That is false. The majority of Puerto Rico want's to remain the current status, and if we go back to the context of ''Estado Libre Asociado'' witch it means ''an independent Republic allied with the US Government'' That means that the majority of Puerto Ricans wants to be Independent. I know that we are a colony, but that's what they have make us believe. Look at you kneeling under the US Government pleading to be part of what you are not. PR and the US are two nations completely different...
PUERTO RICO STATEHOOD NOW NOW NOW & NOW! taken out of the pro-independence Puerto Rico, are TERRORIST. INDEPENDENCE NEVER OK, NEEEEEEEEVEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEERRRRRRRRRRRR. RECORDED DAMNED.
bendito comparar esta mierda de video con el de Puerto Rico A Nation le queda grande... this is the worst video to be a response to the Puerto Rico a Nation video... this sucks big time... PR will never be a state.... NEVER...
This video is way better than the one that talks about the independence for Puerto Rico.It is based on true facts and proves that PR is way more close to the statehood than to an independence. So que viva Puerto Rico, que viva 51st state, que viva! And something that the minority Popular Party calls "estadidad jibara" is just stupid and don't make any sense because PR have been a part of the US for more than 100 years.Statehoood don't changes anything it just an official country status for PR.
@apresesco One thing I am trying to figure it out, why in that Hell are so many Colombian and Venezuelan getting involve in Puerto Rico affairs. You have to worry about your country no mine. We are born American citizen; we don’t need to cross dangerous border. I want to ask you something else why are so many Colombian living in Florida? Your people already surpass Puerto Rican in Florida. If you hate America why are you writing in English? You are a hypocrite moron.
ARE YOU FOR REAL. WHY THE HELL WOULD OTHER LATINOS BE ENVIOUS OF PUERTO RICO. They dont give a fuck about puerto rico.Because they have ther own country. Puerto rico can and will be a country. Ther are more benefits to independents then statehood, which by the way Puerto rico already as a statehood goverment. And statehood is not working. NOW ITS TIME FOR INDEPENDENTS. Imagin if the US stayed or became a part of the UK. America wouldent be what it is to day.
@Tiburone15 Why Cuban is doing the same as Dominican? Why central and South American rather cross the dangerous USA border and expose themselves to criminal in Mexico who sometimes raped the women and children and kill the men to cross to USA? Are people in Puerto Rico reading the international news or rather watching the soap operas and comedies? Don’t blame USA for our responsibility; we are responsible for our island to make it better no USA or any other country.
@Tiburone15 Can you give me some of the benefits that we will acquired by been independent? Then why Mexican rather pays thousands of dollars and rather dies in the desert trying to get to USA? Why Dominican rather takes a raggedy raft and exposes their life to danger to get to Puerto Rico and then jump to USA?
@Tiburone15 Why are the Haitians suffering right now? If they are independence what benefits they have now? They have a big island twice the size of Puerto Rico with a lot of resources like Cuba why both islands are in Poverty and political turmoil? Cuban lost their freedom to a horrible dictator and Haiti one dictator to another until the island is a cesspool right now.
@Tiburone15 Both are beautiful islands with poverty and suffering, they didn’t know how to manage their island the same will happen to PR by the way I see things. Don’t compare America independence with Latino America independence because it is two different mind set, while North America concentrated into it people freedom and wellness, Latino America concentrated into dictatorship and their leaders getting rich.
The US won't adopt a hispanic country as a state who's CRIME IS HIGH, TOO MANY ARE ON WELFARE, MANY PEOPLE ARE ALSO DROPPING OUT,
Puerto Ricans who want STATEHOOD are also DELUSIONAL lmao you think the US wants an island that is poorer then the poorest state, the highest crime rate and to top it all off all those gringos in power look at us like a bunch of SPICS! sorry that won't happen either...we're stuck in limbo
Gente!
@Tiburone15 Do independentistas read the criticisms in the internet about us? Do you read every comment in you tube video? Go ahead and read negative comments about us by many Latinos especially Mexicans. Just take a look at Puerto rico video and see Mexican talking shit about us. Every fucking video either is a Mexican, Dominican, Centro American or Cuban talking shit about us. Are you blind or just don’t want to see?
@Tiburone15 I had Mexican telling me USA belongs to them as soon they take control we are going down. These people envies grow even more than ever because our status while they have to expose their life to danger, we just take a plane work or study in USA with no problems.
@Tiburone15 Do you know what I consider stupid? The Puerto Ricans who let their mind be poison by other Latinos and don’t want to see the reality, we are bless right now and we want to fuck it up for every Puerto Rican because a group of people been paid by communist government or envious Latinos who want to see us fuck up like them.
Puertorriquenos miren lo que les esperan si le hacen casos a los independentista nada mas miren el video este y os comentario que favorecen el video en youtube Venezuela Grave Documental Guardianes de Chavez
The mainland "Americans" who support Puerto Rican statehood usually don't understand us in any way. The United States is NOT going to allow Puerto Rico to maintain Spanish as the language of communication in it's "51st state". That is a fact and it may sound nice that the United States is a "melting pot", but let me be the first to say that that is complete BS because there is a lot of hate towards anyone who is different in the United States.
zacub, how would you feel if your nation get's invaded by a more powerful nation??The invaders try to change all aspects of your culture to theirs, without your consent. The invaders take control of all your affairs without your consent, and control it so it can benefit them the most. They send your people to their wars without them having to do nothing with the problems leading to the war (without any representation). The invaders devaluates your currency, takes away your best land, enslaved your...
@ElEsprance-...people in the field of agriculture-which was the most valueable industry at that time-,monopolize your economy. The invaders do all sorts of experiments, from bombing your beautiful offshore island, contaminating your beautiful rainforest,to experimenting with the lives of your people, like if they some kind of joke. But this is not my main point,my main point is how would you feel if under all these circunstances, your people considers the invaders heroes, and start losing their...
@ElEsprance-...self-esteem and faith, into thinking that they can't do nothing without the ones who invaded them.Would you think that when you grow to an adult, you won't be able to progress on your own without living with your parents??
@ElEsprance First off the people who did all that shit are dead or going to be soon. Second if Puerto Rico wanted independence it could've gotten if enough Puerto Ricans wanted it. Several former territories have been given independence so the idea Puerto Rico is enternally enslaved to the U.S. is nonsense. Third if enough Puerto Ricans want statehood they are going to get it. It's really up to Puerto Ricans to choose their fate and statehood is looking likely in the future.
@cwa1984-1.I know that all those people that hurt the island are dead.2.I also know that if Puerto Ricans wants independence, that's what they should get.3.I don't think enough Puerto Ricans wants statehood, ando even if that is the case, they won't get it.It's not just what Puerto Ricans want,U.S. congress is the one that will grant that dream, and i doubt they will do that.
@ElEsprance Congress will do it because they won't have a choice in the matter. Not doing it would be political suicide both nationally and internationally since officials have claimed wanting Puerto Ricans to have self determination. Not to mention the huge hispanic vote in the U.S. that they would lose if a political party did not grant statehood if Puerto Rico did vote for it.
@cwa1984-What you mean that congress won't have a choice in that matter?Congress have the right to not allow P.R. as the 51st state if they don't want to.I do believe Puerto Ricans should have self-determination,but this issue has 2 sides,Congress being the most important one.It is not a political party that will or not grant what Puerto Ricans want,it's congress.By the way,are you Puerto Rican?
@ElEsprance Legally they have the right but politically they don't at this point is what I'm getting at. That includes both parties since they both have said the same things over the years and neither one is going to risk losing votes to the other one by not supporting statehood if Puerto Ricans vote for it.
@cwa1984-Yes,they have the right. There is no such thing as "politically."Both main political parties of the U.S. should not worry at all about what would be the votes from people in P.R.,it's not a difference at all.
@ElEsprance Actually it is a huge difference since both parties have been saying Puerto Ricans have the right to self determination over and over again they'd literally look like complete shit. Although both parties are getting used to that considering how bad they run the U.S. in last several years.
@ElEsprance hmmm...pose that question to the taino. oh wait, the spanish wiped them all out. otherwise, could have asked them how they felt about spain invading (what we now know as) PR and enslaving them before wiping them off the face of the earth.
@dljone9-I wouldn't need to ask that question to the Tainos because they rebel against the Spaniards,so based on that, one knows how they felt.Let me tell you that the Tainos are not yet wiped off the face of the Earth. Most Puerto Ricans have Taino blood and physical features in them, plus the taino spirit exist, that's why there will always be independentistas, until independence is achieved. So,don't try to play the inteligent guy, because you just showed you don't know how to use your inteligence.
Good day Mr. cr2-2010. I will start telling you that I may not know how to write English Like you said , but I have two pentions and and one more on the way in 2012 . What do you have to show for to protect your love ones. Like always a person like you needs to go back to school to learne the facts of life. all you know is profanaty and thats not shooling or class but trash and who waist time with trash. and if you are so smart , why dont you have a created and interesting conversation
this is all bullshit, PR should not be a part of the US not because of racism or intolerance but because the people who want statehood do not know what they are voting for, or the consecuenses of statehood. They have been tricked by smart buisness minded people who would really gain allot from statehood, not because it is what is most convenient. The same thing hapened in the island of Hawaii and now they are not a nation, not even a state really just another turist trap.
@cwa1984 At people in Hawaii do not bitch about federal funds as some Puerto Ricans.
Puerto Rico is not even a state now, and people are already blaming Washington D.C. for the financial crisis. If D.C. is to blame, why do you Puerto Ricans even bother having a government in the first place?
You want your own governor, fine. At least have the brains to hold that future governor for the state's wellbeing if the statehood is granted.
You Puerto Ricans are responsible for Puerto Rico!
Look at your history first before taking action! Your people did not wanted to become part of the United States. Even peacefully asking for indpendence from the U.S. They was ingnored. Even going into the brink of civil war and protesting against U.S. occupation. It was supressed. (At least what I've heard) Look at your history and see pass the properganda before making a decision.
@DeltaEagle7700 Puerto Ricans did not want to be part of Spain either however it happened. It's been over a century now the people who oppressed Puerto Rico are now all fucking dead or damn near. Times have changed stop living in the past.
