Video camera microphones do not pick up marching band sounds very well. This is true even with professional equipment.

A marching band that sounds terrific in person can sound quite sour on television. The video camera's mic simply cannot blend the sounds properly.

Even award-winning bands sound awful on video with inadequate recording equipment.
