At 42yrs young I ride a ctm125 and wear a full length jacket with full CE armour. You can kill yourself just easily at 65mph as 165mphin my opinion. As for jumping on a 1000cc bike straight away - a bit mad to be fair. Build up with caution I say, that way you learn your craft in less hazardous situations. Here in the UK it is compulsory to pass a basic training course before you are allowed to ride on the road.
all the arguement about beginner starting w/ 250 or bigger...i havent ridden a bike for a longtime...like 5yrs..so its like a beginner..then i bought1 a 650cc boulevard s40..i feel like a real beginner...and just wanna say the guy is over dress...lol..
people don't have brains they think it's so cool to own a big bike well believe me start on a 250, then when you can ride go for something bigger these dudes get there license and they think they can ride, well they can't
I have an 01' rebel 250 and I love it. people rag on it for being too small and underpowered but I can get up to 75 just fine on the highway and keep up with traffic. plus the rebel is extreemely reliable and easy to maintain. if you want a reb, dont let anyone talk you out of it. you can come over to hondarebelforum [.] com and have about three hundred other people tell you what a great bike it is. im wrzesinski if you come over!
Trying to look for a bike... i just turn 15 so he's limited to 250cc's by law, and mom. Would this be good? Workin my ass of at Jack-n-The Box and at home haha.
IMHO, the 750cc is best size bike, it's fast and light but big enough to run with the big dogs. I weigh 245 lbs and my Virago 700 pulls me and a passenger along great, plenty of power and great on gas.
I mean no offense here, buy WHY do so many people make great videos like this that hardly last a little more than a minute. This is a GREAT bike and I would really love to see more of it. If you have another bike like this one, please make another video, only much longer this time!!
@ererye no, the rebel is also only 250cc's. Go for something bigger, I would say find something from 500-1000 CC's for your first bike, you will be much happier with it. Do some research!
@starguard no, definitely not. my first was a yamaha xj750, fit me just fine. its not so much about engine size as it is about bike weight. i say, do research and find something over 500cc's that isnt too heavy. i got the 250 as more of a novelty. they are fun to ride, but not practical.
@ererye this is a little yamaha 250 v star. I would personally recommend saving up a bi more for the 650, you will be more happy with that as a first bike. i paid $4k for this little guy, as a novelty more than anything, but the fun factor of the little bike wore off real fast and i wanted a bigger bike again.
@chrisisaboss707 Bad advise, getting a bike at a young age is already problematic but saying to get something bigger than a 500 is just plain dumb and not responsible. A 250 is a perfect beginner bike, even if you want to move up after one season, you will be a better rider. Sincerely..Thomas G., certified MSF course and super-bike training school instructor.
@chrisisaboss707 - The problem with the V-star 650 is that the seat is horribly uncomfortable. If you're going to get one, change the seat. If not and you're going to 'go up' from a V-star 250, I say go with either the V-star 950, any Honda Shadow models (preferably those with a chain drive), a Suzuki C50, a Kawasaki Vulcan 900, or any Triumph with the 865cc motor (or 790cc if you want a used bike).
Psh, these 250's do about 92-95 mph if broken in correctly, i bought mine with 5000 miles on it, i dont have my endorsement yet, but my dad drove it up to 85 and had quite a bit of throttle left.
@TheDarizer 250 cc's, i thought i wanted it for my collection of bikes, but soon the small factor of it lost its pizzaz haha. sold it and put the money down on my other yamaha

I got my 2009 to run 87 once on a long straightaway running just slightly uphill. I'm 125 lbs and that was crouching down. Haven't verified the speedo with GPS yet. It will run 82-85 pretty consistently. MrJinzo44 is right, 70-75 all day with factory sprockets. 85-89 miles per gallon depending on how you push it.
K i'm contimplating buying this bike, looks like a good starter! but all my buddys say that it's not powerful enough i'll be tired of it once i get the hang of it
eh, ive had it about 6 months and i still love it. but ive been riding for years and prefer the smaller bikes. they are much more easy to manuver. sure, not as fast, but just as fun and better on gas. thats what i say.
looks and sounds great for a 250!. i would buy one for my learners but i live on really rough dirt roads so its pointless buying a road bike/cruiser. have to wait till i move into town to buy a road bike.
im more into sportbikes...but recently...ive REALLY looked at cruisers in detail....and they are also beautiful bikes............i plan on riding sportbikes...but later on in life...i WILL buy a cruiser..... yay!
ya, it got to 80 no prob. its brand new off the lot, 2009. the odo reads 300 miles as of last week =] im 6'2" and its fine for me. ive never felt uncomfortable on it. but its not so much your height that matters as the length of your legs. i have a 33" inseam.

well, if your lookin for new and affordable, the 250 v star is great. i payed $3,800 new off the lot. and its definitely fast for its size, but thats most likely because it only weighs 300 pounds! VERY light bike.
it sounds even better now that i gutted the pipes a did a rejet! ill post a vid of that in not too long here. yea ive tried it on the highway, and it works just fine there too =] gets up to speed just fine. ive taken up to 80 mph no problem.
In Vietnam, these bikes are consider BIG bikes. I don't know why others get like 1000cc as their first bike. I would be happy with a 250cc.
