  • i have every episode of robotech on VHS.

    a gift from my dad.

robotech the greatest action series cartoon next to dragonball z IMO

  • 0:16 lol you think this would be on CN today in 2012? when i saw that all i said was DAMN!

  • What is the Song?

  • spring/summer of 1998...so good

  • OMG! my childhood :`)

    Tears of NOstalgia*

  • Now THIS is Motherfucking Toonami.

  • What is the track used in this ? I must have it!!!

  • My very first anime show!! xD

  • The memorys just come rushing back when I see these

  • Gundum may be more popular. But Robotech came first. :) One of my all time favorite anime. Thanks for uploading.

  • @KoopaNinj haha, no, it didn't. The original Gundam came out in 1979 and and Macross, the oldest of the bunch, wasn't until 1982.

  • @mouseynezu I thought Robotech came to America first?

  • @KoopaNinj

You know those bootleg toys from China that are basically rip offs of American toys? Robotech was a bootleg rip off of three different anime: Super Dimensional Fortress Macross, Nadesco, and some other anime all haphazardly tied together. So basically, we kids back in the day got scammed out of a good story.

  • @TomDracoRyu I don't really know what those are but ok. lol, I really thought the 3rd Gen of Robotech was superb. The one with the Invid, the Biker Mechs, and Shock Troopers. never saw much of the 2nd gen. and 1st gen was epic (The Zentradi). all the key plots came from those 3 anime?

  • @KoopaNinj

The so called "1st gen" with the Zentradi is Macross. The "biker mechs" and "shock troopers" came from Southern Cross. And the other gen probably was Genesis Climber MOSPEADA. Three completely different anime, that are completely unrelated storywise, were tied together haphazardly to make Robotech. You should watch the original Macross, at least. Much better than Robotech.

  • @TomDracoRyu I agree, but most of us at the time of airing didn't know the difference.

  • @captainpike332

Which is sad because all three by themselves are great, but Robotech throws that out the window.

  • @TomDracoRyu TomDracoRyu Ironically, however it was Robotech, that got me to seek out Macross, which in turn got me truly hooked on anime especially those with mecha.

  • @TomDracoRyu That's not right. The macross story is there. Macross wasn't being continued at the time anyway. What you get is some alternate universe with the second and third show. We didn't get the story of southern cross or that other one. And maybe those are good and its a shame but we got the best translation of its time of Macross.

  • @TomDracoRyu macross, southern cross and orguss.

Needless to say the most badass scenes you see in this promo are from macross

  • @KoopaNinj actually no it didn't lol.

the first Gundam came out in japan in 79, macross came out in 82. Robotech came out in the early 90s as an edited version of 3 series taped together, Super Dimensional Fortress Macross, Orguss and Hyper Dimension southen cross

Maybe your referring to the order in which they were introduced in america. In which case yes Robotech did come first,

  • @MrInuhanyou123 Yeah that's what I meant.

  • @MrInuhanyou123 I was 15 when Robotech came out. It was 1985. It's the reason that I got into industrial design son!

  • @demodular So it was mid 80s huh? I guess that goes to show us what censors could do in those days. Edited up the arsehole, way worse than 4kids!(of course i'm not talking about the "family values kids of editing)

  • @MrInuhanyou123 I wrote a paper on children's TV violence when I was a kid :) I grew up at a good time, IMO, 70's 80's toons and the rise of Videogames. But also these gave rise to much paranoia. Most toons on American TV in the 80's were made to do one thing, sell toys. They were in fact, 30 min commercials. Many children's rights groups put pressure (forced) on the toy companies to have a percentage of educational content in the shows, e.g., GI Joe PSA's. I knew this and still had fun

  • @demodular

Lol the more ya know, and knowing is half the battle.

(no seriously, you educated me on that, thanks)

  • i grew up watching fat tom and his eventual upgrade form. whos THIS GUY??

  • @nynosix He's Moltar the very first Toonami host, he's also a space ghost villain

  • I miss toonami. Damm u CN!!!!

  • the good old days huh i miss them :( but i have netflixs :)

  • lol man i that beat ues to scared the crap out of me as a kid.

  • Anyone know the name of this song?

