  • This is great because we've only really heard to one side of what Judas had done. This gives us what he felt; he was just scared. He just helped in the wrong way though.

  • The best musical commercial writing ever done about Jesus.

  • Nobody can match how he sang this version. It's too good to better.

  • This is an overlooked rock record.

  • This song is from the ORIGINAL Vinyl-LP´s on the dubble-album... as I got at home also since the early 70:th, bought in that time.. :-))) this is one of the best songs on it and Gethsemane also is one of my favourites.. But to listen on the both Vinyl-LP´s and follow it with the text of the songs as is with in the album is to follow a long story with very good music.Thanx..

  • Carl does have a better voice, but I like the backround in this version more.

  • A-ma-zing.

  • I love both Murray's version and Carl's version. Both passionate, personal interpretations of this powerful masterpiece of a song. Murray wins my vote on sheer vocal interpretation and Carl wins for his monster on-screen/stage performance of this song. Both goosebump-enducing masters at the top of their craft!

  • Just found out theres a movie called... JESUS CHRIST, VAMPIRE HUNTER! Watch the trailer. Just please watch the trailer.

  • this is great check out my channel

  • This guy sure doesn't sound black, and I don't enjoy my Judas' that way!

  • absolutely the double "Brown Album" is the ONLY truly definitive Superstar recording, hands down.

  • When I was was in college back in the day, our choir director decided he was going to do JCS.....we didn't have enough men to sing all the parts, so we had to sing at least 5 or 6 .....I was....Jesus ......King Herod......Simon Zealotes....and a bunch of chorus parts......at 57....I still know all the words!

  • Murray Head sounds like a young Ozzy Osbourne

  • Murray Head is the original and BEST Judas, period. Amazing vocals and interpretation of the material.

  • I think Carl Anderson had much more feeling!!!

  • @sw33tisraeligirl It was different. Carl Anderson acted and sang brilliantly, but for me, nothing compares to the tapestry woven by Ian Gillan and Murray Head

  • This is Murray Head, not Ben Vereen. How could you post something, and have the wrong artist?

  • This version is the best! You can't download it.......

  • Best version of Judas by far.

  • Anyone else recognize the motive from Duke Nukem 3D?

  • Anti-people now you've gone to far, here's your ANTICHRIST, SUPERSTAR !!

  • ANTICHRIST SUPERSTAR!!

  • Head's version remains the best (as does his version of "Jesus Christ Superstar"). Every other one pales in comparison, including the recent highly praised Stratford Shakespeare Festival performance (sounds anemic in comparison).

  • This is so good !

  • I didn't know this was an album before it was on the stage... I love the movie version, but this is great too! I must find the whole album sometime.

And whoever said he sounds like his brother, you're right, he does a bit. ;)

  • The movie version was better... just saying, but thank you for posting the music so it is not forgotten

  • @RikuIshmaru I think this is way better than the movie. This is actually singing, that was more acting and overdoing it.

  • @iliketherangersalot2 that is true, but I like how the movie has more "umf" into it... just a preference I guess

  • Atheist reporting in-im here for the rock

  • well your followers are blind to much heven on there minds.

  • Most definitely my favorite song! Judas and Mary are my favorite characters!(:

  • Best version ever...

  • 4 people have hell on their minds.

  • Far and away my favorite... no other that I have heard have the emotion of this version. To be fair, I think some of the other versions were let down by weak back up, as well. The music that backs Murray up is stellar...

  • i love this!

  • OH HELL YES!

  • murray head is the original and the best...but i'll admit every major version of jesus christ(70', 73', and 2000) has all had pretty good judas'....unfortunately the jesus in the 73' movie was horrible as was every other singer(except for anderson) in that version... 2000 was good but not as great as this original!

  • @arodoet126 I thought Daultry did a good job.

  • @arodoet126 I agree kind of, the singers in 2000 were good but compared to the original...no comparison original all the way (except Poor Jerusalem)

  • @lilsarahbooable no i agree the original is the best... as i stated!

  • Carl Anderson better!!!

  • Murray head is easily the best Judas.. Just listen to his voice he sound so desparate and so interesting. And i very much like that he doesn't use that much vibrato.. i've always felt that overusing it makes you sound very boring..

  • @StratApple I disagree. While I believe that Ian Gillan is the driving force of the soundtrack making this soundtrack better than the movie , I really really REALLY dig Carl Andersons voice

  • @StratApple yeah your so right mate...murray..great actor and singer...he was brilliant in this... so much emphasis in his voice.. plus he looked fuckin cool,,

  • @StratApple Carl Anderson all the way; he bothered to sing it with soul.

  • "My mind is clearer now..."

  • My whole childhood this was always on my moms record player!! <3 Judas he had the most amazing voice

  • Pretty nasty funky riffs. I dig.

  • The first, the best.

  • a little different from what i have heard but i like it still

  • @MrSwicked8991 Dude...it's the original version! :+)

  • so so powerful!

  • so so powerful!

  • "We are occupied, have you forgotten how put down we are?" The expressiveness in his voice on that phrase still gives me goose bumps after 40 years!

  • 2 people dislike Judas.

  • @drexeldave 2 people are probably deaf

  • @kingdmac02

Murray Head doesn't need to use vibrato because he is capable (unlike most of today's singers) of singing in key!

  • @ebrady65 Exactly , as a singer, I cheat with vibrato. We all do .

  • Best song on the entire album. it encapsulates what the entire story is all about, and it does it in a kick-ass way. It incorporates all of the elements of rock -- piano, guitar, lyric, bass, pathos. It's a mystifyingly beautiful song with a tinge of sadness and trepidation about what is about to happen. Pure genius in the writing and delivery. God, I'm so thankful I was alive along with these incredibly talented people.

