  • This is why more and more Christians are now starting to think there's no such thing as hell (ex. see Catholics' interpretation of afterlife)

  • I'm Catholic but I think that only people who do something inhuman or some of the things that he said, you go to Hell, doesn't matter if you are Atheist or Catholic or some other religion. You go to Heaven if you are a good person, as in respecting other people, being moral, helping others, etc., doesn't matter if you are Atheist or Catholic or some other religion. Not just because you are a Catholic, it's a free ticket to Heaven.

  • @TheNiceGuyzTV If you feel that simply being a good person grants you a pass into Heaven; why do you adhere to a single faith?

I can never understand this with theists. They adhere to Christianity, or Catholicism, or any other established religion, and yet they claim that the basic teachings of their specific religion are false by saying that EVERYONE who is good will go to Heaven - regardless of their beliefs.

    Why such ramptant self-contradiction?

  • @TheNiceGuyzTV The problem remains that this theology says that God prescribes infinite punishments - in an eternal afterlife - for finite crimes - in a temporary material reality. This is, by definition, overkill, and I would say that it is immoral nonetheless. If damnation was not NECESSARILY eternal, then I might agree that it's a good idea, depending exactly on how the punishments work and how they are intended to induce reformation.

  • Scientific American magazine: Endings, changed me life. I went through the adult verson of knowing ther isn't a Santa. Fear of death became as just sleeping for eternity. It feels so good that I know that no invisible being watches me! Freedom!

  • The fact that the Biblical(and Quranic) God doesn't exist, doesn't mean nessecerily that there is NO higher, Divine oe even fountamental Power!

  • One of Matt's most concise and devastating refutations of the absurdities and psychological enslavement of religious dogma. Well said.

  • Oh my God, who...the hell...cares!!!!! People who debate over religions have way too much time on there hands. Who cares if someone belives in a God or not? Why do poeple have to start all of this crap to prove a point that doesnt even matter. DOES IT REALLY MATTER??? Athiest or Thiest...stop imposing you're crap and do something important.

  • @Deleau777 You must care a little bit. You watched this video, didn't you? And it does matter. If we can teach the next generation of humans to think for themselves, and if we can eradicate idiotic religious dogma that is hurting people's minds, then our time is not wasted. Stop wasting your own time sitting on a fence!

  • @uniraptor

As to your rant in the second half of the comment, I'll have you know that organic material (the only context in which I know of macromolecules) gets "miraculously" created from inorganic material all the bloody goddamn time. If you're trying to refer to abiogenesis (and being incompetent about it), it has several variants in which primitive life could emerge from Earth's early environment.

YOUR pet theory is the one that claims Adam came from mud. Do you get it already?

  • This is your best rant Matt. :-)

  • I decided to have a jab at god today via facebook. My current status reads "Some random guy in the street told me about this guy rod. Apparently this sicko locked half of his kids in the basement and tortured them their whole lives because they didn't love him" to which i followed up with "oops spelled the name wrong. Apparently the guy's name is God."

  • Nobody is claiming that the universe cam from nothing but theist and ''open minded'' people think that default position have to be a higher power or god that is argument from ignorance. Just because we dont know something dont make it right to make shit up. To quote Richard Dawkins, be openminded but dont let your brain fall out.

  • Here is an interesting question...does 'Think for yourself' ONLY mean to believe there is no God? What if one was to come to the conclusion (forget all this Bible and Christianity stuff, it's not relevant) that something, some force may have willed the universe into existance somehow, just as a possibility, for the driving force behind why it exists? I like to keep my mind open to chances instead of just saying "nope, that's impossible."

  • @dunkelfier If you are referring to matt's usage of the term. I'm pretty sure he's meaning stop quoting the bible/god and think for yourself. Matt was asking him what he was thinking and his answer was always "well god says". That's my general idea for thinking for yourself in this context. Have your own thoughts on it rather than just regurgitate what you've been told, whether you're a theist or an atheist think for yourself.

  • @youbetzler Anyone who says 'Well God says' is not speaking on behalf of anyone other than their interpretation of something. If God exists (and I do not deny that a God may possibly exist) then I believe anyone can realistically 100% speak on it's behalf. On that matter, I dislike any religious group that tries to block scientific advancement in the name of their religion. However, I don't deny the possibility that a God does exist.

  • @dunkelfier i'm not saying people can't speak on god's behalf, but the question wasn't addressed to god. It was addressed to the caller. Matt specifically asked him what he believes/thinks and he failed to respond without first using god. You can say i think this because the bible/god says it and that's fine. But if you just respond with well the bible says this or god says that. Then you are not thinking for yourself, you are only thinking what you are told to think.