  • All robotech episodes r on netflix streaming

  • @tsa0706 or on a 3 DVD box set, which i bought at CD Trade post today, "HELLLLL YEEEAAAAAAAHHHHH!!!"

  • goose bumps... I has them

  • Never again will we see epic shows on CN in this post 9/11 nightmare we live in. At least we still have the internet (for now).

  • This show looks as EPIC as the original Mobile Suit Gundam

  • It's too bad that the same people (Harmony Gold) that dubbed the original SDF-Macross to what is known as Robotech, are the same people who has legally kept the continuation of the Macross story from being shown in the U.S. The creators of Macross has recently released "Macross Frontier," which shares similarity to the original SDF-Macross which we all loved during the 80s (Love triangle, transformers, music, saga, etc.). Unfortunately, our kids will not have the chance to view it thanks2 H.G.

  • I've never even seen a single episode of Robotech and yet I get chills every time I see this promo. I don't want to be that guy who comes in spouting "HURR TODAYS TELEVISION IS SHIT COMPARED TO BACK THEN", but goddamn... it really WAS a special time.

  • ahhh, I miss being 5 years old

  • still one of my favorites from when I was kid in the 80's

  • I loved this opening. Where can I download the beat.

  • OMG!!! Robotech!!! This really takes me back...

  • Robotech was my Gundam before Gundam was released stateside in the late 90's and Wing in 2000. The two sagas will forever remain in my heart.

  • that

    was

    bad

    ass

  • Oh yes it did way waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay back when it first started ^^ RIPtoonami it was a GREAT run thill they killed you MUAWWWWWWWWWW I hate what Adult swim has become more BS less anime

  • I never knew this aired on Toonami.

  • @Haktsu Yep. Robotech was in the first line-up.

  • @EATeezey The first line up was Thundercats, Random 15 minute show (like Space Ghost or Herculoids), Voltron, (some other 15 minute show), then New Johnny Quest.

Sailor Moon, Robotech and eventually DBZ all came along later. Unless by "first line up" you mean "Moltar Days"

  • What's the song called?

  • DAMN I DIDNT WATCH THIS!!!!

  • Nostalgia: I just had an epic dose of it right there...... o.o Thank you for uploading these happy moments of my childhood.

  • I haven't seen this show since I was like 6 years old, this stirred up a lot of memories. The thing that sticks out in my mind till this day is the nude girl showering scene in one of the first few episodes haha

  • @KaeruthePaladin FYI to you and everyone else who see's this promo. All the Robotech episodes are legally on Youtube in HD. They do have commercials, but they are at least set up as Robotech Episode 1, 25 min. and not Robotech Episode 1 part 1 10min crap.

  • @gungriffen They're not in HD.

  • @gungriffen

Thanks man I did not know that, I'll have to check some episodes out when I get some free time.

  • thats the new intro? WTF?

  • my whole childhood right here, Toonami was fucking great. It had its own little spot on CH where CN didn't even matter no more. As if Toonami was its own channel, man I miss being a kid right about now.

  • toonami made my balls drop @ 10 years old

  • I would do absolutely anything if someone could find the original track to the background of this vid. At this point after looking so hard for it, id pay someone to find it

  • glad this was on netflix :)

  • @cnwanna thats how I found toonami I was like this is the best thing I ever seen epic

  • Do you know the name of the music being used?

  • Okay i gotta watch Robotech now* Runa away*

  • Oh man this one takes me WAAAY back. What i remember most about this one was how freaked out the Zentradi got whenever they saw a man and woman kiss each other. Now as part of my "reliving my childhood" im enjoying the remastered edition of Robote... sorry, Super Dimension Fortress Macross. By the way, does SDF-1 stand for "Super Dimension Fortress One"?

  • @Indignation211 SDF-1 =Super dimensional fortress 1. yup, it does

  • looks a little olde as far as the animation goes, but as long as its not "I'm going to announce all of my moves before I make them because it makes me feel awesome in a way that's really lame" it's okay with me.

I want to watch more anime, but it's somewhat hard to find anime that's good. Thankfully theres Ghost in the Shell. So I guess I want to know, is this as good, or even close?

