He sound better live cause who the hell wants to sound like there studio version on the drums. if you really listen to drummers they all change there style while playing live. Dave is awesome because his speed and technique, nowadays there's a few people that still admires a drummer because of soulful playing.

Lars plays with soul and heart alright, but he doesn't actually play most of Metallica's songs correct/close to the studio version right when he plays them live. Granted, ive recently noticed he's played their songs a little better live, probably because he's been touring with the big 4, which probably motivated him to be better. but when your band is one of the most popular on earth, you'd think he'd work on playing the songs as closely and as best as he can.