  • @dunkelfier hmm. I think pantheism is what your representing. Do correct me if I am wrong. you should read the synopsis of, if not the whole thing, 'Why we believe in god(s): a concise guide to the science of faith' by j. anderson thomson

  • @tamu77095 I guess. I'm semi-Catholic only because I like a lot of what I've learned from going to church (the priests, believe it or not, actually do a good job of taking stories from the Bible and explaining how these stories can apply to real life and what can be learned from them). Still, some of what is in the Bible does seem a bit far fetched, but I'm won't completely denounce it, or say that nothing can be learned from reading it, I've learned a lot.

  • If some Christian groups are right and being a Christian once means you automatically get into heaven no matter what you believe when you die, I would love to be there when this guy dies. To see the "I can't believe it" look on his face and to hear God say to him, "Why did it take an atheist to get the message about treating people right?"

  • Personally, I have no problem with God, but my God is different from the Boogeyman of the Bible. God is the big guy in charge. When you consider the vastness of the universe, there is no evidence that there is no God. God is unprovable. I just like the idea that no matter how fucked up we are there is someone making sure that we don't destroy the entire universe.

  • Matthew 7:13 Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: 14 Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.

At the moment this guy is missing the whole point of the Bible and the message of Jesus Christ. You can hear the fear about Hell in his voice. Its a crying shame but he's not unique - Hell is full of guys like this.

  • @Textbooklies "You can hear the fear about Hell in his voice."

No you can't. Why is it you christians think you know what other people are thinking and feeling? And if he is afraid of hell why would he hosting an atheist talk show? Are you really that stupid?

  • @Textbooklies lol the bible isn't true. You know that right? It's like Santa Claus except you guys haven't grown up yet. The fear of death has driven you people to a truly psychotic state

  • Someone explain this to me... 681 views, 28 likes (I'm assuming atheists) and 4 dislikes (theists or those that just disagree or don't like the video)

Yet... there is only estimated to be 12-15% of people in the US who don't believe in a god or "spirit-force".

Where are all the free-minded people hiding? Why aren't their voices being heard? Why isn't their voice louder than ignorance? I just don't get it...

  • I understand the Gentlemen in this Video and would Like to DECLARE that I do NOT Believe that the Entire Bible was either inspired or written by GOD but written by Mortal Men Monks of Hebrew and Jewish Descent that implanted a LOT of their own Personal Beleifs inside BIBLE scripture, such as the Sadistic attutude of Burning and Sacrificing Innocent Sheep & Animals in the name of GOD. GOD with MORALITY DOES NOT Need any Innocent Animal or Human Tortured to get ANY self-satisfaction ,FALSE acts

  • i love how the video moves away at the end haha, its almost like the video maker's saying "ok you've gone on to long now" lol, brilliant speech tho

  • its scary how lost some ppl are

  • loke at the mirror, see how your body works by its own, behind that is your being, how beautiful it is! did you created? your fathers? no, they just made sex.

  • To the religious: your beliefs are as silly as a child's belief in Santa Claus and should ridiculed as such. And not just to be rude, but to show you that it is silly and childish to lay claim to ANYTHING without evidence. You do not deserve to be taken seriously about your beliefs in the supernatural because laying claim to something w/o evidence is not how a mature, rational mind should work. Peace

  • @tamu77095 well the layers we see in the world are better explained by a global flood like the bible records then they are by the geologic column which occurs only in a textbook. The "irreducibly complex" argument is a huge problem for evolution going any further back then already replicating organisms. There is no evidence supporting non life becoming life on its own one day only interpretations. I would submit to you the bible is a stronger model explaining origins. Read "Darwin's black box"

  • @JesusChristHardCore your stupidity is unequivocal. I am willing to bet that you know absolutely nothing about geophysics or even the basics of geology. Shit, I'm willing bet you haven't even read the whole bible. Here watch?v=sGSN7Kj-My0 in case you think I'm making false claims about your intelligence

  • @JesusChristHardCore You are an idiot. You are an idiot and a child for believing what only psychotic people could believe on their own. If you wake up tomorrow thinking that saying a few latin words will turn crackers into elvis Presley you are insane. But if you think the same thing about a cracker and the body of christ ...ur just a christian. You are an idiot making his best effort to be an intelligent thinker. Keep trying

