@TheStargateNerd MMORPGS aren't as refined for balance. I remember playing this demo in mid 04 and signing up to EvE second genesis and this was more refined. Even for a demo.
Ships simply flame then pop in Eve. In this there is an Explosion...... then smaller explosions around the ship... then escape pods... then more small explosions.. then a last critical explosion that turns the screen white for several seconds. <- All that takes a ~1m. That's refinement. MMO's can't practically do that.
@TheStargateNerd Yeah, they emailed me about time dilation and all that new stuff. I can't be bothered with the games basics any more. I've done what I can be bothered with.
The peak for me was soloing people in my Megathron. Since then there has been a war on small corps and solo play and all sorts of jamming webby nerf.....the magic's gone for me.
You can search out my videos on the forums Tibrius Archer Burn Baby. Some nice megathron action.
@jamreaper IG3 demo is perhaps not the most advanced game. But the feel is so good. You have a nice feeling of big guns and big ships that will take a lot of punishment.
@soldatmesteren No, they didn't fuck it up. They just took the ships and made it a different genre. And really, would you care about the state of your fleet if you could pump out more and more starship as fast as your factories can make them?
@Mazryonh No I would not care as much about the ships if I could get them out in large quantities. But what I am saying is, they maybe did not fuck up making a Jupitor incident game. But they did fuck up if you call it a Imperium galactica game.
I played that sword of the stars, you have a lot of space ships and I was doing my harddest to keep each and everyone alive : )
@soldatmesteren Like I said, blame Digital Reality for turning its back on the Imperium Galactica series (they made Haegemonia instead) and abandoning the space-based RTS genre. GT Interactive (their publisher) also went bankrupt, and the IG intellectual property may have been sold elsewhere.
Sadly the biggest space RTS name (Homeworld) treats its units as very expendable, otherwise you wouldn't lose frigates so much in Homeworld 2.
@KubusSc7 It was cancelled. Nexus is just the games resources repackaged into something else. IG3 was a full 4X game where you build ships strategically and manage planets. In fact the mission briefing setup bit on Nexus with the planets etc.. is probably the reused 'colony management' screen.
In short IG3 was going to be the daddy of 4X strategy. The fact you could make a full price combat game out of it's tactical combat segments alone shows how detailed and awesome IG3 would have been.

@CmdrTobs
That's graphical refinement, which would make the servers explode in an MMO if hundreds of ships were to do that in a short timespan.

@TheStargateNerd Yeah, I remember EvE used die back in the 10-15 drones a ship days if it was much more than a 1v1.

I can assure you that it's much better now :P

I wasn't cancelled, bro. It was renamed to Nexus: The Jupiter Incident. That's basically Imperium Galactica 3.

@KubusSc7 NONONONONONONO. The Nexus dudes might have taken the Imperium galactica 3 stuff BUT!
It is different games. Imperium galactica 3 was featureing more than just space battles.
Base building/planet mannegement. Colonizeing planets. A lot of research. A lot of playable races. Ship customization. AND SO ON.
The nexus dudes fucked it up : (
Nexus and IG3 might look alike, but they are indeed not the same
Rant over : )