@cwa1984. And what makes the U.S. any different then Spain? It still took Puerto Rico too. And some Puerto Ricans did not wanted to become part of the U.S. either.
@ttiiyy. Hmm. Yes. Maybe because Puerto Rico is not that much of inportance to the U.S. compare to Hawaii. The U.S. Government is afraid. From my perspectice, since they know that they stole Hawaii, what they fear the most is my country (Hawaii) rising up for independence. As our people, along with the rest of the world know about what happen to Hawaii, America's superpower reputation will come crashing down. Because Hawaii is most inportant to the U.S. military.
@ttiiyy Oh boy! You are definitely pathetic, this is the same thing apply to Puerto Rico. What does an Asian know about it? You should mind your own business and do not intervene in Puerto Rico and Hawaii affairs. The same goes for you DeltaEagle7700, we are part of USA whether you like it or not.
@ttiiyy. I'm not going to jot down every detail. I know why. Why would any country do the same? China is not an expanstionist. And no longer is Russia. And even if they were, for what?
@DeltaEagle7700 China is not expansionist because they can't go north because they would have to fight russia and they probably lose that war. They can't go west and conquer countries in the China Sea or Pacific Ocean because alot of those countries are part of ASEAN and they aren't going to put up with China's try conquer them. They aren't going to try and take on Japan because they would immediately be at war with the west. They also can't go east either because of India.
@cwa1984. And why would they too? To tell you something, the Kingdom of Hawaii actually had treaties with Japan. Not to mention a possible treaty that both the King of Hawaii and the Emperor of Japan could have signed in forming a "Federation". Or something like that. Not to also mention one of their Emperor's was going to possibly marry one of our Princesses.
Don't become a State Puerto Rico! Its not going to make much difference! The U.S. is still going to own you! Once you become a State, you CANNOT get out of it! Consider your option for independence if you can sustain yourselfs! Don't become part of a country that doesn't care for its people and that we in the Kingdom of Hawaii refer to as a "corrporation."
We in the Kingdom of Hawaii can relate to something like this. There was NO option for independence in the election
@DeltaEagle7700 You in the STATE OF HAWAII can fuck off. This is not about the STATE OF HAWAII this is about Puerto Rico. Times have changed the idea Puerto Ricans are going to be slaves as a U.S. state is a fucking joke considering they can leave and return to the island any time they want to and this would change one major thing though. It would allow Puerto Ricans the ability to control their own fate as they would have a voice in Congress.
@cwa1984. "FAKE State of Hawaii". As what we call it. But that's another story. Who said anything of Puerto Ricians becoming slaves of the U.S.? Futhermore, even by a territory, Puerto Ricians can always leave the island. Statehood won't make much difference.
@DeltaEagle7700 It gives them real representation in Congress and the ability to vote for the President something people living on the island never had before and that is a big fucking difference.
@ttiiyy Everything including federal funds is a factor for Puerto Rico deciding if they are going to join the United States or not. As far as them leaching federal funds goes we already have several states particulary well skilled at doing that already. So before you go screaming about Puerto Ricans wanting statehood just to get a hand out maybe we should look at state's already doing that across the country and stop them from doing it before complaining about Puerto Rico.
@cwa1984 You make a good point here. Why will we need another SHAMELESS state? The country is not in a good shape, so why add more burden on taxpayers?
@ttiiyy Shameless state? Let me ask you something, why are you in almost every Puerto Rican forum talking shit? From now on I am going to be your personal shadow. What business do you have with us? We are going to be the 51st or remain the same? No independence like you and other envious Latinos want us to be. Sorry dude get a life if you don’t have one the same goes to DeltaEagle771. This is Puerto Rican affair and it has to be resolve by Puerto Rican only.
@ttiiyy Why don't you ask yourself the question on why YOUR Latin/ Asian country is in worst shape economically than Puerto Rico? To me that seems more intelligent because it has to do with you. Why do you get into these videos just to talk crap about us? It's pretty pathetic.
@ttiiyy My other reply to you didn't apparently get posted on youtube. Anyway my point in that post was you can't bitch about Puerto Rico being a potential burden state since we already have so many. Also you can say it will be a burden state since Puerto Rico would get a lot more investment after becoming a state so their economy would most likely improve the same way Alaska and Hawaii did after they became states.
For those that are not deep in to political isue, Ones you live the Island, you have the right to vote in the United States all the way up to the White House. Am a living proof . I was born in Puerto Rico and Joint the USMC since 1969 in VIEQUES, PUERTO RICO. Am still active in the military and am a member of the Republican Party. I still have PRESIDENT REGAN , capain Identification Card with Hes signature on it
@fivemarines and you still cant write correctly in english.
i smell a rat, if america could erase the indians, think how easy it will be once you are a state, think on this they are giving you 10 billion dollars to rebuild the economy should you become state...what? how will you pay it back? i don't know of one bank that will give you money with out collateral, with that kind of money the US will own puerto rico, lets face it that's the only trade off when dealing with politicians. this year democrats give money, next term the republicans want it back.
Si Puerto Rico se hace independiente no perderias tu ciudadania porque por ley de Naciones Unidas todos los nacidos en PR bajo la ciudadania Americana tendrian doble ciudadania automaticamente.
Puertoricans who want independence are dumb shits. I am a born and raised puertorican. Where the hell will you go with a Puertorican passport? If i had a puertorican passport I wouldn't even have a job right now as I live in Asia. The only reason why I even have a job is because of my American Citizenship. When I am asked where I am from, I say I am from Florida, because that's where I lived for 4 years before coming here. It saves me the trouble of explaining puerto rico to other people.
@regis200006 Then you aren't a real Puerto Rican like the rest of us. We don't deny where we are from and you are an idiot.Of course that with the current political status a Puerto Rican passport wouldn't get you anywhere because it DOESN'T EXIST!!! If Puerto Rico where to be independent then you could have a Puerto Rican passport and citizenship to work anywhere. Have some pride in your REAL country not the country that treats our island like it's toy. People like you make me sick!
I live in puerto rico and I want statehood Now it is time for a change, and the mayority of puertorican now want statehood, HR 2499 in the senate then to Obama to become the bill into LAW
@josuerodriguez1981 why do you want statehood, why do you think puerto ricans like me are to stupid. to run our own independent nation. would you really rather be called an american then a puerto rican? are you not proud to be puerto rican. I dont want statehood, the mayority of puerto ricans think so to.
@Tiburone15 If the majority of Puerto Rican don’t want state hood then why don’t you ask USA for independence? USA is bound to our people decisions by international laws; if you want independence ask for stop wasting USA money and taxes on this commonwealth shit. I am a white Puerto Rican born I love both USA and PR. Puerto Rican are not capable of running our independence nation. Do you know why? Let take a look at our corrupt politicians stealing our own wealth.
@Tiburone15 The FBI and CIA had to clean our patio because we didn’t 130 corrupt police officers even Military and others protecting drug trade and criminals. Do you feel proud of being Puerto Rican when every time in the news one of our citizen fucks it up big time? Let’s talk about the doctors in Haiti good job, what about the biggest drug dealer in the Caribbean they called him Jose Figueroa Agosto - dubbed the Pablo Escobar of the Caribbean.
@Tiburone15 The island had become a cesspool of drug dealers and criminals our own fault because instead of trying to make our island better we wait for USA to solve every problem that we caused. What about the New York Ricans adopting the ghetto ways instead of the white people ways.
@Tiburone15 We don’t deserve that beautiful island that GOD gave us, because we are destroying it our selves. Sorry buddy we have to admit if wouldn’t be for USA and the effort of our beloved Heroes who gave their life to protect what we have now.
@Tiburone15 I am talking about our Wars Veterans and the Real Puerto Ricans who made us proud by representing our island with dignity and courage. The only future I see for Puerto Rico if we continue with our closed mind is another Cuba or Haiti even worse Mexico.
@loveangel71 America does not deserve Puerto rico ether. America is not the good country people think it is. If america cared about puerto rico, then they would have done a lot more to help our island. AND YES I AM STILL PROUD OF MY PUERTO RICAN CULTURE. Something you have seem to have forgoten.
@Tiburone15 In the contrary I am proud of the old school Puerto Rican who really represents our island and put our named in the map. I am not proud of the fucking new generation who put down our named. Fucking drug addicts and criminals, we always involved in some scandalous shit.
@Tiburone15 At least we have a few Puerto Rican who are really trying to represent us in a good manner like our Doctors, scientist, Soldiers, lawyers and business people, artists, etc. For example Judge Soto mayor and others. America was trying to do more but what happen? Every time they try, they end up been the bad guys. In Puerto Rico they hate the FBI, CIA and any law enforcement agencies when they try to put order in PR.
@Tiburone15 Our own fucking police bunch of criminals who didn’t care about his people protecting drug dealers who are poisoning our youth. They were letting others criminals roam free hurting our citizens. In the Airport baggage handler introducing drugs and stealing tourists goods from their suitcases, they don’t want to travel PR anymore prefer other island sinking PR in to poverty.
@Tiburone15 I don’t really blame USA for not making PR part of the union. A lot of disgraceful tecatos bothering tourists in San Juan I almost grab my Gun to blow his head of. In my opinion I see a very Dark Future in Puerto Rico if they ever want to become independent. In Puerto Rico we are not able to handle our island much less if we become independent. Whoever doesn’t agree with me is a hypocrite because this is the truth and nobody can’t hide the truth.
@Tiburone15 Beside how can you help an island when someone tried to help and they resist been help. This is like trying to help a drug addict or borracho, because they never admit having a problem. Also how can you help islanders who brains had been washed by others Latinos and suspicious people who want us to become like them.
@Tiburone15 Just take a look at your neighbors Domincanos had been migrating to PR for ages then jumping to New York using PR as a bridge to USA. Mexican thousands migrating every fucking day claiming USA belong to them. What about Cubans rather die in a raft than going back to Cuba, Even many Mexicans in the internet claiming when they take control of USA, they are going to kick every fucking PR back to PR.
wrong song!!!!! get the f out of here with this! Disillusion puerto ricans! I am Puerto rican and am totally against them 110%! I do not want to lose the culture we have! We are foreign to the people of USA we always have been so lets get real! We have a different culture and our history does not have anything to do with usa so the US last concern is to make PR part of ithe 1 millions problem it already has! There are enough problems that the USA is focusing on