  • @tamu77095 Just following my heart man. The difference is Atheists are on this die hard trek to prove that your so much smarter then to believe in God. Christians are generally, at least I'm not trying to claim I know God cause of how smart I am, I know God because God got a hold of my heart man. as for crackers becoming Jesus if you read the bible you would know know that is a metaphoric representation of Jesus sacrifice. You guys are the ones who say rocks transform into people :p

  • @uniraptor ' You guys are the ones who say rocks transform into people' You're gonna have 2 find me the paper that says that. Please find me that paper. Regardless I never said I was smarter than you. That much is obvious. That feeling 'in your heart' is epinephrine, its a chemically transduced signal that is sent from your cells (in and around your diaphragm)to your spine, to your brain. u interpret it as god, I interpret it as a natural bodily function.Stop filling up my inbox u piece of shit

  • @uniraptor 'You guys are the ones who say rocks transform into people.' ur gonna have 2 find me the paper that says that. Please find me that paper. • @uniraptor "as for crackers becoming Jesus if you read the bible you would know know that is a metaphoric representation of Jesus sacrifice" The Catholic Church disagrees with you; transubstantiation is not symbolic, but literal. You might not be Catholic, so it might not matter to you.

"You guys are the ones who say rocks transform into people" Are you f-ing high? Have you read this little thing called the Genesis? You know, that part where God makes a clay figure and breathes life into it?

  • @StrikaAmaru Ok so you seem to have made it pretty obvious that your disagreement is with the catholic church and some individuals there who think crackers actually become Jesus. If your argument is a few Christians are wrong about a couple minor things well good luck explaining that to God as a reason for not even trying to seek Him out when you stand before Him later. Oh and did you know about the supposed macro molecule that came from the primordial soup after it rained on the rocks? ha ha

  • @uniraptor The Catholic church isn't the only one to claim transubstantiation; the Orthodox one does too, for a start. Anyway that's not what bugs me as you claim; I was merely pointing out that yes, Christian doctrine really does say that. It may not be your version of Christianity, but between 38,000 different sects, there are obviously plenty of choices.

  • Some people are immune to logic.

  • I do not believe in God because he never "helped" me or influenced me in any way. I'm the one that I make my life full of happiness, I have total control of my life. I can choose to suicide right now. My mama gave me birth not God. How can I believe in something that does not exist? I'd rather believe in my glass of milk because it's there. I can see it, I can taste it, I can feel it, and it's so usefull when I'm thirsty. God is bullshit.

  • Would you go to hell if you wouldn't believe in Jesus Christ. Umm odds are yes, but that's up to JC. For example, there has been times where athiest's have died, met the afterlife and came back, turned there lives to Jesus and were saved. In conclusion, not believing Jesus Christ died for your sins = Hell, but we can't say you're going there because there may be a point in your life where you accept him.

  • @uniraptor

There is no evidence for gods friend...none. Matt hung up because the caller was being obtuse and refusing to think for himself. If you think you have evidence for gods, feel free to call into the show next Sunday. They have open lines and move theists to the top of the list every time. If you prefer not to present your evidence over the airwaves, I'll be glad to examine it via PM.

  • @LibertarianSara For you sir to say with confidence there is no evidence for God don't you need to be all places at once? Maybe there's some evidence under a rock you haven't seen. I think what you meant is as best you can see or have seen currently there's no evidence that leads yo to believe there is anything to this God assertion. Does that sound a bit closer? The bible say 'declaring themselves to be wise they became fools.' All I ever say is what I see leads me to believe this way.

  • @JesusChristHardCore Maybe there is some evidence under a rock you haven't seen. Classic lol. That's definitely worthy of being sent to the Atheist Experience.

Also, Justin, why are you posting on the same vid with multiple accounts? .... Classic Albertan trickery and arrogance right there

  • I actually find it interesting to have these sorts of discussions with people who, despite maintaining an ability to think for themselves, still don't conclude that there is a God that exists. It seems to me however a major cop out for so many atheist videos, not this one necessarily, to only pick on the dumb Christians as proof of no answer to some of the arguments. There are extremely intelligent people who take the position of a real biblical God. Why such rare mention of these?

  • @LibertarianSara Religion really makes me sick.. Im glad there are people who dont buy this religious crap.

  • @uniraptor well, you can just present your evidence. I'm sure Dillahunty has refuted your rational reasons on some episode of the atheist experience.

he hung up on the caller because there was no discussion to be had. There was no point in continuing to let him talk.

  • @creejay Hmm. TO say your sure the evidence has been refuted just be careful there. Never quit perusing truth. Know what I mean? If I'm right and Jesus loves you and has a good plan for you, you know all this stuff I talk about is true and amazing then I bet you would think thats worth knowing about. I get that you see it that way but none of us know everything. So careful if you don't believe because you suspect someone has refuted it. See what I'm saying?

