Thankyou very much,I was given a baby years ago anhad it going for over a year till some mould infected it and i never knew how to start again. Youtube never existed then and i gave up trying to find new baby. Great idea, can't wait to have a new pet kombusha. X
just a quick question. it seems like the amount of liquid from the first/2nd videos to this third one is quite different in size. did you just brew up some more tea with sugar/tea bags/kombucha and add it to the jar during the 2nd/3rd weeks?
So, how long from day one (kombucha drink in tea and sugar, but NO mother) until you have and actual "mushroom"? I've heard 10 days to 2 weeks. I'm at day 10 with a white scum on surface (smells vinegary) but no "mushroom." What do you think?
that looks awesome. when starting from fresh, how often do you feed them? and do you feed them sugar only or sugar and tea. it would be great if you could do a complete start to finish video. even if it's only verbal. great job and thanx for sharing your work with others. downright awesome man
i bet its very rewarding growing it yourself as i am just starting my first batch and its been going for 5 days now.I find my self just staring at it and smelling it everyday after work watching it progress it looks and smells beautiful aha.I hope it works out Ive heard so many good things about kombucha, never tried it myself before so should be interesting:P
do u find that u have alot more energy 2 get thro the day now? and an increased feeling of well being? you look like your very happy :)
I have a ? my scoby has been in its jar for a week. Its has lots of brown fuzzy looking algae all over it. i dont know if its mold. im not sure because a new mushroom has grown on top. is it healthy or not? is it mold?
i just started one a few days ago, not quite a week... well, i'm not sure at the moment... anyway, my heat is off so i didn't know how well it would do but i put a heat pad underneath and it floated to the surface and it has a few bubbles underneath.
its amazing that people actually drink stuff with a "something" floating in it. I am trying to grow the culture before I grow the tea so I know it is alive or whatever. Any suggestions?
I used to grow these things way back years ago and have just started a new batch a few days ago. So back in the day I would show these things to people and offer them a drink and they would always find an excuse to get the hell out of there. I just think it is amazing how much money people are trying to sell them for now. If you grow them, give them away to the people you know, don't be a jerk.
okay i have a question. when you made the one with the multi-green, did the kombucha mother look like it had green bits on it? how would you be able to tell if it had mold because of it looking green? i made one with multi-green and it's really thin right now, but its green looking and i can't really tell if that's mold or the natural color. :/
If there is any amount of vinegar in the liquid, you should be fine.
Actual mold would be greenish to blackish in color and FUZZY looking! ;)
Mine did have some weird brownish clumps, but that was from the algae & spirulina in the tea. I think they disappeared after i transferred it to a new batch of tea.
I will try to do that! I just set up a new batch yesterday, this time my plan is to actually drink that batch. We will see! I get so darn busy I forget about it & then i have a jar of vinegar ;) LOL
Yikes! I totally get what you're doing there, but still! ;) I would try it, but the fact that it tastes like vinegar turns me off. I have such a sweet tooth... Any suggestions for making it more palatable? Or do you just kind of have to get over it and acquire the taste?
Depending on how long you brew it, it will change the flavor you get. The less amount of time the more sweet it will be ;) Still, you will always have a small hint of vinegar flavor, but it's really not that bad. ;) LOL
Before you bottle it put a tablespoon of fruit preserves in the bottle. Cap it and let it sit for 10 days to two weeks. Gives it a highly carbonated and slightly sweet taste.
You mean to drink the tea? Maybe several days. I think they recommend drinking 8oz a day. Or 8oz twice a day, i forget LOL
Mind sending me another friend request on the TwixtBetwixt channel? I deleted EVERYONE, cuz I was in a rage earlier. LMAO & I have my privacy settings on so no one can PM unless they are on my friend list ;) thanks
