I'm surprised that Itchy and Scratchy was inspired by these cartoons rather than Tom and Jerry. Just when you thought you knew everything about cartoons....
Why couldn't they have included the full-length cartoons on the DVD set (by adding maybe just one more disc), instead of these crappy, truncated versions?
There was a Harvey Toon short about a martian who comes to earth, he's cute, and zaps things and, I think, people or animals with a laser gun and makes them disappear. He's not bad or mean. Does anybody know what I'm talking about? None of the regular characters, such as Casper or Herman, starred in it. It may have just been a one-time appearance. I enjoyed that short.
That's because the Paramount Noveltoons (you'll never catch me calling them "Harveytoons") were made by Famous Studios in the Paramount Building between on Broadway in Times Square. Arnold Stang was Herman and those "Western" mice were voiced by Queens native Jack Mercer, best known as the voice of Popeye and the 1960s version of Felix the Cat.
thats the voice from top cat topcat himself

Herman & Katnip are nowhere near as good as Tom & Jerry.

My kids thought the mouse's name was "HYMAN" because of the NY accent.

joshualiu1993 3 years ago
Katnip was eating baked beans with bacon. You know, typical cat food.

The beginning of the "Harvey Toon Take" segment was a brief opening music to Noveltoons.
