@TheBavarianAryan Ethnically he was -a Baltic German (actually born in Austria) of whom there were many in the Russian aristocracy. Politically he was as a loyal a Russian and son of the Tsar as you would ever find, he just had German blood in his veins.
actually he didnt fight for the whites in the end,the plan was that him and Semenov would instate a russo/asian monarchy in northeast asia with the support from the Japanese,he raided as many white trains and caravans as red trains and caravans in the 20's
2 weeks later the Red Army entered Warsaw and NKWD began to search Ossendowski. When they get to know he was dead, they dig up his buried body, compered the corpse with Ossendowski's photos they had and called for a dentist to identificate if this was really Ossendowski. When they finally assured themselves that it was him they left very unsatisfied.
@adam860212, your comments are very informative & interesting! As it happens I'm in the middle of reading Ossendowski's really fascinating book "Beasts Men and Gods". I think he was a great scholar and a very courageous man indeed.
During Warsaw Uprising of 1944 Ossendowski left the city and moved to a manor house in Żółwin which was full of refugees from burning Warsaw. On day, a limo covered with tarpaulin arrived at the manor house. A young officer in a rank of a lieutenat got out of the car and asked about Ossendowski. Than he introduced himself as Unbeg von Sternberg. On the next day Ossendowski was ddead.
After Ungern's death, when Ossendowski settled in Poland and led a quiet life of a writer-journalist he used to say, but rather in a manner of joke, that due to a prophecy of an old mongolian lama, who once foretold that Ungern would die within 16 weeks, Ossendowski is going to die no sooner than Ungern himself remains him to do so.
Later Ossendowski denied that he had hidden Ungern's treasures but there were witnesses who claimed that he was the only person who could possibly know where all this gold was.
It is said that gen. Kolczak gave the legendary treasure of tsars to Unberg. Than Unberg passed it to Ossendowski along with many more stolen gold and lamaist treasures hoping that this man, who brilliantly knew the geography of Asia and spoke fluently 8 foreign languages (among them chinese and mongolian) would be able to hide it somewhere.
I really do not know what to think about him. I've just read Ossendowski's book on his escape from bolshevik Russia and friendship with baron. I think, I had to get to known something more about Ungern-Sternberg. By the way, do you Know that Ossendowski himself is a very misterious person. Specially his death seems to be quite enigmatic.
this man was one of the best soldiers russia ever produced he was outstanding in every way then he went native fighting and winning his own way, he was operating with his ragtag army quite beyond any acceptable norm of human conduct and quite obviously he had gone insane!
Trouble is, most of the stuff you read is legend -very, *very* little is known for sure about him. That being said, most likely had more than a few screws loose.
...nice video...I'm a royalist too...

He is a very interesting maniac. Очень интересный человек, маньяк, мечтавший объединить Монголию и ликвидировать большевизм.
