I disagree completely. I'm' not sure how you concluded your theory but the dumbell fly happens to be one of the two greatest exersizes for widening the chest. . And how, may I ask, are you going to ever have a well-rounded, proportioned broad chest without WIDENING tt. Bench pressing will only get you so far amd only thickens the chest. Ask Arnold Schwarzenegger in one of his bodybuilding encyclopedia books says that he personally gained a majority of his chest size from dumbell fly
wow when did i ever write that comment..hahaha. well the thing is that a muscle only grows from a certain point to another point. There's no way to move or widen the insertion point and origin of a muscle through a certain exercise. And besides, bench presses can only get you so far but really how far can you get with flyes? you can surpass 200 pounds on a bench press and keep progressing while on a fly its difficult to really even get to 40 pounds. a muscle only grows, you cant shape or form it
its a good exercise

the dumbbel fly is not the best exercise for chest growth. its a good rehab exercise but it shouldnt be used for strength training, if at all
