Saw Robert Ellis Orrall with his fantastic band on Nantucket in the early 80's. I remember this song ... Flashback... true talent... there was another group called Orchestra Luna with Randy Roos... fantastic time for music..
@DaveWollenberg Carlene Carter had (is it has since she is still living?) I Fell in Love...Every Little Thing and idk some other song I am forgetting at the moment.
Glad to hear music like this again from the 80's. Wonderful song that I havent heard for years. Unfortunately stuff that we hear from the radio glorifies drugs, hate, sex, materialism and satanism. Really sad music world nowadays.
Carlene Carter has had one than one hit. Every Little Thing and I Fell In Love ...also there are so many of her songs that should have been hits but never got noticed...
I thought I was the only person in the world who knew that information. It debuted at 35, climbed to 33, peaked at 32 and then fell off the chart. I had a strange childhood.
@joeymac2 Hey, Joey, it helps to have a copy of the Billboard Hot 100 charts of the '80s, by Joel Whitburn. If you're interested, why not order a book for yourself. Record Research's number is: 262-251-5408. God bless!
one of my favorite "lost hits" of the 80s.....even though it only got to #32 on the Hot 100 chart in May of 1983.....its a fun song to listen to...sort of reminds me of "Stumblin In" by Suzi Quatro and Chris Norman
Hey inside...I agree with you about this song deserved more chart time in 83, but dont you think you should be investigating 9/11's 'inside job', rather than surfing You-Tube??? LOLOLOL
You know, I'm thinking this might have worked better as a Carlene Carter solo - she has a remarkable voice, at least on the evidence of this track. His shared vocal works fine as a foil here but vocally the stage is hers.
This is a polished, pristinely recorded and beautifully executed pop track. Very reminiscent of Fleetwood Mac Rumors period or her husband Nick Lowe's "Cruel to be Kind."
This summer's up .....and this sums, You in my oreword, tact-word tact, we're view...Am I mis-cen....Am I miss scene?...Alec Baldwin, do you miss you in Mass?
This song and video are awesome! It is a pitty that Carlene Carter did not have a better run. Even today she better then just about any female country singer out there. I guess if you are over 40 Nashville see you as a has-been
I agree. She is a very talented vocalist, American Idol alumni could learn a thing or two from her about restrain and not drowning out the music by lamblasting the vocal. Carlene rides the arrangement with understated coolness until the climactic chorus.
How does a song this outstanding fall through the cracks while crap like Journey's "Don't Stop Believing" hang around infinitely? There are greater tragedies but this one is sad enough for me.
This song is just a far better recording. The song is better and the interplay has far more emotional honesty. Steve Pery may be a better singer than Robert Ellis Orrall, but Perry is certainly not as good as Carlene Carter. Whatever talent Steve Perry has as a singer is obscured by material that just lacks bite and resonance, at least to these ears. Journey to me is just like one of those power 80s bands that made a bunch of successful (but bland) hits.
@911insidejo8 I thought you were joking. The lyrics are so trite and just bad...like this is a mockumentary. "Im not about to watch you walk away...I thought I'd walk away from you someday" LOL!
Kind of besides the point-some of the best songs I've ever heard, from Fatboy Slim's "Praise You" to
Madonna's "Music" have inconsequential, throwaway lyrics.
When I hear a song, I'm listening to the whole picture and whether the song conveys the mood it intends to and you don't have to write a lyric like Springsteen, Dylan or Lauryn Hill or sing like Aretha Franklin in order to tap into the mood of a song although it is great if you can.
I've always thought that everything about this song was great. I still have the 45. Like 6dlrwht said, I could never understand why it wasn't a big hit. Oh well, it's always been a big hit to me.
I never thought I would ever hear this song again! This is one of my favorite songs fron the '80's. It's too bad most radio stations have completely blocked it out of their minds!
Awesome Song. I remeber when this came out in the early 80's. I couldn't understand then ( or now ) why it wasn't a bigger hit. Wish i could find it on itunes.
I agree so much they are both so great I love this song it is very odd they are not the biggest thing in the world every one knows Johnny Cash but you say Carlene Carter and they say whos that
dosen't get much better, or more true!!!
