This helps!!!

Open up the fallout.ini file in: My Documents\My Games\Fallout3

Find the line:

bUseThreadedAI=0

change it to:

bUseThreadedAI=1

Add another line after it and insert:

iNumHWThreads=2

This will limit the game to 2 cores and prevent the engine bug from causing the game to freeze. And if it still freezes, change iNumHWThreads=2 to iNumHWThreads=1

But when I did what you said and the other guide combined it works excellent. Took a few hours, but I can finally play, and it even looks pretty good considering I'm running integrated graphics.

This happened to me and i have windows 7 but i managed to fix it by right clicking the fallout3 launcher and going to properties then click on the compatibility tab and checking the box saying "run in compatibility mode" and the drop box should be "windows xp (service pack 3)" then start fallout 3 and it should work.

i had same problem so put this file in fallout 3 folder you can use everything but your own custom mods but you can use mods from nexus still.

Playing New Vegas now with all DLCs installed and no updates used and works great on windows 7 64-bit Home. They are still working on the drivers for the 400 series. Thinks its going to be several months before Nvidia get them right. My friend has had issues with his GTX 460. Still using my 8800 GTS 512mb, Q9300 quad 258.96 drivers and have had no issues playing all my games on high with some AA and AF. Also see the Nvidia forums people are annoyed on their GTX 480s still have driver issues...
