Sorry, but the dancing and street theater is just plain tacky.
Next time, bring either a real or symbolic Birthday cake. Maybe even sing Happy Birthday.
It's simple, it's workable, it's fittingly respectful. Jefferson was not much for all the elaborate, over-the-top theatrics. He would definitely appreciate the simplicity of a cake and song.
Guarantee you'll get a much better response next time.
I'll be in D.C. on July 12th for the Revolution March (.com for interested others). It is now our (a small group of us) plan to be there with our headphones on in solidarity and to also honor Thomas Jefferson.
Gee, better be careful in this effed up society. Section 802 of the 'patriot act' says that all misdemeanors can be treated as terrorism. My man Tom Jefferson is looking down in shame and disgust. Meanwhile, the borders are wide open, the country is broke, and kids can't dance to honor a president. This country sucks and blows! When are the sheeple going to wake up?
Couples make out at night at the Jefferson (and Lincoln and Washington and WWII) all the time. Judging by the popularity of this, nobody's stopping them. But silent dancing gets you arrested. And groups of loud school tourist groups get a pass. Is there a DC Monument Scale of Disorderly Conduct?
Oh please. They gathered in a LEGAL group at a time when very few people would be there to quietly dance in place for a few minutes then leave. There were about between 20-24. Any more than that and they would have had to gotten a permit to be there. They followed all the laws and rules. And I'm sure having headphones on counts as quiet.
And dancing is childish? And how was this a stunt?
Clearly the rent-a-cops over-reacted. The DC Police abused their powers by making an arrest.
Recordings of sound levels during the day and the amount of "disrespectful" activity that is tolerated at other times (under the watch of the same security officers) would surely make that case for a charge of selective and prejudicial enforcement.
they could have woken jefferson up.

Interesting that they singled out the cute blonde female for arrest and "processing." Hmmm. I wonder if they strip-searched her.

Well, at least they're properly comparing themselves to children. That's a step in the right direction for them.
Limousine Libertarians need to stop giving activists a bad rep with childish stunts.

Fuck you, if you aren't Libertarian you aren't an activist, you're just another motherfucker supporting the state.

This wasn't a stunt, it was simply an activity. They were dedicating ten minutes to a very important man in U.S. history. How the fuck are
are you about to judge their dedication to libertarian ideals when you don't even know them? Fuck you sir, you suck.

Clearly arresting cops and the prosecutor have little understanding of the US constitution. Unfortunately, this is not surprising.