  • @JesusChristHardCore thank you for your sage advice. In case you couldn't tell, it was mostly just a flippant remark.

But really, I think he probably has addressed any argument you can bring up since you seem to be evading actually presenting any of your points/evidence. I always have an open mind (after all, I used to believe in God and attend church. I must have an open mind if I've gone from that kind of indoctrination to being an atheist!)

  • @creejay I'm not avoiding presenting anything. I keep pretty busy with my life but as soon as I can I'll begin making more videos and honestly presenting my points in defense of the Christian faith and biblical explanation of the world as I see it weather I be right or wrong. It's pretty tough to have a good go of it in these small message boxes so I'll have to get on the video thing again soon. Richard Dawkins said no one knows how life began. So that makes evolution sound like faith to to me.

  • @uniraptor "I could ruin him in a theological debate I suspect."

Matt would destroy you and make you look like a fool.

  • @Iconoclast444 you know you might be right. I suspect his show is mainly watched by other atheists just hungry to hear anything that supports their position of no God weather its good arguments or not. Atheists often seem to completely mock the bible without having a fair look at understanding it. Who knows how it would go If I called in. But If its not crazy long distance I will in the future give the show a call and talk to the guy happily as long as he's interested in talking to me. :)

  • @uniraptor uhh, you just like to be told what to do...your morality is cookie cutter robotic and "Absolute" you dont seem to have a problem with an Absolute authority that nobody has a way to put in check over abuse of power, which in the bible the god abuses its position and contradicts morality with malice....It would suprise me if you didn't believe in dictatorship as the best possible political theme, as long as such person can 100% back up their threats and keep their promises heh...

  • @MadMAn12gauge Hmm. well surprise I don't believe in a Dictatorship. I bet we'd even get along well unless you restrict your friendships to those who agree with what you say completely. (if thats the case then maybe your a bit dictatorish yourself) And I suspect we may have an interesting discussions about weather or not God is at any point Immoral in the bible. I believe God is just in everything He directed Biblicaly and that there are some things not understood and quickly dismissed here.

  • @JesusChristHardCore actually no....i dont like anybody at all...it would be impossible to get along with me, i fake it....and in reality everybody disgusts me.....feels good to get that off my chest.....and no it isnt because im an athesit...even if i believed in a god i would wanna dismember him just to see his eyes bulge out from the pain....trust me there is no god, no god would allow a person to go through something like that....or would he? :) sounds like my kind of god

  • @uniraptor lol u stop arguing with someone (or rather don't even start one) if you find that the opposition party is immune to reason and rationality. ur bible is bullshit and you obviously haven't read it if you'd be willing to defend the sadistic moral teachings that are in it. Whatever your reasons are for believing in this god of yours i would bet they r no better than reasons for believing in Santa Claus or Poseidon

  • @uniraptor You good sir are a moron, and the world would be better if your kind had never existed....

  • @Babs44sun Really? So you'd enjoy deciding what people are allowed to believe and then execute people who don't believe what you've decided on? I don't know you but I don't think you have any idea how ridiculous a statement that is.

  • @uniraptor No I wouldn't say anything like that...I'm not religous, executing people for their beliefs is your territory. It would just be a better world if we didn't have the Dark Ages, if medical science was allowed to progress, if religeons were not factionised and kept killing each other because they both think the other is wrong. The world would have been a better place if "God" or "Allah" had not intervened. But apparently they did along with2000 years of warfare, witch hunts and genocide.

  • @uniraptor wow you have messed up logic..

  • Haha ... "If you can't think for yourself, no wonder you believe in a God!"

    So true.

  • @jazzx251 Well to be fair there are many people who do a poor job thinking for themselves who are atheists as well. This is rarely mentioned because it isn't very convenient for the atheist argument which is often reduced to personal attacks rather then the actual answer to many problems with any model that excludes God and doesn't use imagined hypothetical scenarios to do so.

  • @jazzx251 I could just as easily say, "If you are to in love with your lustful and selfish desires in life to look beyond yourself then no wonder your an Atheist" But to be completely fair though I do believe that statement sums up many Atheists I wouldn't even claim that all Atheists fit into that category. I accept many have thought it through and concluded that there is No God. Now why is it so difficult to grant that many Christians are intelligent individuals who have come to Know God?

  • This was WONDERFUL and enlightening.

  • OMG, well said, Matt, as usual.
