@MrRazorblade999 Their IQ's don't have to be so high, but because they've trained, researched, practiced & competed for so long that Chess is their second nature expertise. If you were to mention to them seemingly obscure phrases like Tempo, Count, Opposition & Deflection; they would understand what you were talking about as this is their profession.
@widebody123 They were supposed to, but Fischer never came to terms with FIDE and that's when he resigned his title denying Karpov the chance to become World Champion in the traditional manner. And what a shame isn't it? That would've been a hell of a match and a history changer. Think about it. If Karpov had won he would've completely undermined the legend Fischer is today. And if Fischer had stayed and retained his title maybe Karpov wouldn't be as big as he is today.
What a great rivalry! These two guys were in direct competition for the best part of 2 years. We're really lucky to have lived through these times as chess fans. Not that i would even be good enough but I'd find it hard to sit across a chessboard from Kasparov. All that nervous energy and movement puts me right off. But the man's a genius as is Karpov.
@shinigamiartemis uhm never mind, in the meanwhile i found out what it really is. it's from "game over: kasparov and the machine", a documentary about kasparov's tournament against big blue. the music (and i think, the clip too) is from there. unfortunately it doesn't seem to have a track name, in the credits it only lists the composer.
I like the way images representing "The Turk" flashed up on the screen to symbolise the nightmare flashbacks Kasparov was having over "Deep Blue"; Karpov consulted for IBM when its predecessor "Deep Thought" was developed.
@SuperZadornov Please refrain from insulting America or Americans as a people. Every country has their own small percent of stupid citizens so stop the stereotyping.
he seems crushed... I love how the camera is more interested in Kasparov's long face than in Karpov's moments of history... and I like how he lets his feelings show... very honest
@WantedReward93 its a score out of 4 games karpov beat kasparov 2.5 to 1.5 in chess you get no points for a lose one point for a win and a half of a point each for a draw ...
Kasparov has nicer face gestures for me than Karpov, he is like actor, but.. now i see, he is probably nervous thats why he is making the gestures, and if he is nervous its worse position for him. In opposite Karpov looks very calm, so may be no wonder he won
@Tulpenkrem morphy didnt play against strong enough competition though hes probably the most brilliant player ever his style is amazing, he also had a weakness in the closed positions. Whats depressing is ill have to wait 4 years to be on that list and thats if the nerve damage in my arm gets fixed, i can beat anybody, its disturbing but then again u wont believe it until u see it so maybe i shouldnt have even said it.
Bobby fisher remains my idol, but here we see Kasparov, the founder of the modern offensive play. Karpov is undoubtedly the master, who contributed to the modern possition on the chessboard, set with brilliant defense.
kasparov is the best chees player in the history of humanity i wish be the middle of him , he also is my inspiration and the dream that i have : that all in the live is posible.
@Jakobinzrewolucji No human can compete against the better chess programs running on a garden variety desktop now...allot has changed in the years since deep blue.
to say im better than kasparov well im not worse.. if it was a more original game i would be better, why caz ive got wisdom on the level of socrates.. I can look at som1s face and tell how smart they are, in what area, ive even beeen able to guess peoples jobs on the first

