You ride with Wendy Lynn Arabians. I live here in scottsdale and trained with her for a while. While my dad was in Iraq. I had to find a different trainer cause I couldn't afford her lessons anymore :( I miss her so much
You def. look like a hunter rider in a saddle seat saddle. Don't worry though that it what people say about me when I ride my leasing horse because I do and have been doing saddle seat lessons for 9 years. You need to not grip the saddle with your calf. Grip with your knee, and keep your lower leg away from the saddle. Raise you hands, have a more curve in your back, and try to show the crowd the bottom of your boot! Check out my videos for more! Hopefully I will have my saddlebred outside soon!
this video is super helpful! my high school eq team coach is putting me in saddleseat at our meets this fall and I'm trying to learn as much about it as I can. You look awesome, and same with your horse! :)
Lovely horse. I kind of miss saddle seat. I think being cross-trained is great. While I had my horses, I tried to learn as much as possible - huntseat, saddleseat, western, showmanship, bareback... versatility is great! :) If I can ever get back into the horse world again, I hope to keep on learning. Good for you! :)
Very good. But i think your shoulders could come back more. Try sticking your chest out. It helps bring your shoulders back and it works. I did it in lessons on a mare named Jam and it worked like a charm and we began to flow a bit.
@klsunsnowluck hunt seat is for like jumping and stuff and the back is heigher up and so is the front saddle seat is also call a cut back saddle and a flat saddle because the saddle is flatter and it has like a U shape in the front and it sits back farther on the horses back to let them move there shoulders more saddle seat horses usally are more high steppy so they need room to move. I learned to ride saddle seat and if im wrong please correct me.
you were right but to add on... the potsure is a lot different as you mentioned a little. the shoulders back, head up hips back, knees in and the ankles should be off the horse and be even with the rest of your foot.
well u can but saddle seat on a pure bred but on an arabian or a NSH not a quarter horse they r not ment 4 tht, im not trying 2 b mean i just am saying, i mite b wrong idk lol :)
my trainer kicked a lot of peoples butt on ana araibian doing saddleseat but it was a special horse also i know its very rare to see any other breeds on saddleseat but this quarter horse is built like an araibian but can move wonderfully and looks great saddle seat ;p
wats ur problem? all i said was ... and u were like "OMG O NO! ... MEANS U DONT BELIEVE IN THE HORSE!!! AHHH" u my friend r a facebook and wat i call major DREAMBOAT