all the puertorrican people, that live in Puerto Rico, and want statehood. should move to USA... and leave us, the true puertoricans to gain independence of the island
This is about the civil rights from 1964. Every State has its own economy and contribute to the economy to the whole Nation. We contribute to the nation in federal taxes whoever is a federal employee, and everybody else pay social security, medicare, We were in all the wars defending the constitution and the freedom. It is time to fight like in the 60' for our civil right WE EARNED IT. IT IS FOR A TIME FOR A CHANGE.
Puerto Rico should just become a state aready. They have chosen to remain a commonwealth for a long time now it makes nosense for them to be their on nation since are histories are linked. If they haven't lost their culture by now they are not going to. Also Puerto Rico being an island helps with this matter since they are not connected to other states that could influence them. It's time for them to take their rightful place in the union.
@cwa1984 That's your opinion. Fact is that Hawaii is a series of islands, and they lost their identity. Of 1,295,178 habitants, just 80,000 are Hawaian natives, the rest are asians, latinos, germans, americans, etc. 10% of its inhabitants are drug addicts. Immediately after statehood, we would still feel puertorrican th first days, weeks, months, even years; but, our nation wont survive only on those generations. Others will come that will feel more American than puertorrican.
@yeyc77 First Puerto Rico is not hawaii. Second the U.S. during the early 20th century did try to wipe out Puerto Rico's culture and failed to do so. What makes you think they'll suceed now especially with so many different immigrants from latin America living in the United States who won't tolerate it at all? Also you already are Americans by being U.S. citizens so what is your point their? You'll finally gain the same rights as everyone else and this is a bad thing because?
@cwa1984 Same shit, different hole buddy. "Also Puerto Rico being an island helps with this matter since they are not connected to other states". It happened to Hawaii, and its and island thats my point. And I'm not saying they will directly wipe out our culture, but rather the process of statehood. You're admitting they tried to wipe out our culture, so what makes you think I would like to be part of such a country? Pshh please. I have self-respect pal.
@yeyc77 What happened to Hawaii was the result of America and Europe competeing for power in the Pacific. That's not the case with Puerto Rico. Also I mentioned the U.S. in the early twentieth century before WW2 before me and you were even born yet tried to destroy Puerto Rico's culture and it did not work. Those people are all dead now and America has changed since then.
@yeyc77 Your arguing about shit that happened generations ago like it happened yesterday and could happen today which is complete nonsense. So if you had self respect for yourself you would be honest with why you don't want Puerto Rico to be a state instead of making up bullshit excuses.
@cwa1984 I have self-respect because I refuse to continue to b under the control of a tyrant nation that hasn't let us progress. I have self-respect because I've seen hundreds of cases of cancer on our little islands Vieques and Culebra, and how children are born with deffects because of all the radition left behind by the Marines when they left and have not taken responsability. I have self-respect because I honor our history and we cannot forget the attrocities commited by the US against us.
@yeyc77 The last part is a weak argument because you would have to include the atrocities Spain commited as well. Anyway if you don't want to be part of America and think Puerto Rico would be better off as it's own nation than vote and encourage others with same views to do so when the next referandum comes out which will be sooner rather than later. .
@yeyc77 However do realize that not every Puerto Rican wants Puerto Rico to be it's onw nation and that their is a good chance it will become a state regardless if you like it or not.
@cwa1984 I do realize that and its a shame. I would like to think how would you feel if you were still a colony of England. You guys love freedom and even kill innocent people in its name. See this in the perspective of the American Revolution, people like me are the whigs or patriots and people that want statehood are the tories or loyalists, except the patriots are outnumbered. Whos side of the American Revolution would yo be with? Our hisoty is a very complicated one, you wouldnt understand.
@yeyc77 The problem with this argument is the U.S. has given Puerto Rico several chances of becoming their own country. The majority of Puerto Ricans have reject that and becoming a state and chose to remain a colony. The difference here between the American revolution and Puerto Rico's status is America tried to work things out with england and that failed so we went to war. With Puerto Rico the U.S. has given them the choice to decide their own fate.
@yeyc77 So you description of you being a freedom fighter comes off as bullshit. You might not like what the others want but that's the way things work. The majority of Americans were pissed off by the British Empire most of the loyalists left for Canada. You don't have the same situation going on so it's a bullshit comparison.
@cwa1984 Those plebiscites have been iniciatives of PR not the US, they couldnt care less. Study our history profoundly if you care so much for us and you will see Puertoricans have been lied to by our political leaders in order to get them to vote for something they dont even know will be benefitial for them. Understand not everyone here in the past recieved an education. Uneducated people are easy to decieve. This generation is gaining conscience and is more educated.
@yeyc77 If it's only uneducated people voting for Statehood than how do you explain people with college degrees voting for it who know that leaders from all sides are full of shit to some extent? Also why is statehood gaining ground as well?
@cwa1984 Im not saying all of them are, most are very smart people and have really good reasons why statehood is better, but most dont even know why it is better. Some vote for statehood just because their family believes in it. They just go on repeating what our political leaders say, and when you asked them they cant explain. That's why im telling you, learn our history, specially on politics. People misuse the right of sufrage. I could PM you my reasons and tell me what you think.
@yeyc77 I've heard the reasons for and against both statehood and independence. Not being rude here but I doubt you'll send me any new information that will change my mind but if you want to take this to PM's that's fine with me. As far as politicians lying and people following them blindly that has happened throughout history. It's most likely going to continue in the future as well unfortuneately.
@yeyc77 Formal education has little to do with it. People are sucessfully lied to because they want to believe the lie. Just look at the crap the US congress has perpetrated on the people, both educated and uneducated - and there is a mixture of those who believe and those who know they are being lied to. By educated do you actually mean informed - anyone can be informed if they chose to keep their eyes open and their brain engaged.
@cwa1984 I have self-respect because I know the truth and I learn from the past. I have self-respect because I cannot be sympathetic with a country that sent a doctor named Dr. Rhodes to experiment with us injecting cancer cells casuing the death of many people and then admiting it and saying we are the most nastiest race in the world, we should be exterminated. The US goverment took him away and sent him to Panama to continue his reaserch. So STFU, you are no one to talk for us.
@yeyc77 Again before me and you were born so what does this prove exactly? That America did shady shit in the past? Wow I never knew that! Again you seem stuck in the past.
@cwa1984 As long as they are willing to pay as much taxes, most Americans won't complain. You know it's a money issue, not the culture issue. Texas is a state where it's famous for Mexican cuisine.
It's the money, dude! Let's just cut the crap. Some Puerto Ricans want statehood because of FEDERAL FUNDS. Well, guess what, California is already bankrupt. The money is running out. These people can keep dreaming!
@cwa1984 Easy to say that isnt it? Have you ever been to Puerto Rico? No I dont mean on vacation in San Juan. As a born and raised Puerto Rican, I can easily point out the cultural differences that have come about just in the last 15-20 years. Personally, as sad as it may sound, San Juan can't even be considered part of Puerto Rico anymore. It has been so Americanized and poluted with American interests that you'd be hard pressed to find something that is actually Puerto Rican.
@cwa1984 What sickens me even more is that there have been so many Americans and American companies that have moved to Puerto Rico for business reasons, who they also favor statehood and will most ilkely be allowed to vote in the ridiculous plebiscite coming up. In my opinion, they should not even be considered because THEY ARE NOT the ones who have something to lose. They ARE NOT losing their culture, their heritage or their language. You can keep your citizenship and your welfare.
@presidente006 Businesses go where there is a profit people have rubbed off there culture on one another for thousands of years that is completely normal and expected. However Puerto Rico becoming an American State does not automatically mean the Island is going to be stripped of all it's own culture that is bullshit. If Puerto Rico loses it's culture it's because people did not perserve it and that would be there own fault not people from the outside deliberately destroying it.
@cwa1984 You made some good points. If Puerto Rico loses its culture it would undoubtedly be MOSTLY their fault. I did say mostly. That is exactly ONE of the reasons why I am against statehood. I live in Miami and I personally see it everyday. So-called Hispanics who know nothing about their culture, their history and very little of their own language. I do not want that to happen to Puerto Rico. Cultures DO rub off on each other. That is one of the main traits of the PR culture.
@cwa1984 Our culture is made up of Spanish, African, Taino and now American. Im fine with that. But we would obviously be the minority when compared to the much larger American public. Whose culture do you think would win there? Certainly not ours.. (NuYoricans being a perfect example). They feel that waving a flag once a year at a parade makes them Puerto Rican. But ask them about Bomba. Theyll think youre talking about a bomb. Ask them about Plena and theyll think thats how you say "plain".
@cwa1984 I do not want that for my island. I want my culture preserved. I want my language preserved. It has been decimated over the last 112 years. And it will continue to do so if almost half of the Puerto Rican population stays uninformed about what would be the actual outcome of Puerto Rico becoming a state. Ask an "estadista" why he is. His first and only reason will be because he wants to be able to vote for a President. Why vote for a foreign President when you can vote for your own?!
@presidente006 Would the President really be foreign if Puerto Rico was a State? A future President could very well be from Puerto Rico how would that make him foreign exactly? Using the same logic you are Spain was foreign than yet you wish to perserve the language? I'm not mocking Spanish here or Puerto Rican culture I'm just trying to get you to think about what you are saying and how it's not consistent. Also you are ignoring how much power you all would have in congress.
@cwa1984 Yes! The Presidente would still be foreign. Obviously not in the traditional sense of the word since, God forbid, at that point we would be a State due to the fact that we decided to tuck our tails between our legs and ask the US to fix the problems were not willing to fix ourselves. Im sorry. I wasnt raised that way and I dont live that way. I fix my own problems and Im responsible for my own issues. I dont live off of mommy and daddy and I certainly dont ask for "Big Brother's" help.
@cwa1984 A President from Puerto Rico, EXACTLY! Thats what it would be. Not a PUERTO RICAN President, only a President FROM Puerto Rico. That identity would be lost. The pride of one being PRican would be gone. In time, we would be just another gringo. I work damn hard for my son to know and appreciate his history and culture. But I will only live for so long and eventually, that knowledge and appreciation will be filtered out through the generations. And what then? And as far as Spanish....
@cwa1984 Brother, dont be so quick to assume that I am like MANY other Estadistas, Libreestadistas and Patriotas. I HAVE thought about the "irony" of how I wish to preserve Spanish but not induct English as my "official" language, since Spanish was not Boriken's official language. Ill explain as best as I can and please, despite your personal feelings on the subject, understand that this is also a matter of pride in my Spanish heritage as well as cultured principle.
@cwa1984 The original language of PR was obviously that of the Tainos. From there is where we get the words Juracan/Hurricane, Barbacoa/BBQ, etc. American's have indeed adapted some of these words (obviously). Luckily for us, our Taino heritage was able to withstand SOME of the onslaught of the Spanish intrusion, even after 400 years of them trying to change us. The thing is that due to technology and the fast moving world we live in, we have lost more in the last 112 years than we did in the
@cwa1984 400 years that Spain was in control. And this trend has and will only continue. In the next 50 years, I can only imagine that we will lose even more. I dont want that. I want to preserve what little we have left. Thanks to the weak ELA status that we currently have, we have been able to hold off some, although very little, of the American onslaught of our country, heritage, customs and language. I have a great deal of respect for the US, but I dont feel that it is what PR should have or
@cwa1984 needs. I truly believe that Puerto Rico CAN fix it's own problems and move ahead in the world without someone else holding our hand and doing it for us. It seems like a fantasy to those that have already lost faith, but it IS doable. Take a look, for example, at our native music (Bomba and Plena). I went to a festival in Cabo Rojo a week ago and although the festivities were amazing and the music was great, there was a VERY small crowd. I guarantee you that if it was Daddy Yankee or
@cwa1984 Jay-Z, the crowd would have been enourmous. Why is that? Its not because you cant dance to B&P. Its not because the music isnt enjoyable. Its because Hip Hop has swallowed what used to be known as "El Periodico del Pueblo". Instead of communicating through music and gatherings, the needs and goings-on of the people, we prefer to listen to nonsense, disrespect and cursing with a hip hop or dem bow beat. I LOVE Reggaeton. I really do. But it does not speak whats in my soul and it doesnt
@cwa1984 remind me of the various bloodlines that run through my veins. Understand brother, that I love my country (PR). I love what she represents for me, my son and millions of Puerto Ricans worldwide. And I dont want her to become, just another State. Please tell me, WHERE in America, you have a Massachusets Day parade? Where in America do Americans fly a Kansas State flag? Where in America does someone PROUDLY say that they are from Iowa? I respect other's opinions but I want them to
@cwa1984 understand that MORE is at stake than just a simple vote for an American President or representation in Congress. Two things that we have already earned millions of times over through what we have provided for the US as well as the many servicemembers that have served and given their lives for a country that does not treat them as equals. As a free nation and due to our history, we can be the bridge between Anglo America and Latin America. We just need to embrace the opportunity.
@cwa1984 I apologize for the length of what I have written. But I wanted to fully answer your questions as well as to show anyone that reads these comments that I am not just another lunatic crying for Independence (either through insults or violence) and that I have justified reasons for my opinions. I love my country and I want Borinquen to be a brother to the US, AS WELL as to the other Latin American nations. Not an enemy and not siamese.
@presidente006 No need to apologize you did explain yourself well. I disagree with you but I respect your reasoning behind your beliefs. Also if my comment came off as insulting I am sorry for that. The reason why I stated that is in the military I've had friends who were Puerto Rican who were against statehood because of the Spanish language yet when I posed the same question I did to you they gave me a deer in headlights look.
@cwa1984 Just let me keep my identity and my island. Im a Veteran of two tours in Iraq (2 years). I was injured during my second deployment and I DO NOT regret my service. On the contrary, I am very proud of it and I have made some life long friends. But I think that enough Boricuas have served and died for America's causes for us to have purchased Borinquen's freedom. You can take my pension and my citizenship. Just let my people keep their island.
@presidente006 Well having done a tour in Iraq myself I'm glad you made it home and while injured you are doing okay. As far as your people keeping the Island or not from becoming closer to the United States is up to them. I can't cast a vote in this decision all I'm doing is supporting it whether you agree or disagree with me about Puerto Rico becoming a State or not doesn't decide the issue either way. That is up to the will of Puerto Ricans in what they want as it should be.
@cwa1984 And lastly, for all of the pro-statehood Puerto Ricans...If you all want to be part of an American state so badly, then why dont you MOVE to an American state. No one will fault you for that. Leave Puerto Rico to those that still love her and appreciate her.
PR is not part of US, it belongs to US. Puerto Ricans can vote for president, just move to any of the 50 states and you can vote for one! Statehood for $? It will never fly No state will want to give up a congressman or senator to accommodate a PR! Ha ha. Statehood will never go. Even a big number of Hawaiians are remorseful that they became a state.
I was born & raised here in the US.I am "Pro_English" & I would gladly welcome Puerto Ricans statehood. But this isn't the time, & this isn't about race. This is nothing but a dirty corrupt progressives ploy to remain in power. They could care less about you as people. They just want your controlling votes in Washington. Pray for us all. The devil is on the rise. God Bless America!
The only reason why we have the things we have now (like federal funds, citicenship amoung other things) is because they whant us to SHUT UP and let eveything happen and that has developed the puertorrican into a DEPENDANT nation and the people into morons who only depend on the goverment and a nation who doesnt even have there OWN economy. Because USA owns EVERYTHING!
First. The only reason we are the only colony left in the world is because USA only wants Puerto Rico because of its location in the caribbean that is a stratigical military point.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
I live in Puerto Rico and I do not want to be part of the United States. First is that the Congress has power over our territory, and it would never granted us. Puerto Ricans who want statehood live misled by a party (PNP) that based on promises by parity of federal funds, what it does is keep winning elections.
@rakim282828 President Barack Obama said he would solve Puerto Rico's political status in his first term. Why do you think The Democratic Congress would not wan to make Puerto Rico a state? It would make things easier for the Democrats come Election time.
President Obama is counting on Puerto Ricans hard times to vote so they will become a state, he is counting on your hard times so he turns around in Nov when the republican take back the Congress and Senate and Puerto Ricans will be forced at his hand which you just seen to vote and be pressured by your own people to become a state, this spins 2Sen and 6to8 Congress and 8 electoral votes right back to Democrates because the seats are capped and you will be forced to enjoy our misery w/Mexicans!
@zacub Because it would cost him votes from all the Americans who do not want Puerto Rico to be a state. And the overwhelming majority do not want it to.

