Actually some species aren't cannibalistic (mostly the smaller tropical species), but most mantis species don't differentiate between prey and members of the same species.

its fine, what is ugly about it, the best substrate is tissue or paper, its a good size as the mantid doesnt need much room to walk around or shed, and it is well ventilated, the only thing small and ugly is your damn brain

the other day im walking into work, and there is a bum infront of the place with a mantis on his shoulder. i stared at it as he walked by and said i could buy it for a few bucks. i gave him a $5 bill and it was mine. he came back a few hours later with another one, so now i had two. putting them together was a bad idea, cuz one killed the other. but i named the one that survived zorak. hes a badass.
