  • Feeling you on the cat fur. I've got 2 kitties and 2 pups, so it's EVERYWHERE, lol. Anyway, thanks so much for all the good info. I started doing a similar routine but much more conservative. I'm going to go boldy and do the hydraquinone twice a day. I'm glad I found you. Looking forward to going through all your vids :)

  • @mrscloggy Thanks so much for watching and your comment. Just thrilled you found this useful! ♥ Jan

  • you're beautiful, thank you for the tips!!

  • @giantsfan630 You are so welcome! I am thrilled to be of assistance :) ♥ Jan

  • Thanks again !

  • @veronika138 You are quite welcome!

  • Thank you so much !!!

What's the difference between the gel and cream ?

And Does it have the same strength ?

Do you think starting with the 0.1% is too much ?

  • @veronika138 The difference is simply the carrier & not the active ingredient. Gels are generally formulated for treating acne while creams are for anti-aging. The strength of the active ingredient would be the same if the percentages shown are the same. I do think 0.1% would be too much to start with. If you read the info under there is a study that lower concentrations produce the same result with less irritation. Too much irritation is not a good thing.

  • Great video. What was the link to the web for the retin a

  • @veronika138 In the description section under the video-can not put a link here. In House Pharmacy (dot) biz. Search for Tretinoin. They sell 2 generics .05% but I would use the Retin-A gel.025% if I were not using the Atralin Would also purchase Atralin over purchasing the Retin-A Micro as I feel the Atralin is much less irritating at the same % than the Retin-A Micro. Hope that helps :) Thanks!

  • Had to let you know, so far so good with your version of Obagi! I am so glad to have found your video on this. Loving the coconut oil and the Aim 2 Health Cream combo. I did expect the coconut oil to smell like coconuts but it doesn't. That is fine, it is such a nice moisturizer, I am okay with that! ;) Thank you again. Btw, Keihl's makes a nice toner that is cucumber smelling and alcohol free.

  • @flproctor Glad to hear this is working out well for you. You may well be able to drop the Aim 2 health urea cream when we have warmer weather. Real coconut oil actually has a lovely bit of scent as opposed to coconut "fragrance" that is added to products. I have used the Keihl's and it is nice the PC is just less expensive. Thanks so much for your comment! ♥ Jan

  • I think O. is for a thick oily skin like mine... I had horrible "photo Aging" -Spotted like a Zebra-Horrible... the Peeling was annoying but Exactly what I needed... I only need a moisturizer in the winter and then not a heavy one... & no one believes I am almost 60 and I get compliments on my skin allll the time....For toner I love 2Tbs of ASV in 10oz of Distilled Water- Don't worry the smell dissipates in 2seconds....Thanks for the tips... I am saving money but Obagi was such a great step

  • @caseypop So glad that you found something that works for you and you are so very welcome! I have always done good skin care and Obagi was just way too brutal for me. Thanks so much for the suggestion for the toner :) xoxo Jan

  • Thank you for your information. I just got my tretinoin from the website you listed. :)

  • @aileth26 You are so very welcome. Thanks so much for watching :) ♥ Jan

  • Ps you have a cute and naughty smile. Love it :)

  • @Angelmagik2 Thank you-I think :) LOL

  • Hi, thank you for your kind reply. I wondered if you could help with information on alternative ingredients to the Witch Hazel for the toner and what active ingredients are used in the elastiderm eye cream? I think it is great that you are making these videos and am looking forward to more. Can you tell me how to subscribe please. Thanks Christine

  • @Angelmagik2 Sent you a pm :)

  • Excellent video and web sites. Thank you I live in UK and impossible to get tretinoin without prescription. My supplier charges £84 for 20g I just placed an order on line for 50g for £25. I will have to pay tax and handling but still a huge saving. Thank you so much. Xxxx

  • @Angelmagik2 You are so very welcome. Thrilled that you are able to enjoy such substantial savings. I have changed things a bit in my use of tretinoin and some of my moisturizers but basically everything is the same. Thanks so much for watching and your lovely comment! xoxo Jan

  • I go to Tijuana often and get retina for around $10, the real thing!!! And basically do the same process as you. Obagi is just ridiculous and taking advantage of people that are not happy with their skin...shameful. thank you for your video.