Hello! I ride saddleseat and have my own horse who only does that, I think need more presence like, "I'm the best! Look at me! Give me the blue!" Ride up and back, hands up shoudlers back and have a firm hand, make post short and steady and not floppy. I hope this helps! i hope you post a new video of you riding!
i totally agree with u on saddleseat riding! I luv it so much. Its the only thing i have ridden but a few hunt seat here and there. Have you shown in saddleseat before?
Cool video! Do ride at Winter Rose with Wendy? I'm up in the north barn with Alicia. My horse is Biscuit. He's the one right next to the tack room and across from Monterey. Which horse are you on? It looks like Daisy or Star to me. Keep up the good work. =)
the horse is beautiful, but she is a little long. you should try to be tighter in your legs and hold her head up more, and you guys will be 1st place! great job though!
ok im might sound dumb but i really want to know. ok so like what is the diffrence between saddle seat and riding english...or are they the same or what i really want to know cause my friend wants me to start riding saddle seat but idk what it is! haha plz answer thxx!
wait but why were you taking a saddle-seat lesson if you ride huntseat? o.o Are you switching? Trying to learn both? I mean, you did great for your 3rd lesson but lol, why are you taking them?
I still ride huntseat sometimes (like, I exericise horses for my trainer every now and then in huntseat) but I switched over because I wanted to try something new. Plus, my huntseat horse left our barn and my trainer's saddle seat horse from new york came here, so I decided to try it and it's tons of fun.
I like to try new things too. I have taken a saddleseat lesson after time off from riding so my mom could see if this would help keep my heels down. I ride in eventing and Hunter jumper. (You're probably thinking how I can go from jumping to riding saddleseat in an instant) It was my first experience with a gaited horse when I rode warmbloods all my life and it really was a big change but now my jumping trainer recommends a saddleseat lesson once in a while to keep my equitation in check.
the hand thing isn't bad, unless your riding equitation, you want to concentrate more on making the horse look good and having control. it usually takes about a year to get used to the horse, and once you have done that you can work on the little things like your hands. you're a fast learner if it was only your third lesson!
you looked pretty good :] i dont think your hands are too far apart but you were moving them with the horse when you were cantering so that was the only bad thing i saw.i have been riding saddleseat for 5 years and that is what i started out doing and i have ridden hunt and western and i found it much easier to learn those than saddleset!
oh yeah where do you live?i saw cactus in the background!
You can definently tell you are already a good rider :] Your posts are very tight! I ride hunt and saddleseat too, and it can sometimes be awkward..I ride morgans and saddlebreds saddleseat, so your horses neck looks wayy too short...lol but good job overall!!
Keep your hands closer together...they're waaaay too far apart. But it's alright, I see it a lot when hunter riders come into saddleseat, and you look great for only your third lesson :]
dudesihavefood: no, you are not. i have owned an arabian for six years and a half-arabian for four, and riding them saddleseat is no different than riding my saddlebred saddleseat. the equitation is the same; the only difference should be how high you hold your hands to accommodate an arabian's shorter neck. hands should be apart, yes, but not straight out from your sides.
ok yea and who trains you angyllaydying? a ten year old. my trainer has won countless national championships and your hands are suppose to be the width of your body which hers are so shut up and don't talk about things you don't know.
You did really well for this only being your third saddleseat lesson. The trasnsition from huntseat to saddleseat is usually really difficult for people. :) Keep up the good work.
anyways you need to roll your shoulders back & get an arch in your back.
& it wouldn't hurt to bring your hands in together & that will also help you remember to keep your arms up because as they go down they will seperate & you will remember to pick them back up.
i would just say as something i think about, sit like youre stretching yourself out, if that makes any sense lol. and arch your back in a little bit. but just a little. lol [= nice job for 3rd lesson
Erm, saddle seat on Miss Dukes? I don't think she would be able to do saddle seat. I mean, she has to be able to collect and have a nice, high headset. She's just not built for it... =/
Hell no. xDD Her head is waaay up in the clouds all of the time. I can get her to collect with minimum difficulty. She is part Morgan, a breed for saddleseat..
When I first started, I was so worried about keeping my leg in the right position (since cutbacks don't have padded knee rolls like huntseat saddles do) that my trainer was like, "Your legs look fine! Focus on the horse!"
I have my lesson today! Its fun! I ride alot of different horses. I'll get some videos up ASAP!

Wendy went to nationals and won reserve/champion a few years back in sidesaddle and saddleseat.
There is a gorgeous PB arab (see the lesson with Camille and Bey Shaheene. I would LOVE to do saddleseat with him. I may do it on Dukes as well.

luvbliss 4 years ago
No, that's not what I mean. Her neck is really...stocky and...well, it's just hard to explain! I just don't think she'd be good for saddle seat.
PacinoJCA 4 years ago
Well, she doesn't get her stocky neck from the TB or Mustang. A traditional Morgan has a thick neck.
luvbliss 4 years ago
Arg! Nevermind. I can't explain what I'm trying to say.
PacinoJCA 4 years ago
saddleseat horses dont have to be built a certain way..they just need the correct head carrage, breed & movement.
PhantomJumper08 3 years ago
Which is why I don't think Daizey could do saddle seat...she just doesn't have nice hock action and is kinda well...
PacinoJCA 3 years ago
you can always fix that with pads & chains & other equipment...
i seen you said she is part morgan.what else is she?
PhantomJumper08 3 years ago
