  • Beautiful playing

  • he hacked the tuba :O

  • Amazing job! That's all I can really say. Amazing.

  • are there pitch bends written in the first few lines?

  • @riskytim No, don't know how you would think that listening to this guy. He's great. :)

  • pretty good. how old are you?

  • This solo was originally written for a French tuba. The closest equivalent is a euphonium which is why it is often played on euphonium. While his playing is impressive, it is not meant for something that large.

  • @davidelias1 thats what she said.... anywayy lol what about a small f tuba?

  • 4 morons do not like this vid.

  • wunderschöner Ton und natürlich auch klasse gespielt :-)

  • It's very high..

  • AMAZING, i just got handed this but an octive lower

  • Excellent job - While many Euphonium players end up getting the job the song is better suited for the tone quality of the Tuba. Bydlo describes a lumbering ox-cart with huge wooden wheels sloshing through muddy country roads. The timbre and resonance of the tuba does justice to this piece. Very well done.

  • This is very difficult to play on a "Monster" tuba that is so common-place now; Ravel wrote this solo for a small 6-valved C tuba used in French (and perhaps also Belgian) orchestras prior to WWII. A euphonium is about as "authentic" as one can get now. Hopefully one day, there will be a push for tubists to play pre-WWII French orchestral music on the instrument for which the parts were intended. These huge CC/BBb horns aren't always the most appropriate instruments in every situation.

  • BEAUTIFUL!

  • you crazy vikings....

  • O_O

  • good high note

  • CCtuba?

  • No way in hell

  • I practiced this solo for months... before I lost it to the Euphonium player. The high G# was just too much for my new braces. I was only hitting it like 1/5 of the time. However, I have heard that the higher range is much easier on the F-tuba. (Which is what he is using)

    He's still my hero, though.

  • Dude, you are amazing. I'm thinkin' of goin' to USC...maybe. It wold be awesome to play the tuba there!

  • If you ask me, this guy is the next up for either the Boston Pops, or NY Philharmonic, it would be his choice!

Im a tuba player, and I was thinking of making it my career, but WOW! do I have a way to go.Awesome playing almost brought a tear to my eye.

  • You'll get there

  • Believe it or not, the horn he's playing is a YFB-822 F tuba. Normally the big yamaha is kinda bland sounding, but he makes it sing

  • What model tuba is that. It sounds like a rotary F but is piston! I love the sound of my miraphone 180.....dude what horn is that I ant tell from the side

  • this is fucken amazing, i'll eventually be able to play in that range with control, it will just take time and practice.

  • how did you develop your range like that

  • Practice.

  • you have amazing tone and accuracy especially on the high G#'s, you could make any pro orch. you want!

  • Damn. It's just a matter of time before he gets an orchestral job.

  • man, that was ON

  • amazing tone...wow...thats was sweet....g#s were dead on

  • Too much good men, congratulations...

  • ohh yeahhh :)

  • Nice job on the high G#'s!

The Ox Cart is one of my favorite movements out of that piece.

  • very good congratulations

  • this kid could go pro...damn.

  • That's really awesome.

I love the high note attack.

    =)

  • I've only heard this song with euphonium

    You have great tuning

    Awesome playing!

  • there doesnt seem to be a continuous line. sound dies often... almost every 3-5 notes.

  • maybe every 10 notes. great high note excution however

  • seems to be puffing his cheeks, but ya can't argue with the results...nicely played, great sound, especially up high

  • That was absolutely *the* best I have ever heard that played. Wow... Your pitch is perfect -- razor accurate. Your immediacy of sound and tone is amazing! Those G#s ring full and round. Just wow!! Nice goin'!

  • Very nice! That G# rolls off VERY sweetly.

  • He plays with F tuba

  • Still not an easy note to hit reguardless of the key the tuba's in.

  • Eb or Bb?

  • I believe hes playing a F tuba
