Satch almost didn't take the gig with Purple. He had just come off his own tour when he was contacted and initially declined. After thinking about the possibilities for 24 hours, he called his agent and told him to take it. He is singularly responsible for showing these guys how to have FUN playing again!!!!! And was the perfect seguay to Steve Morse, They both fit Purple like a glove.

I agree completely. But it's worth noting that Satriani is a massive Blackmore fan. If you listen to his solos on 'Smoke on the water' and 'Highway star' from this tour (amongst others), he plays them note-for-note like Blackmore plays them on the record. Apparently, he insisted on keeping to the records out of respect for Ritchie and eventually turned down the offer to join the band full time because he felt he couldn't ultimately replace the man in black...love it

I can definitely tell that the people saying Blackmore destroys Satriani, are not guitarists. If you're talking about guitar parts that are hardest to play for other guitarists, Joe is the better guitarist.

But that's not what it's all about anyway. They're both incredibly original.

If "hardest to play" was all that mattered, then we'd all be talking about Allan Holdsworth.

he 1. exxegereates the fast licks thing and uses far to much artificial harmonics and stuff!

and far to much other effects.

Blackmroe is best them morse striani is 6. place (i know, that there are positions 3 4 5 left, but he's to much worse than the others i had to leave room...)