You are a hypocrite moron.
loveangel71 1 year ago
ARE YOU FOR REAL. WHY THE HELL WOULD OTHER LATINOS BE ENVIOUS OF PUERTO RICO. They dont give a fuck about puerto rico.Because they have ther own country. Puerto rico can and will be a country. Ther are more benefits to independents then statehood, which by the way Puerto rico already as a statehood goverment. And statehood is not working. NOW ITS TIME FOR INDEPENDENTS. Imagin if the US stayed or became a part of the UK. America wouldent be what it is to day.
Tiburone15 1 year ago
@Tiburone15 Why Cuban is doing the same as Dominican? Why central and South American rather cross the dangerous USA border and expose themselves to criminal in Mexico who sometimes raped the women and children and kill the men to cross to USA? Are people in Puerto Rico reading the international news or rather watching the soap operas and comedies? Don’t blame USA for our responsibility; we are responsible for our island to make it better no USA or any other country.
loveangel71 1 year ago
@Tiburone15 Can you give me some of the benefits that we will acquired by been independent? Then why Mexican rather pays thousands of dollars and rather dies in the desert trying to get to USA? Why Dominican rather takes a raggedy raft and exposes their life to danger to get to Puerto Rico and then jump to USA?
loveangel71 1 year ago
@Tiburone15 Why are the Haitians suffering right now? If they are independence what benefits they have now? They have a big island twice the size of Puerto Rico with a lot of resources like Cuba why both islands are in Poverty and political turmoil? Cuban lost their freedom to a horrible dictator and Haiti one dictator to another until the island is a cesspool right now.
loveangel71 1 year ago

