Okay well today i decided to clean my fan in my vostro 1000 so i took it apart and when i looked at the cpu it had melted foam on it, what should i do to solve this problem?
What cd's do you have? My computer,just like your's.. it'll start up,then go to a black screen that says windows vista,I click on it,and it goes to another thing that says "repair startup recommended or start up normal.. then I click reapir,it takes me right back,then when I press start up normal,it'll show that light going,then on a black blank screen! - I need to know what cd will work for it! I hate this computer!!!!!

I have a Vostro 1000, too. I got it about the same time as you as well. It's a little different from yours, though. i definately do not recommend downgrading. Vista is so much faster on my lappy than xp. I cant stress that enough. Youve enough ram for it to run efficiently. i would suggest staying with Vista, but in the end, its youre decision.
i am running 4 gigs right now and the system recognizes it all and so does Vista. If you downgrade to XP, it only recognizes like 2.6 gigs or something like that.
yep. the max says 2 gigs, but vista recognizes all 4 gigs. right on the system screen. and i think youre computer will be fine with vista ultimate, but i highly reccomend more ram. at least 2 gigs.
oh. if you want to upgrade from XP to Vista Ultimate you should get the Windows Vista Upgrade Adviser, get it at the Microsoft website. You will be needing this to check your drivers and software if they can work with Vista.
yeah I admit vista has improved with all the updates and service pack but the thing I don't like is the shutdown its slow on both my laptop and home system and that has 8 gb of ram and a quad processor about 2.4ghz each, the start up is pretty decent and fast but for the shut down its slower than xp. I seen in windows 7 beta the shutdown was alot faster thats what I'm waitin for.

Ok, well, I got my Vostro 1000 today and it's great, except for one thing. Have you ever noticed that your speakers will make odd popping or crackling noises? My brother's Vostro and my Vostro both do it. Mine more than his. It's kind of annoying, though. It's a faint noise, but it's enough to notice and is a bit irritating. It might just be that Vostro's don't have great audio drivers and such.
So, I've figured out there will be a $35 sales tax. I'm wondering if I should spend the $25 on RAM or the processor? Is the 1.9GHz Dual-Core processor that much better than the 2.0GHz Sempron? Should I just stick with getting 2GB of RAM? What do you think? I'll be upgrading the hard drive to 120GB, regardless.

hey mate, i downloaded vista ultimate from a torrent and i upgraded my vostro 1000 and it actually worked. i first got my mate to try it and his laptop is 6 years old and it even worked for him. if you use torrents then i can tell you where to get the torrent from.
My DEll Vostros was delivered to me Mon, after I set it up I set a password to log in. But I fat fingered my password so I was locked out of my DELL, that sucked ass so I had to reinstall everything my OS, Driver etc took at least 5 Hours. So the lesson is when you set a password don't fat finger it.
The Vostros is great for the price, I'm a Mac user and you still need a PC, so I highly recommend the Vostros for a basic PC that gets the job done..
hey dumb shit all u had to do was go into safe mode (At boot hold f8) and then u will see at the log in an administrator login u can login and set the password

yes. you should definately get this computer. even if you need support, there is always the website, phone, and the drivers on the disk. so, i would definately recommend this comp. and get the dual core unlike me, but i am upgrading to 2gb of RAM and a dual core processor soon.

ummm, mine screwed up because DHL sucks at delivering. they had it at their depot the whole time, but they couldnt find it. we had to go down there and make them look for it. took bout 2 hours, but i got it.

Dood. can i just turn it on, get all my settings, and go on the internet. cuz I don't have another wireless card in my house, we have cable, and i live on a farm in Massachusetts. in the middle of no were.
the wireless card that comes with it is for regular internet. if u want a provider like a mobile phone then u might have to get an external, they might also have the option to have it pre-installed. i know there is a part on the customization page that lets u choose these options.

My Vostro had it's first Blue Screen, I'm not sure what happen but everything has been fine since..
The start up is definitely very fast, almost as fast as my Black MacBook at the same time it's a faster start up than my Vaio VGN-N150G

hey dumb shit all u had to do was go into safe mode (At boot hold f8) and then u will see at the log in an administrator login u can login and set the password

I am in India. Because this machine is not sold here.. I am planning to buy it in US through a friend of mine and bring it to India.. but I wont be getting service / support for this system here in India.
My question to you is.. would you recommend to do something like that ? I mean .. how often do you really need any kind of servicing in this kind of standard products.

yes. you should definately get this computer. even if you need support, there is always the website, phone, and the drivers on the disk. so, i would definately recommend this comp. and get the dual core unlike me, but i am upgrading to 2gb of RAM and a dual core processor soon.

At this moment i cannot afford either one of those yet. My tv has 2 scart connetion at the back and a digital input (yellow rca) on the side. Is there like a vga/dvi to scart adapter I can get?

cheers for the vid. I just ordered the vostro 1200, with the intel core 2 duo 2.0 ghz, 4gb ram and 160 gb hdd. I opted for xp though as have no need for vista. Cant wait. Should be nice a quick!

I upgraded my memory from 1gb to 2gb for the vostro 1000 and the laptop is still slow. do u do any certain things to make the laptop go any faster e.g. disc clean up.

i do occasional disk cleanups. my lappy is fast, idk why urs is slow. try putting xp on it, thats what i did and it is hella faster!

ummm, mine screwed up because DHL sucks at delivering. they had it at their depot the whole time, but they couldnt find it. we had to go down there and make them look for it. took bout 2 hours, but i got it.

hey Bstank i guess that this isn't my lucky month i checked my laptop and it was shipped early than expected but a problem is.... the carrier was DHL and if they deliver it, i have to be absent from school for one day to prevent them from going back to thier depot and having to wait for more than 2 hours to get it i have to sign it so they can make sure that it will not be get to other hands

the wireless card that comes with it is for regular internet. if u want a provider like a mobile phone then u might have to get an external, they might also have the option to have it pre-installed. i know there is a part on the customization page that lets u choose these options.