  • @AdmiralGreenscreen Robotech is crap in comparison to the original, which is "SDF-Macross." If you liked Ghost in the shell, I think you'll enjoy "Macross Frontier," which came out with a TV series (2007), and two part movie version (Macross: The false songstress (2009), and Macross: Wings of goodbye (2011). If you're interested in retro anime, I'd suggest "Macross: Do You Remember Love?" (1984), which was the highest budgeted anime of its time and ranked as one of the best animes created.

  • @808jspekeg6

you fool. the garbage you speak can never touch miltary science fiction classics like ROBOTECH or MOBILE SUIT GUNDAM:0079

  • Man, when this came out at 2:00pm every weekday in 1998, I was hooked on it's rich story.

  • I grew up on this show, loved it

  • Just as awesome as I remember.

  • Oh man this is clearer than it was when I saw it on my ancient tv years ago

  • Great Intro

  • Imagine growing up on happy 'edu-tainment' animation in the United States. One day you flip to CN. You hear a bad-ass beat.. For 30 seconds you see robots machine-gunning other robots, military tactical-jargon playing out a struggle across the void, a man DIES onscreen and a woman morns him. You see a nuke go off as a pilot looks on in horror. you hear the challenge "LETS GET ON WITH IT!" , the show of force and the epic, implying line "Main Cannon ready to fire". Toonami was very, very special

  • @cnwanna That was how i became a robotech and Later Macross fan right there the exact way you described it ha ha.

  • @cnwanna I remember explicitly this promo and that dude getting blown up... I was 9 y/o at the time... and it really seems like a gentle introduction to the evils of the real world.. I just feel sorry when this edutainment generation finally wakes up and sees that nothing is sacred and no one is safe.. the real world sucks.

  • @cnwanna Toonami can never be replaced, and never will. Greatest animation block on Cartoon Network.

  • @cnwanna I flipping love the old toonami.

  • @cnwanna Toonami was the ONLY program block with guts enough, to show this kind of awesomeness. Nothing will ever replace Toonami. nothing.

  • @cnwanna Couldn't have said it better myself!! You Sir, are WINNING!!

  • I like to play this intro just before watching the show on net-flicks. Oh sweet nostalgia.

  • just goes to show, where there is a will there is a way, good job on remastering.

  • AAAAHHHHH!!!! I miss this shit more than I can admit!!!

  • Thank you for remastering this intro...it is the only Robotech intro that matters. lol.

  • seriously..one person unliked this video...i guess that person has a brain tumor

  • I have tis whole series on DVD :D

  • I remember as a kid I when I heard this song, I know a promo was coming on for something new and fucking sprinted as fast as I could into the house just to get to a tv.

  • This is my fav show of all time and I started watching it on Toonami. Thanks for uploading this because its super nostalgic.

  • I NEED THIS SONG LOL SLIM FIND IT!

  • Slim, I don't suppose you have any inside info on this beat?

  • I was too young when this came out to appreciate it and now too old with too little time to watch fuck life.

  • before heero yui, and before armuro ray, their was rick hunter!

  • @XINKAI you mean SDF Macross, Orguss and Southern Cross badly taped together <_<

  • @MInuhanyouM It's macross, southern cross, and Mospeada. Not Orguss.

  • @ZadNostrom orguss was taped into the movie, sorry my mistake :P

  • great work

  • I was 4 when Robotech came out back in the 80's, still one of my favorite classic animes

  • good job and thank you for doing it.

  • Comment removed

  • the intro alone is why i have now seen over 200 animes and still going saw dis intro at like 5 and was like wat is this stuff i must watch it im 18 now and in college partyyys go college =)

  • Pure Badazzery

  • you should try to meesh/edit in the audio from the Tom era midnight run promo, it's the same music/sounds but with better audio quality.

  • AWESOME! I have the whole macross saga on DVD :D

  • Real good work. Too bad you can't do anything about the audio.

  • Hate to be "that" guy, but would anyone happen to know where I can find the song/groovy beat?

  • I have the first Macross Saga on DVD, though I got it over 5 years ago

  • The first anime *Robotech* adapted, *Macross,* is on DVD, but it could be out of print now.