It's really up to Puerto Ricans to choose their fate and statehood is looking likely in the future.
cwa1984 1 year ago 2
@cwa1984-1.I know that all those people that hurt the island are dead.2.I also know that if Puerto Ricans wants independence, that's what they should get.3.I don't think enough Puerto Ricans wants statehood, ando even if that is the case, they won't get it.It's not just what Puerto Ricans want,U.S. congress is the one that will grant that dream, and i doubt they will do that.
ElEsprance 1 year ago
@ElEsprance Congress will do it because they won't have a choice in the matter. Not doing it would be political suicide both nationally and internationally since officials have claimed wanting Puerto Ricans to have self determination. Not to mention the huge hispanic vote in the U.S. that they would lose if a political party did not grant statehood if Puerto Rico did vote for it.
cwa1984 1 year ago 2
@cwa1984-What you mean that congress won't have a choice in that matter?Congress have the right to not allow P.R. as the 51st state if they don't want to.I do believe Puerto Ricans should have self-determination,but this issue has 2 sides,Congress being the most important one.It is not a political party that will or not grant what Puerto Ricans want,it's congress.By the way,are you Puerto Rican?
ElEsprance 1 year ago
@ElEsprance Legally they have the right but politically they don't at this point is what I'm getting at. That includes both parties since they both have said the same things over the years and neither one is going to risk losing votes to the other one by not supporting statehood if Puerto Ricans vote for it.
cwa1984 1 year ago 4
@cwa1984-Yes,they have the right. There is no such thing as "politically."Both main political parties of the U.S. should not worry at all about what would be the votes from people in P.R.,it's not a difference at all.
ElEsprance 1 year ago
@ElEsprance Actually it is a huge difference since both parties have been saying Puerto Ricans have the right to self determination over and over again they'd literally look like complete shit. Although both parties are getting used to that considering how bad they run the U.S. in last several years.