  • @BrazoDelDiablo I soo agree with you :) Thanks so much for your comment! xoxo Jan

  • Thanks so much for your opinion. Your skin is beautiful. I too was considering the Obagi but I have sensitive skin and really being a fair skinned redhead, I don't have much sun damage if any, as I have always stayed out of the sun and used sunscreen. I am going to get a script for the Retin A, at 43 I believe I should have probably already started it but better late than never. Thank so much again.

  • @thelmalou475 My GP does but also have a derm that gets the 2 scripts for me. I am really sold on Atralin :)

Thank you Sandy-my skin is far from flawless but for my age I am in pretty good shape for the shape I am in LOL xo Jan

  • What strength of AHA do you recommend?

  • @911josie 8-10% with a pH of 3.5 to 4 If you can't determine the pH from the container or advertising you can purchase inexpensive pH strips from any pharmacy. Hope that helps :)

  • @Catalina031

Super, thank you and thank you for the great video. I was considering Obagi; but was concerned about the hugh investment. I am so happy that I found your video.

  • @911josie I am thrilled you found it useful!

  • @911josie I am thrilled you found it useful!

  • @911josie I am thrilled you found it useful!

  • Its my pleasure . Don't forget if you ever see any UK skin care that you want to try I will get you some . Ps Tazorac is easy to get hold of from my doctor and it's free for me . If you want a tube I shall send you some . Be well and keep up the good work

  • @dannyleeds1132 I will have to think about that :) I am sure there are some awesome skin care lines there. Thanks so much for the offer sweetie!

  • @dannyleeds1132 I will have to think about that :) I am sure there are some awesome skin care lines there. Thanks so much for the offer sweetie!

  • You made me laugh and smile so much Thank you !! You made my day and I loved your video it's very informative !!

    Danny xx

  • @dannyleeds1132 Thank you Danny! I appreciate you watching and your comments! <3 Jan

  • Thanks for doing this video! i just purchased the Obagi Nu Derm starter kit for $300..of course i discovered your video after the fact :) but once the products start to run out, I will be trying out your homemade "Obagi" version. The key ingredients really are the AHA, ($8.00 for a big bottle at Walgreens) Tretinoin ($20 for 3 tubes since my insurance covered it and Hydroquinone.(not sure what that will cost) but I'm sure it will be alot cheaper than the $300 I just spent.

  • @carriemiranda130 4 % hydroquinone is dirt cheap also- a tube is 20.00 at Wal Mart pharmacy and lasts forever! This "system" of inexpensive ingredients is quite the money maker for Dr. Obagi and those who sell his products. Thanks so much for your comment :) ♥ jan

  • I so agree with you Jan....I think alot of the treatments are way too harsh. I am now using Retin A, (I think I have rhino skin but I have had very little peeling and no redness!). Do you totally recommend the apha hydroxy....I didn't catch the name of the product you recommended? I agree Obagi is way over priced...and I don't like parabens for stuff I leave all over my skin..it sounds cheap rubbish for a fortune! Thanks for such an informative vid :-) xo

  • @LittleMissForty Alpha Hydrox is just 1 particular brand of AHA which is glycolic. My skin is sensitive so my favorite glycolic product is Dr. Denese Advanced Friming Facial Pads. Have used them for 10 + years. I try to mention less expensive products that still work-hence the Alpha Hydrox but the Dr. D one has aloe, peptides, vit. a & e and is just a superior product-imho :) But glycolic acid is the work horse ingredient. Going to do an updated skin care routine soon. Thank you! xo jan

  • @Catalina031 Glad to know this too, as I also have sensitive skin. So glad I found your channel. I have already learned so much. :-))

  • @Lyndy0828 Thanks so much for your comments!

  • amazing video! thanks!

  • @elendiana11 Thank you! I am doing an updated skin care routine soon and sharing some more thoughts about my "Obagi" products.

  • thank you so much. I love that you share so honestly with us. We spend a fortune on these products for absolutely no reason !! Great video. Lots of common sense.

  • @rivers1anne Indeed we do. Which is OK for women who have disposable income and nothing else to do with it. I just have never wanted women to feel they had to spend thousands of dollars on skin care to have nice looking skin. Thank you sweetheart! xo Jan

  • Hi, just watched your video re: Retin A then went onto this one. Great realistic info in both! I'm wondering if the have ever used a Clarisonic or other Sonic Cleansing Brushes for the face? I have been using a Clarisonic dupe with great results (a cheaper version of it, they're so expensive) and wonder what your thoughts are?

