spec was high comp engine with je pistons, eagle rods, knifedged crank, blanced, arp everywhere, ported head, cams, twin 45s, dunnel manifold and ecu, lightweight flywheel, it revved to 8500 rpm.
engine has now been sold and going a slightly different route with it all ;)
Is that a common problem with the dipstick popping out ? Anyone have a solution ? I fancy a 2ltr zetec for my mk2. What spec you running to get to 192bhp ? carbs, manifold and exhaust i asume ?
Dip stick popping out IS BAD - same as oil cap blowing off. DO NOT BUY A CAR thats engine is popping dipstick/oilcap.
It's called piston ring blowby - meaning as the piston rises on its compression stroke the fuel./air slips past the piston rings and pressurizes the crank case/oil and thats what pops the oil dipstick etc out.
It'll mean new pistons, new rings, a rebore, probably a crank regrind oversize shells big and small ends - bottom end rebuild
@LIP15 you are right, and also wrong my friend, perhaps there is not a crank breather thats sufficient? just think that in the crank case the air is being pumped around EXTREMELY FAST at high RPM from the pistons going up and down, the air thats in there is going to try and take the easiest route of movement! which in this case will be the dipstick!
No it's not oil pressure, it's crankcase pressure combined with a bit of vibration. There's only a small o-ring holding it in place. I've modified mine by drilling a small hole in the handle and attatching a tension spring to the tube bracket. Then you hook the end of the spring into the small hole and it's job done! No more poppy uppy dipstick!
I've got an Mk1 Fiesta in the USA with a bad motor. How much would a nice motor that would drop in cost me ? Where would I get one ?