  • @tmac052558 Yes I agree this is the subject of the movie. A view of Christ mission from Judas perspective

  • 2 people are both wrong

  • This is so fabulous still. I love Murray Head.

  • If I was judas, I would be singing the same song

  • far better than the film version, that version seemed he was singing to the camera rather than trying to convey the feelings the song was meant for.

  • far better than the film version, that version seemed he was singing to the camera rather than trying to convey the feelings the song was meant for.

  • This due got some killer pipes. Not everyone can yell like that while singing and actually pull it off.

  • Wow... this is incredible.

  • This brings back memories of the 70's for me. I was a music major and thought this was incredible!!

  • i loev this song!

  • I always thought Murray Head made a much more intense sounding Judas than the guy in the movie. I'm also a Gillan man. He was way better than Neeley.

  • @BillMonarch one of my all time favorite shows.. have seen it on stage so many times I have lost count!!! and yeah Murray Head was incredible.. though Carl Anderson has a good voice.. Ted Neely was always too wimpy for me... oh well.. the new version that you can find on youtube is very odd... don't like it much... it's all hip hop/goth/punk and not really great singers/actors.. One of the worst versions I saw was with Dennis DeYoung (yeah the singer from Styx) he was way over the top

  • nice!?!?!?!?!

  • There was a video on YouTube, but just noticed it's been removed - forgot why! However, it was a modern scene with Murray Head walking along some scafolding, it looked like! But it was great!

  • I saw this live when it was still a new musical, I'm still not tired of it, and this is undoubtedly the best recording of it, I just wish there was a video to go with it. I just found out that Murray Head is Anthony Head's brother - singing talent runs in that family!

  • didn''t need the movie, all it took was to listen to this and the whole story would play out in my head in technicolour. So vivid was the imagery in the music

  • He sounds just like his brother :)

  • OH MY!! MY DAD HAS THIS ALBUM HE USED TO PLAY IT FOR ME WHEN I WAS A KID, IT HIPNOTIZED ME THEN AS IT DOES NOW <3 AND YES THIS IS THE BEST VERSION BECAUSE ITS THE ORIGINAL ONE!!!

  • Que mejor forma de llevar la religión en la vida...

  • This is the best version and singers of all versions I've seen. Lizner Autotorium in DC had a great set come to town. The version of King Herod was done great. I don't know who did it but, he put a little funk soul to the segment and it when over well and the croud just loved it.

  • One person doesn't have heaven on their mind.

  • @TaraKitaideHunter Make that two buddy :)

  • @TaraKitaideHunter Make that two buddy :) I disliked it :)

  • @TaraKitaideHunter He's talking about Jesus' followers, not Jesus himself, or at least not solely Jesus. He even says later, "All your followers are blind, too much heaven on their minds."

  • @TaraKitaideHunter make that 3

  • @TaraKitaideHunter Actually if you take the meaning of the song, it would mean those 4 people HAVE heaven on their minds.

  • Nothing better than this original cast...

  • Yes... Murray Head... master vocalist of the 70s...

  • I like his "Jesus!" yell better than any other singer. And for some reason, I like that he doesn't use a lot of vibrato, because his crooning makes Judas more realistic. Just my thoughts

  • Lassan megtalálom az összes betétet, nagyon örülök!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • well i got simon zealotes at my school play, but i would have picked that one here too :P

  • Surely this is Murray Head??

  • @Lil1943 Yes.

  • @rpot990

Totally agree with you - why, oh why, didn't Gillan accept the part - big mistake and our loss. No vocalists compare to those on original 1970 recording (in my opinion!) I have it in vinyl somewhere and hope to obtain it on CD.

  • @Lil1943 Apparently he had touring commitments and couldn't work in the time to do the movie.

  • And Murray Head looked so young - what a voice!

  • About the opera - Murry Head is the best Judas of all - Great singer, great presence on stage.

About Judas the disciple - the comment about an abortionist trying to talk to a group of moderates is spot on - and remember what happened to Judas...

  • This isnr a soundtrack, its an original piece before the movie :)

  • Perfect.

  • This song is relevant today. Judas sounds like a moderate on the abortion issue singing to a bunch of militants.

  • The Vocalist doing Judas in the Original recording was named Murray Head, in addition to his work here, he is probably best known for "One Night In Bangkok"

  • Heaven on their minds from the bible. You need heaven in your heart from Jesus by the gift of the Holy Ghost. The bible is only history, you can only know HIM by the Spirit. The old covenant was by the book, the new covenant is by the Spirit.

The Bible is the Mark of the Beast!

  • who's this Judas? he doesn't seems Carl Anderson...

  • @abionzo This is from the original Jesus Christ Superstar from 1970. It is Murray Head. Fantastic vocals. Also in this original from 1970 the part of Jesus sung by Ian Gillian. When the movie came out I had a hard time with the new voice of Jesus (Ted Neely) and Judas (Carl Anderson), but they were also great...just not like the original cast, IMO.

  • The greatest version ever made - too bad the movie didn't include these guys!

  • Awesome

  • it is this song and all of this album! the music the experience changed me forever! too deep sorry! its true!

  • This is awesome. I was 10 yrs old when I heard this from my older brothers stereo. Still sounds good.

  • Brings back so many memories!

  • was in 1971

  • unforgetable sound!!!

  • Hiya...

Can you please add "Hosanna" to this list of recordings from the album?

    Thank you. =)
