I wonder if Americans won because they are really fast or because of the technology in their suites. Can someone explain that? Unless everyone wore the same suit - it's not fair - and they cheat. Which embarrasses me of course.

Then again, I am assuming based on what I heard. So if anyone can provide more info.. don't slam me.

the suits that the americans use help to keep the body buoyant therefore there is less drag against the water. without the suit the athlete would need to use more energy to keep their body higher on the water. it also streamlines the body. also helping to reduce drag. these suits are not against the rules and every swimmer can wear them if they choose. so its not cheating. the u.s. has always had the best swimmers in the world even before these suits.

That is ridiculous! The suit can't get anywhere without the swimmer in the suit. Besides three out of the four guys on the french team wore the LZR speedo, including their anchor Alain Bernard (the only other guy who didn't was their leadoff). Just like three of his teammates, he had a choice to use whatever suit he wanted, and he chose another suit. Besides there were other flaws that caused the french to lose and it wasn't the suit.
