  • christ were wud we be now without the big fella

    fuck the black and tans

  • Michael Collins some man! Irish Hero!!!

de valera da fukn traitor !!!

  • Was it De Valera that put the death sentence on Michael Collins and if this was the case WHY because the way I see it De Valera wanted a War with Britain and collins could see that this would be a no win situation where it would only end in large numbers of the Irish people being slaughtered for De Valera's ego unless I can see diferently De Valera murdered Collins.

  • hurra! auf in den tod.

und fiese hunnen schlachten, wa......ihr spasemakken...^^

  • @jockelinho are u a kraut or somtin

  • The Big Fella a BIG hero.

  • christ lads ye are basing ye're knowldege on a two hour feature film, read the documents in the archives

  • Some man for one man.

Altough I still think he single handedly gave the north away.

  • I disagree. Collins was the one who shattered Britain's intelligence system. Collins didn't want to be at the treaty negotiations. He said himself "I'm no politician". So why did Dev not go to the treaty negotiations and insist that Collins go instead when Dev was considered the political leader? He did it because he knew the Brits wouldn't give up the north and this way he could turn around and denounce Collins. If it weren't for Collins the bloody union jack would still be flying over all 32.

  • having henry hughes wilson assassinated and sending arms to the northern IRA also proves that he was never going to leave the north behind either. if Collins hadn't been killed, all of Ireland would've been free before guys like Gerry Adams or Martin McGuinness had even been born

  • @Eire7780 I agree with you

  • thx this vid helps on my essay

  • Dev = Fianna Fáil = Nama = Banks = Builders= the ruination of the Irish nation.

Scumbag FFs shoved their shite version of history down my throat in school, now they want me to pay for their friends stupidity.

Collins, Mulcahy etc fought against imperialism.

Why have Fianna Fáil always support it? Cnuts!

  • The point is that Dev could have done all those things in 1921 just as easily as in the 30's. But he walked out of the Dail and the Civil War killed hundreds more. It took him 20 years to get over his snit with Griffith and finally play the game.

  • God bless Michael Collins I wish he was the president of Ireland

  • Excellant footage, by god if mick were alive today this island would be free unlike the clowns in power now! May god bless the soul of the big fella.

  • If he were alive today he would have been 138 years old! And how the hell would Ireland be free with Collins. Collins was the man who signed the Treaty, for crying out loud. Collins exterminated Irish soldiers who were fighting for true Irish freedom!

  • Well he told them to wait, ya know we were on our last legs, his plan was take the birit's gun's and get more men, then take the country back

Sure fuckin peirce was offered the north back durin ww2 all he had to do was let the brit's us the port's bu he said no, pierce never wanted the 32, he wanted money

  • woops i ment Éamon de Valer, not pierce

  • We weren't on our last legs, the Brits were. As for Dev, he didn't side with the Brits during WWII because the Brits are our enemy. Of course Dev wanted the 32.

  • All he had to do was allow them to use the port's 2 fight nazi's witch are just as bad as the brit's, do u realy think all this blood shed has been worth it?

and we were let's not be stupid we were on our last leg's the irish train was running out of steam fast and we had to do somthin, if Dev truly wanted all 32, he would hav let them just use the port's, We allowed the american's to use shannon airport for rendition flight's and can u say that your ok with that?

  • First of all, letting the Brits use Irish ports would have been collaboration with the Brits, pure and simple.

Second, do you really think you can do business with the Brits. They are not to be trusted. Churchill would never have kept his word. After victory, the Brits would simply have kept Northern Ireland. During WWI the Brits offered freedom to the Arabs if they would help them fight the Turks. In return the Brits colonised them. You can't trust a Brit.

  • ok your right there but lets b honest, what did dev done for this country?

(oh and please dont think im tryin to fight with you =])

  • Dev tried to make Ireland completely independent from Britain, both politically and economically.

Dev cut all ties to the British Empire and Commonwealth. He removed the oath to the King. Also he kept Ireland neutral during the war and out of NATO.

His policy of economic independence laid the groundwork for the present Irish prosperity.

He was prepared to die for Ireland and represented the soul of Ireland.

  • the treaty was the best thing he could of got out of that meeting thing, if he hadnt signed the treaty the war against the british would of got so much worse and the british have proper weapons which could have caused mass destruction and killed many more people than that were killed during the civil war

  • Yes, but weren't the British already in full out war with the Irish. How could they have made worse, the Brits were already doing their worst. What do you think?

  • The British weren't in an all-out war, also the IRA was on it's last legs.

  • Weren't they. What about Cork which was burnt to the ground and the indiscriminate killing of Irish civilians on bloody sunday?

Why was the IRA on it's last legs? Guerrillawarfare can usually be held uo indefintely.

  • read a history book, I'm correct.

  • @93rardo De Valera tried to destroy them because Collins was a threat to his personal political ambitions.

  • @EbookCashStreams

The only personal ambition Dev had was freedom for the Irish nation. That movie about Michael Collins has had a real negative effect on the Irish people.

  • but the brits wernt already in full-out-war against the irish, they were just fighting back the worst was yet to come. the irsh didnt even have enough weaponary to hold out for another week wheras the brits had an ongoing supply- the irish would of just run out of bullets and soon after that morale and then the brits would just exsterminate them.

  • Collins said himself the treaty was just a stepping stone, if everyone had just listened to what he had to say before blowing things out of proportion than maybe it would have turned out very different.

  • Again, the Brits were already doing their worst. And guerrila warfare can go on and on.

  • A brilliant tribute to true hero.

  • buy looking at him you wouldn't think he was one of the greastest historical characters. he just looks like another paddy

    But what a legend

He did more for ireland in that short time

than de valera did in his hole time incharge

    COLIINS R.I.P
