@cardiffbluesgirl It's a matter of taste which you prefer but gotta say..Gloria isn't the singer Shelby is. She doesn't have the strength of voice Shelby OR Mel Carter have. Personally I feel this song works better when sung with a strong voice.

I was trying to point out that aside from taste, there are different aspects to singing as well. In an ever so polite fashion, not wishing to offend any Gloria fans, I was also expressing my opinion that technically speaking, Shelby is the better singer. ;)

But of course ultimately it always comes down to who touches you more emotionally as to what rendition you like best.

Personally I agree Elvis touched people AND he happened to be a great singer. The amount of hits and records sold unfortunately often has no correlation to singing

abilities.:( Or Shelby would be selling 2 billion as well. ;)

I recently saw Mel Carter sing this song on a TV PBS Fundraiser and he sounded as great as ever to my amazement. I have to hand it to Shelby it's a fine rendition, with a powerful voice and almost a duplicate of Mel's. They should release a duet I know it would be a top ten hit if not go all the way. What say you out there in You Tube Land!!.

I've known her all my life; went to grade school with her, and college right before this; Allison did a lot of backup for Shelby on tour around this time, and I saw them together a lot; I still see them both quite often, so again, don't tell me it doesn't resemble her lol.
