Was the Batcave deathrock ? Um. The early bands and movement were brilliant, the new bands copy cats. Look at Specimen now, there more inspired by The Cramps and Johnny Slut looks has changed.

I agree with "Um". The Batcave was a Goth/Wave/Avantgarde club. Most of the US Death Rock bands released their first albums in 1982/83. Death Rock came AFTER Goth Rock. The American Death Rock movement was strongly influenced by the British Goth scene. In 1980/81, Siouxsie and Bauhaus toured in the States. Kommunity F**K and Gitane Demone were big fans of Bauhaus, Joy Division, Killing Joke, Sex Gang Children, Virgin Prunes, Xmal Deutschland etc. People should read more interviews.

@baublemoon you mean deathrockers weren't at all influenced by Bauhaus, Joy Division, The Cure, etc. surely there seem to be a lot of similarities, especially to Bauhaus, but it's true deathrock grew out of LA punk bands like Flesh Eaters, The Germs, etc.

The beginning is not Death Rock either, it's original British Goth - it's film from the Batcave club in London in the early 80s - there was no such thing as Death Rock then. These original Goths don't really have any connection with the later 'Mansonites' that borrowed the name.
