the stones, dave mason and other classics my dad was the one who pointed out all of this to me.
The line "You can keep the dime" get me every time by the time Croce breaks into the chorus again. Powerful simple lyric by a talented man who should still with us.
Jim Croce was just 30 years of age (the exact same age of Patsy Cline when she too was killed in an airplane crash) when he died in a small commercial airplane accident as the aircraft was attempting to take off. No matter the circumstances, no one should die after just 30 years on this earth. Jim Croce's music, and lyrics, were so enjoyable ~ perhaps in another place, and time, we can all be reunited with Jim and his talents.
no... ^^ don't think of the music they could have made...think of how much they could have helped with our new generations of children. If they had not died...^^ it is not a mournful passing...but they would not have been lost so easily for current youth, even if they had not come up with more wonderful music. not saying that they would not have made alot more great music just that they would have been more memorable if they has the chance to help the parents influence the young just a bit mor
Great music , great song. 70's music was great, I was a young lad when Jim died. I remember I came home from my friends house and my older sister had been crying. Thats how I found out about his death. R.I.P Jim.
@CaptainHurpDurp and Stevie Ray Vaughn! he died in a helicopter crash. Eric Clapton was supposed to be in his seat but SRV had a concert in another city so eric clapton let him take the helicopter and it crashed and he died. RIP all the greatest musicians
i used to listen to jim when i was a kid because it sounded good, but as i grew up and actually experienced life i got a whole new appreciation for his music. some of his music can bring me to tears. he was a great songwriter. may his legacy live on forever.