There is already the financial crisis in Puerto Rico, and, for some reasons, Puerto Ricans are blaming Washington D.C.
Power comes with responsibility, people.
Don't expect the US to help pay all your bills.
You want statehood, fine. You have to pay as much taxes as the rest of the US.
Nobody likes a freerider.
Some Puerto Ricans reject statehood precisely because they don't want to pay as much taxes.

this is all bullshit, PR should not be a part of the US not because of racism or intolerance but because the people who want statehood do not know what they are voting for, or the consecuenses of statehood.

@DeltaEagle7700 You apparently missed the part where I said they are all fucking dead or damn near.
cwa1984 1 year ago 4
@DeltaEagle7700 These Puerto Ricans are not alone. They do have the rights to fight for independence if they want to.
The US does contradict itself. People in D.C. do not want to give up Puerto Rico, but they don't want to give Puerto Rico statehood, either.
That's the source of all the problems today.
ttiiyy 1 year ago
@ttiiyy. Hmm. Because Hawaii is most inportant to the U.S. military.

@DeltaEagle7700 LOL Hawaii as an independent country? Look at the size of the Chinese Army. Isn't it amazing that China is still Russia's bitch?
You think people around the world that criticize the US have high moral standards? They are just jealous of what the US has.
After Hawaii somehow manages to leave the US, another country will just take over Hawaii, you moron.
You think China or Russia will leave Hawaii alone LOL
ttiiyy 1 year ago
@ttiiyy. And what in the right mind would China, Russia, or any country wanna take us over? For what?
DeltaEagle7700 1 year ago
@DeltaEagle7700 LOL Why does the US not want to give up Hawaii? Did the US take over Hawaii just for fun? Why are there American military personnel?
Nobody in the world will leave Hawaii alone. The Japanese empire eyed for Hawaii, too.
Hawaii is a very important military base that many countries in Hawaii want. So many large ships pass through the island.
You don't have to believe me. Believe whatever you want. Without America's protection, another superpower will take over!
ttiiyy 1 year ago
@ttiiyy Oh boy! You are definitely pathetic, this is the same thing apply to Puerto Rico. What does an Asian know about it? You should mind your own business and do not intervene in Puerto Rico and Hawaii affairs. The same goes for you DeltaEagle7700, we are part of USA whether you like it or not.

@DeltaEagle7700 To answer your own question, just think about why the US "stole" Hawaii ;)
ttiiyy 1 year ago
@ttiiyy. I'm not going to jot down every detail. I know why. Why would any country do the same? China is not an expanstionist. And no longer is Russia. And even if they were, for what?
DeltaEagle7700 1 year ago
@DeltaEagle7700 China is not expansionist because they can't go north because they would have to fight russia and they probably lose that war. They can't go west and conquer countries in the China Sea or Pacific Ocean because alot of those countries are part of ASEAN and they aren't going to put up with China's try conquer them. They aren't going to try and take on Japan because they would immediately be at war with the west. They also can't go east either because of India.

DeltaEagle7700 1 year ago
@DeltaEagle7700 They wouldn't Japan would though most likely.
cwa1984 1 year ago 2
DeltaEagle7700 1 year ago
@DeltaEagle7700 You just answered your own question.
cwa1984 1 year ago
Don't become a State Puerto Rico! Its not going to make much difference! The U.S. is still going to own you! Once you become a State, you CANNOT get out of it! Consider your option for independence if you can sustain yourselfs! Don't become part of a country that doesn't care for its people and that we in the Kingdom of Hawaii refer to as a "corrporation."
We in the Kingdom of Hawaii can relate to something like this. There was NO option for independence in the election
DeltaEagle7700 1 year ago
@DeltaEagle7700 You in the STATE OF HAWAII can fuck off. This is not about the STATE OF HAWAII this is about Puerto Rico. Times have changed the idea Puerto Ricans are going to be slaves as a U.S. state is a fucking joke considering they can leave and return to the island any time they want to and this would change one major thing though. It would allow Puerto Ricans the ability to control their own fate as they would have a voice in Congress.
cwa1984 1 year ago 3
@cwa1984. "FAKE State of Hawaii". As what we call it. But that's another story. Who said anything of Puerto Ricians becoming slaves of the U.S.? Futhermore, even by a territory, Puerto Ricians can always leave the island. Statehood won't make much difference.
DeltaEagle7700 1 year ago
@DeltaEagle7700 It gives them real representation in Congress and the ability to vote for the President something people living on the island never had before and that is a big fucking difference.
cwa1984 1 year ago 3
@cwa1984 You are going to pretend that federal funds are never a factor ;)
ttiiyy 1 year ago
@ttiiyy Everything including federal funds is a factor for Puerto Rico deciding if they are going to join the United States or not. As far as them leaching federal funds goes we already have several states particulary well skilled at doing that already. So before you go screaming about Puerto Ricans wanting statehood just to get a hand out maybe we should look at state's already doing that across the country and stop them from doing it before complaining about Puerto Rico.
cwa1984 1 year ago
@cwa1984 You make a good point here. Why will we need another SHAMELESS state? The country is not in a good shape, so why add more burden on taxpayers?
ttiiyy 1 year ago
@ttiiyy Shameless state? Let me ask you something, why are you in almost every Puerto Rican forum talking shit? From now on I am going to be your personal shadow. What business do you have with us? We are going to be the 51st or remain the same? No independence like you and other envious Latinos want us to be. Sorry dude get a life if you don’t have one the same goes to DeltaEagle771. This is Puerto Rican affair and it has to be resolve by Puerto Rican only.
loveangel71 1 year ago
@ttiiyy Why don't you ask yourself the question on why YOUR Latin/ Asian country is in worst shape economically than Puerto Rico? To me that seems more intelligent because it has to do with you. Why do you get into these videos just to talk crap about us? It's pretty pathetic.
Unknownkid2 1 year ago
@ttiiyy My other reply to you didn't apparently get posted on youtube. Anyway my point in that post was you can't bitch about Puerto Rico being a potential burden state since we already have so many. Also you can say it will be a burden state since Puerto Rico would get a lot more investment after becoming a state so their economy would most likely improve the same way Alaska and Hawaii did after they became states.