@tjthegreat7 ive got permenant nerve damage stopping me, give me your life for a few months and ill be the one you'll be watching in the interviews not carlsen.. Mr great
I just love the Karpov-Kasparov games. Chess never been better and more interesting since the wonderful 1984-1985 matches I followed as a young boy. Also rematch in the 90th was great.
Personally, i think that Karpov is quite underrated in todays standards vs kasparov. They're about equal with Kasparov maybe being a bit better. I believe it was 23 wins for Kaspy and 19 for Karpov with most of the games being draws (i may be wrong).. That would make Karpov one of the best players in history
Also, someone please correct me if i am wrong but didnt Kasparov beat Karpov back in the day and this video is one of their rematches? Also I think Kasparov lost because Karpov had time to study his mistakes over the years against Kasparov and improve on them while Kasparov in my guess didnt study Karpov any more since he beat him and moved on to other competitors which in my opinion he should have at least kept up with studying karpov just in case he would ever want a rematch..
@Rhidgeback Kasparov won most of his championship matches with Karpov, never losing, but always by a hair (check out the close score between these two). Karpov is known to be disdainful of studying openings, so I doubt this is the reason he won the 2002 contest. Probably Karpov just wanted it more on this occasion (didn't Kasparov quit playing competitively around this time?).
Kasparov is very lucky to have had Karpov to play and struggle with, and to have an opponent with a diametrically different playing style too! If he had not, and instead had completely dominated all the GMs of his day, he wouldn't have been as good or as revered as he is today.
i think kasparov lost becuse he is stressed out . this was around the time he started getting into politics and all that and he wasent to worried about chess .i mean tho just look at him he looks so stressed out
Man, such emotion from Kasparov at 1:18 at 2:23. The first one makes me laugh because he has no clue what to do, and the second one makes me sad because he looks so disappointed...you can tell how much chess means to him.
Lol, editing Kasparov's face in blue dramatic movie-light at the perfect spot halfway through the clip at 1:24 just to make it dramatic for people to click the thumbnail.
In the past our teachers were always the grandmasters and worldchampions, nowadays our teachers are the computers. They play , solve and compose . So have a look at youtube.com :
This video is awesomwe, i mean, the final photos of this both chessplayers in this rapid match shows our human expressions on a losing or winning situations of life, in this particulary case on a chess match. its very hard do not shown a happy expression when we win, but, its very hard do not shown a blue or sad face when we loss... anyway we are still humans :)
The thing people tend to forget when it comes to Karpov is he tends to force players into Draws - He probably holds the most record for draws. Bobby Fischer owned him hands down lol

hi every 1 i have a chess programme every time i play i lose the game can some 1 help me how 2 set up the peogramme the name of programme is deep rybka 3 thank you very much .
i agree very much with "karpov's style is anti kasparov".
the phenomenon is also known in boxing, where a phenomenal boxer seems to amazingly loose his abilities against a particular boxer over and over again.
however karpov is not only the doomed boxer of kasparov he is also a school of chess.
Karpov's style is anti kasparov, Gary strings together ruthless attacks which if analyzed by a machine like Karpov put him in a slight positional disadvantage.
most sports requires hard-working character. My favourite example: football-Michael Owen
But chess is different. If you want to find out the best moves you need all of your sense. It's bit interesting that the natural moves 70% are good, but in a critical position there are more than 3 attractive movement possible.
@CE750 there is a new documentary out on the internet called genius ... i don't know what exactly but it's from BBC and its something with genius ... find it and watch , you will see something interesting about all good chess players (grandmasters more exactly) i promise you wont be sorry if you download it
Well think how Karpov felt when Kasparov basically jumped in the scene, kicked his ass, striped him off his World Championship status all in one.
This little defeat for Kasparov probably pales in comparison when Karpov gone home a loser with his dignity stripped from losing to Kasparov of his World Champ status.
Awesome video.

That's how you have to behave to be a winner, and that's why he's No. 1!
He went home, and studied his every move!

That's how much you need to hate to lose in order to become the best in the world.

Kasparov was terribly upset during the games and Karpov seemed too arrogant after each won game!

i agree very much with "karpov's style is anti kasparov".
the phenomenon is also known in boxing, where a phenomenal boxer seems to amazingly loose his abilities against a particular boxer over and over again.
however karpov is not only the doomed boxer of kasparov he is also a school of chess.
both are legend.
there are no loosers in chess ,both winn always.

what about when ibm cheated against kasparov?
i think the chess world lost there.

Karpov's style is anti kasparov, Gary strings together ruthless attacks which if analyzed by a machine like Karpov put him in a slight positional disadvantage.

u people think playing chess is talent or done by working hard?
sinancans 1 year ago
most sports requires hard-working character. My favourite example: football-Michael Owen
But chess is different. If you want to find out the best moves you need all of your sense. It's bit interesting that the natural moves 70% are good, but in a critical position there are more than 3 attractive movement possible.
dadus6 1 year ago
@sinancans Both, but working hard is major factor.
Kozaack 1 year ago
to become a champion we need both talent and work.
talented people don't see working chess as work but entertainment.
it is today especially important to start very very young and to memorise a lot also at a young age.
so the circumstances of birth (destiny) play also a role.
the same kasparov would may have become
a banana seller if he was an orphan child born in a simple village in the caribeean.
with respect to caribeeans of corse.
like football ,chess is also culture
sofianbelhedi 1 year ago
@sinancans 85% talent and inane ability, and 15% work.... this is why there are 16 year old Grand Master beaters... potential is within.

I'd say over the span of their careers, Kasparov has more than proven himself to be the better player.
