I learned shuffling from this video. I thought couldn't do it because of small hands but you example made clear for me, that I just held the card wrong in my hands. I'm 24 and had been embarrassing not to be able to shuffle probably. This is now over. Thanks. :-)
Thank you for the video. I had never seen this kind of shuffling till I came to America. In Japan, everyone was doing the hindu shuffle. Now I need to practice this one.
I hope some beginners get something out of this video. For more basic information on the things you can do with the overhand shuffle, anyone can refer to "The Expert at the Card Table," by S.W. Erdnase or "The Royal Road to Card Magic," by Hugard and Braue.
Um, did you open by insulting me? Did you then continue by jumping to conclusions? Read what you wrote. Of course I need to get smarter. So does everyone. Just not you.
I'm trying to teach young people a simple shuffle for actual shuffling purposes, not to instruct for future false shuffling (which is generally the point of the hand positions in Erdnase.) Some kids have small hands and the forefinger and pinky positions you describe may be a stretch for them.
Why don't you put up your own videos so that little people like you can snipe at them?
You say "my position is wrong and everything." Yes, of course. It's not Erdnase. So it's "wrong," because, naturally, to a simpleminded, there is only one way to do anything.
Perhaps you didn't notice that this video is for "learn2multiply," not "learn2 be a magic weenie who snipes at anything he doesn't understand on the internet."
Your hand position is wrong and everything. The index finger should be at the outer edge and the pinky should be at the inner edge. Also it is not called "running" cards. Running cards is a term used when you use your thumb to drag one card off of the stock at time, this is used in a lot of sleights.
Well, "iTzJesus," so of course you know everything. You are right about one thing - I miscalled dropping groups of cards as "running" in the video, but I guess you missed my comment to skapuppet mentioning running as milking the cards with the thumb. So a simple mistake was made and corrected. Sorry you missed it, Jesus.
This is not the correct technique to overhand shuffle. The more superior technique in overhand shuffling is using the thumb to run the cards. It's faster, less sloppier, and you are able to flase overhand shuffle the deck.
"Correct" is a relative term. Dropping in batches, as opposed to "running" or "milking" the cards with the thumb makes the shuffle more random, and therefore a truer shuffle. If your aim is to actually shuffle, I think this way is best. If I were teaching a false-shuffle, there would be many things I would change. But I'm not.
Using the thumb is still an option when shuffling, but it doesn't make it "more correct."
thanks, Got it one a few tries.
