No....the play at second should be a "wide open" play whereas you only have to make sure the ball beats the runner. Your close play, percentage wise, is a much closer play at first base.
The only reason you want to be closer to the play at second is if you see the throw is going to be bad and YOU know the play will remain at second but invariably, in the higher levels, even if the ball is bobbled at 2nd, the play at first will BE EVEN CLOSER. ~Bugsy~
I agree wish they teach this. but don't you wanna be just a bit closer for the call at second???