Let take a look at our corrupt politicians stealing our own wealth.
loveangel71 1 year ago
@Tiburone15 The FBI and CIA had to clean our patio because we didn’t 130 corrupt police officers even Military and others protecting drug trade and criminals. Do you feel proud of being Puerto Rican when every time in the news one of our citizen fucks it up big time? Let’s talk about the doctors in Haiti good job, what about the biggest drug dealer in the Caribbean they called him Jose Figueroa Agosto - dubbed the Pablo Escobar of the Caribbean.
loveangel71 1 year ago
@Tiburone15 The island had become a cesspool of drug dealers and criminals our own fault because instead of trying to make our island better we wait for USA to solve every problem that we caused. What about the New York Ricans adopting the ghetto ways instead of the white people ways.

@loveangel71 America does not deserve Puerto rico ether. America is not the good country people think it is. If america cared about puerto rico, then they would have done a lot more to help our island. AND YES I AM STILL PROUD OF MY PUERTO RICAN CULTURE. Something you have seem to have forgoten.

loveangel71 1 year ago
@Tiburone15 At least we have a few Puerto Rican who are really trying to represent us in a good manner like our Doctors, scientist, Soldiers, lawyers and business people, artists, etc. For example Judge Soto mayor and others. America was trying to do more but what happen? Every time they try, they end up been the bad guys. In Puerto Rico they hate the FBI, CIA and any law enforcement agencies when they try to put order in PR.
loveangel71 1 year ago
@Tiburone15 Our own fucking police bunch of criminals who didn’t care about his people protecting drug dealers who are poisoning our youth. They were letting others criminals roam free hurting our citizens. In the Airport baggage handler introducing drugs and stealing tourists goods from their suitcases, they don’t want to travel PR anymore prefer other island sinking PR in to poverty.
loveangel71 1 year ago
@Tiburone15 I don’t really blame USA for not making PR part of the union. A lot of disgraceful tecatos bothering tourists in San Juan I almost grab my Gun to blow his head of. In my opinion I see a very Dark Future in Puerto Rico if they ever want to become independent. In Puerto Rico we are not able to handle our island much less if we become independent. Whoever doesn’t agree with me is a hypocrite because this is the truth and nobody can’t hide the truth.
loveangel71 1 year ago
@Tiburone15 Beside how can you help an island when someone tried to help and they resist been help. This is like trying to help a drug addict or borracho, because they never admit having a problem. Also how can you help islanders who brains had been washed by others Latinos and suspicious people who want us to become like them.
loveangel71 1 year ago
@Tiburone15 Just take a look at your neighbors Domincanos had been migrating to PR for ages then jumping to New York using PR as a bridge to USA. Mexican thousands migrating every fucking day claiming USA belong to them. What about Cubans rather die in a raft than going back to Cuba, Even many Mexicans in the internet claiming when they take control of USA, they are going to kick every fucking PR back to PR.

josuerodriguez1981 1 year ago
Puerto Rico should just become a state aready. They have chosen to remain a commonwealth for a long time now it makes nosense for them to be their on nation since are histories are linked. If they haven't lost their culture by now they are not going to. Also Puerto Rico being an island helps with this matter since they are not connected to other states that could influence them. It's time for them to take their rightful place in the union.
cwa1984 1 year ago 49
@cwa1984 That's your opinion. Fact is that Hawaii is a series of islands, and they lost their identity. Of 1,295,178 habitants, just 80,000 are Hawaian natives, the rest are asians, latinos, germans, americans, etc. 10% of its inhabitants are drug addicts. Immediately after statehood, we would still feel puertorrican th first days, weeks, months, even years; but, our nation wont survive only on those generations. Others will come that will feel more American than puertorrican.
yeyc77 1 year ago
@yeyc77 First Puerto Rico is not hawaii. Second the U.S. during the early 20th century did try to wipe out Puerto Rico's culture and failed to do so. What makes you think they'll suceed now especially with so many different immigrants from latin America living in the United States who won't tolerate it at all? Also you already are Americans by being U.S. citizens so what is your point their? You'll finally gain the same rights as everyone else and this is a bad thing because?
cwa1984 1 year ago 2
@cwa1984 Same shit, different hole buddy. "Also Puerto Rico being an island helps with this matter since they are not connected to other states". It happened to Hawaii, and its and island thats my point. And I'm not saying they will directly wipe out our culture, but rather the process of statehood. You're admitting they tried to wipe out our culture, so what makes you think I would like to be part of such a country? Pshh please. I have self-respect pal.
yeyc77 1 year ago
@yeyc77 What happened to Hawaii was the result of America and Europe competeing for power in the Pacific. That's not the case with Puerto Rico. Also I mentioned the U.S. in the early twentieth century before WW2 before me and you were even born yet tried to destroy Puerto Rico's culture and it did not work. Those people are all dead now and America has changed since then.
cwa1984 1 year ago
@yeyc77 Your arguing about shit that happened generations ago like it happened yesterday and could happen today which is complete nonsense. So if you had self respect for yourself you would be honest with why you don't want Puerto Rico to be a state instead of making up bullshit excuses.
cwa1984 1 year ago
@cwa1984 I have self-respect because I refuse to continue to b under the control of a tyrant nation that hasn't let us progress. I have self-respect because I've seen hundreds of cases of cancer on our little islands Vieques and Culebra, and how children are born with deffects because of all the radition left behind by the Marines when they left and have not taken responsability. I have self-respect because I honor our history and we cannot forget the attrocities commited by the US against us.
yeyc77 1 year ago
@yeyc77 The last part is a weak argument because you would have to include the atrocities Spain commited as well. Anyway if you don't want to be part of America and think Puerto Rico would be better off as it's own nation than vote and encourage others with same views to do so when the next referandum comes out which will be sooner rather than later. .
cwa1984 1 year ago 3
@yeyc77 However do realize that not every Puerto Rican wants Puerto Rico to be it's onw nation and that their is a good chance it will become a state regardless if you like it or not.
cwa1984 1 year ago 3
@cwa1984 I do realize that and its a shame. I would like to think how would you feel if you were still a colony of England. You guys love freedom and even kill innocent people in its name. See this in the perspective of the American Revolution, people like me are the whigs or patriots and people that want statehood are the tories or loyalists, except the patriots are outnumbered. Whos side of the American Revolution would yo be with? Our hisoty is a very complicated one, you wouldnt understand.
yeyc77 1 year ago
@yeyc77 The problem with this argument is the U.S. has given Puerto Rico several chances of becoming their own country. The majority of Puerto Ricans have reject that and becoming a state and chose to remain a colony. The difference here between the American revolution and Puerto Rico's status is America tried to work things out with england and that failed so we went to war. With Puerto Rico the U.S. has given them the choice to decide their own fate.
cwa1984 1 year ago 3
@yeyc77 So you description of you being a freedom fighter comes off as bullshit. You might not like what the others want but that's the way things work. The majority of Americans were pissed off by the British Empire most of the loyalists left for Canada. You don't have the same situation going on so it's a bullshit comparison.
cwa1984 1 year ago 3
@cwa1984 Those plebiscites have been iniciatives of PR not the US, they couldnt care less. Study our history profoundly if you care so much for us and you will see Puertoricans have been lied to by our political leaders in order to get them to vote for something they dont even know will be benefitial for them. Understand not everyone here in the past recieved an education. Uneducated people are easy to decieve. This generation is gaining conscience and is more educated.
yeyc77 1 year ago
@yeyc77 If it's only uneducated people voting for Statehood than how do you explain people with college degrees voting for it who know that leaders from all sides are full of shit to some extent? Also why is statehood gaining ground as well?
cwa1984 1 year ago 15
@cwa1984 Im not saying all of them are, most are very smart people and have really good reasons why statehood is better, but most dont even know why it is better. Some vote for statehood just because their family believes in it. They just go on repeating what our political leaders say, and when you asked them they cant explain. That's why im telling you, learn our history, specially on politics. People misuse the right of sufrage. I could PM you my reasons and tell me what you think.
yeyc77 1 year ago
@yeyc77 I've heard the reasons for and against both statehood and independence. Not being rude here but I doubt you'll send me any new information that will change my mind but if you want to take this to PM's that's fine with me. As far as politicians lying and people following them blindly that has happened throughout history. It's most likely going to continue in the future as well unfortuneately.
cwa1984 1 year ago 34
@cwa1984 Politicians promise federal funds. If that does not happen, Puerto Rico might be in a worse state.
People in the other 50 states are just not going to pay most of the bills for Puerto Ricans. And, yes, I am including hispanics in the US!
ttiiyy 1 year ago
@yeyc77 Formal education has little to do with it. People are sucessfully lied to because they want to believe the lie. Just look at the crap the US congress has perpetrated on the people, both educated and uneducated - and there is a mixture of those who believe and those who know they are being lied to. By educated do you actually mean informed - anyone can be informed if they chose to keep their eyes open and their brain engaged.

