  • thats pretty cool

  • wtf am i fappin to?

  • So that flame when the steel hits the oil is burning oil? Is that not harmful to breath?

  • I need to oil harden a sword. Need professional service. Are you able to do this kind of service? Also please give me an idea of how much service like this would cost?

    Regards

  • @agoldek We need to know material type, straightness hardness required and a phone number/name to contact or call Jeff at 323-583-8711 for quote

    Chuck

  • @groves28 i need my penis treated. material is flesh, and is very straight when its hard. can u give me a quote Chuck?

  • Man.......there was about a 60 second delay during the transfer. The company I work for, used to have equipment like that. The parts that were quenched here, must not have a very high hardness requirement. The company I work for would never allow us to perform an operation like that without PPE. That guy had no PPE at all. Reminds me of the old days.

  • LOL not sure PPE would do much to help you if any part of that thing made contact with you. Unless the PPE is designed not to melt and catch fire. Pretty cool stuff though.

  • he's wearing gloves:P

  • Holy God !!!

It reminds me of like the end of the world, do you know what I mean ?

  • Hello!

You said you are using endotermic atmosphere. Do you have to purge it with nitrogen before opening the furnace cover so you prevent explosion or just open and let it burn?

Also, dont the pieces oxidize in this 20 sec high temperature in contact with atmospheric air?

    Thanks a lot!

  • Exactly what phase are you trying to achieve here by this quenching process? I suppose you get mostly martensite from this process, which isn't very good for much things because of its brittleness, maybe you could try and cool it slower to achieve beinite because it has far better toughness, how much carbon does that steel have?

  • AMAZING vid!.. thanks for sharing... very "cool"! haha

  • ok, i got one for you. i need hardened gears(steel), syncros(brass) and selectors(steel). for an rsx transmission as they tend to blow up, and no one makes carbon units.

  • Just for info, our equipment can handle parts up to 24 feet long. We perform the heat treat on the fuel line for the external tank, on the shuttle.

  • Actually, it's not really dangerous. However, each furnace operator is trained. Both classroom and on-the-job, then given a written exam. Following that, they are supervised over a period of time, before being allowed to perform on their own. Glad that you found the video interesting.

  • That looks like an incredibly dangerous job. Call Mike Rowe!

  • What are you dipping the steel into.

Is this a hardening process of some sort? please use laymans terms as english is my second language.

  • The parts are being rapid cooled (Quenched) in oil to attain maximum hardness. Later they will be tempered at a lower temperature to reduce hardness and relieve stresses, which will prevent cracking.

  • Why is the oven so deep? Is that a salt bath? .. just curious cause an oven that deep and thin usually has stratification issues without additional fans or air movine systems.

  • The furnace is deep so we can process bar stock and parts up to 24 feet long. It is an endothermic atmosphere, we are able to carburize or introduce a neutral atmosphere for the various carbon and alloy steels. The furnace uniformity is well within AMS 2750 specified high temperature +/- 25 degrees F.

  • thats fuckin sick so hot it's cool

  • wow amazing video! i wonder is there anything that can be done to supress all that smoke?

  • video

  • AWESOME!! SO HOT IN THERE! SHIT! COOL!