These people can keep dreaming!
ttiiyy 1 year ago
@cwa1984 Easy to say that isnt it? Have you ever been to Puerto Rico? No I dont mean on vacation in San Juan. As a born and raised Puerto Rican, I can easily point out the cultural differences that have come about just in the last 15-20 years. Personally, as sad as it may sound, San Juan can't even be considered part of Puerto Rico anymore. It has been so Americanized and poluted with American interests that you'd be hard pressed to find something that is actually Puerto Rican.
presidente006 1 year ago
@cwa1984 What sickens me even more is that there have been so many Americans and American companies that have moved to Puerto Rico for business reasons, who they also favor statehood and will most ilkely be allowed to vote in the ridiculous plebiscite coming up. In my opinion, they should not even be considered because THEY ARE NOT the ones who have something to lose. They ARE NOT losing their culture, their heritage or their language. You can keep your citizenship and your welfare.
presidente006 1 year ago
@presidente006 Businesses go where there is a profit people have rubbed off there culture on one another for thousands of years that is completely normal and expected. However Puerto Rico becoming an American State does not automatically mean the Island is going to be stripped of all it's own culture that is bullshit. If Puerto Rico loses it's culture it's because people did not perserve it and that would be there own fault not people from the outside deliberately destroying it.
cwa1984 1 year ago 9
@cwa1984 You made some good points. If Puerto Rico loses its culture it would undoubtedly be MOSTLY their fault. I did say mostly. That is exactly ONE of the reasons why I am against statehood. I live in Miami and I personally see it everyday. So-called Hispanics who know nothing about their culture, their history and very little of their own language. I do not want that to happen to Puerto Rico. Cultures DO rub off on each other. That is one of the main traits of the PR culture.
presidente006 1 year ago
@cwa1984 Our culture is made up of Spanish, African, Taino and now American. Im fine with that. But we would obviously be the minority when compared to the much larger American public. Whose culture do you think would win there? Certainly not ours.. (NuYoricans being a perfect example). They feel that waving a flag once a year at a parade makes them Puerto Rican. But ask them about Bomba. Theyll think youre talking about a bomb. Ask them about Plena and theyll think thats how you say "plain".
presidente006 1 year ago
@cwa1984 I do not want that for my island. I want my culture preserved. I want my language preserved. It has been decimated over the last 112 years. And it will continue to do so if almost half of the Puerto Rican population stays uninformed about what would be the actual outcome of Puerto Rico becoming a state. Ask an "estadista" why he is. His first and only reason will be because he wants to be able to vote for a President. Why vote for a foreign President when you can vote for your own?!
presidente006 1 year ago
@presidente006 Would the President really be foreign if Puerto Rico was a State? A future President could very well be from Puerto Rico how would that make him foreign exactly? Using the same logic you are Spain was foreign than yet you wish to perserve the language? I'm not mocking Spanish here or Puerto Rican culture I'm just trying to get you to think about what you are saying and how it's not consistent. Also you are ignoring how much power you all would have in congress.
cwa1984 1 year ago 6
@cwa1984 Yes! The Presidente would still be foreign. Obviously not in the traditional sense of the word since, God forbid, at that point we would be a State due to the fact that we decided to tuck our tails between our legs and ask the US to fix the problems were not willing to fix ourselves. Im sorry. I wasnt raised that way and I dont live that way. I fix my own problems and Im responsible for my own issues. I dont live off of mommy and daddy and I certainly dont ask for "Big Brother's" help.
presidente006 1 year ago

I guarantee you that if it was Daddy Yankee or
presidente006 1 year ago

I respect other's opinions but I want them to
presidente006 1 year ago

Not an enemy and not siamese.
presidente006 1 year ago

Just let my people keep their island.
presidente006 1 year ago

Leave Puerto Rico to those that still love her and appreciate her.
presidente006 1 year ago
@cwa1984 See? one of the only people ACTUALLY speaking for us. Thank youe, there are a lot of people that think we would actually want independence.

Because USA owns EVERYTHING!
rafarivera88 1 year ago
First. The only reason we are the only colony left in the world is because USA only wants Puerto Rico because of its location in the caribbean that is a stratigical military point.
rafarivera88 1 year ago
This comment has received too many negative votes show
I live in Puerto Rico and I do not want to be part of the United States. First is that the Congress has power over our territory, and it would never granted us. Puerto Ricans who want statehood live misled by a party (PNP) that based on promises by parity of federal funds, what it does is keep winning elections.
rakim282828 1 year ago
@rakim282828 President Barack Obama said he would solve Puerto Rico's political status in his first term. Why do you think The Democratic Congress would not wan to make Puerto Rico a state? It would make things easier for the Democrats come Election time.

@zacub Fundamental rule, do not believe what a politician says, believe in their actions.
rakim282828 1 year ago
President Obama is counting on Puerto Ricans hard times to vote so they will become a state, he is counting on your hard times so he turns around in Nov when the republican take back the Congress and Senate and Puerto Ricans will be forced at his hand which you just seen to vote and be pressured by your own people to become a state, this spins 2Sen and 6to8 Congress and 8 electoral votes right back to Democrates because the seats are capped and you will be forced to enjoy our misery w/Mexicans!
yoggie2 1 year ago
@zacub Because it would cost him votes from all the Americans who do not want Puerto Rico to be a state. And the overwhelming majority do not want it to.
AntonioSantiago 1 year ago
@rakim282828 You actually make a good point. The money just does not grow up trees.
There are 50 states in the US already. There aren't enough federal funds for everyone. All politicians know that. They just don't tell the truth.