  • @loobsy1 Hi sweetheart :) I have had quite a few people ask my opinion of the Clarisonic so just decided to do a brief video. Uploading as I write this and hope it helps. I am 60 and have never used any sort of sonic brush on my face. Thanks so much for asking! ♥ Jan

  • @Catalina031 Thank you, the Clarisonic is a hot topic here on you tube! I have to say you don't look anywhere near 60 so whatever you're doing is working!

  • I don'r mind spending 27 minutes to learn some valuable information. Heck, I would sit for and hour and 27 minutes in order to learn what's needed. ;-) Jen

  • @thisbettieluvsflower Thanks sweetie :)

  • I've found the secret.... lol. Thank you for the very informative video.

  • @thisbettieluvsflower This is not all of it but about half. Use different products in the am :) You are soo welcome!

Sorry it was soo long-don't usually drag my videos out like this but soo many products and soo much information-best I could do. ♥ Jan

  • Thank you for this! My plastic surgeon wants me to get on more of a chemical exfoliant skin care system (retinoid and AHA), but I'm nervous about all the peeling. Hopefully it works out, if I end up doing it. Love the video! Great info!

  • @JustAnotherGayKid You are soo welcome sweetheart! I really think you can do tretinoin without peeling. I rarely peel anymore-or at least not obvious peeling. Chemical exfoliatioin is just soo superior to physical exfoliation. Be sure to not mix your AHA's with your tretinoin. Maybe apply the AHA in the morning and tretinoin at night. And use a great sunscreen! Thanks so much for the lovely comment! ~hugs jan

  • That was such a great informative video Jan. Thanks for letting me know that I missed it. I did the Obagi Nuderm over a year ago. I was bright red for months! Then i ended up developing rosacea. Crazy! Never again! I need to get a few of the products you talked about. Stacie xo

  • @thejools123 You are soo welcome Stacie :) Sorry it was soo long! I think the Obagi "system" is just a dreadful way to treat our skin. I would have also been bright red had I continued to use it. I have been doing this daily at night since last November and my skin is still super soft and not "beaten" up but have used tretinoin & hydroquinone off and on for over 10 years. I would love to know what you get and your opinion about any of the products! xoxo jan

  • hi jan, so glad i saw this video, since i just started to use obagi last week and am shocked at how bad my skin is looking, it ripped it up, and i have used retin a for years. no can do. it's way to rough, my face was falling off, and i'm really aggressive with my skin.you spoke so intelligently about this subject, i'm forwarding this to a client. thank you.

  • @donnashorts1 Thank you Donna- I'm pleased you found it useful and hope your client finds it useful as well. I obviously had the same experience as you with Obagi and I too have used tretinoin products for many years. I think Obagi is just dreadful and not just for mature skin- :) jan

  • @Catalina031 you are welcome, you always do such thoughtful reviews jan.

  • Hi Jan, one more question about anti-aging. What do you think of antioxidants? Do you believe they really do much for the skin or is it more hype too? Thanks!

  • @AndreaJuliet I have used the ce ferulic by both skinceuticals & another company that sells the same product for a 1/3 of the price. Anti-oxidants have some research but nothing in my opinion that is definitive-soo maybe-possibly? If I use it I buy the less expensive non patented version from cosmetic skin solutions. Don't believe in it enough to pay what skinceuticals charges. How is that for a vague answer lol Sorry-just really on the fence about the benefits. You are welcome sweetie :)

  • I fully agree about professionals selling products and what you said, you must not trust everything. What dr. johnson says is just interesting and something to study, I'm not saying i'm sold. Their serums are too expensive for me right now anyways compared to retin a...

Most stuff is just hype and I agree that the place to put money in terms of aging is plastic surgury/fillers....but I'm definitely going to stick with a retin a product because its great and affordable...:)

  • @AndreaJuliet Tretinoins are one of the few real anti-agers around right now. I do think they have merit, are affordable and readily available-you are wise to stick with them :) I do use a the AHA-glycolic on my neck and decolette-also good science behind glycolic acid. Thanks soo much for your questions!

  • One more question, you mentioned never using the clarisonic, i have one, but my mind isn't made up if it really does much good or if its good at all...Do you think its actually not good for the skin? i'm just trying to decide if I want to continue it and I travel a lot and its a pain to always bring it, just don't know if its worth it...

Thanks for the replies, I like hearing your views. have a great evening.

  • @AndreaJuliet I think we can over exfoliate-if someone is already on a good skin care regimen they likely do not need a Clarisonic. If they are not-maybe it would be useful. I will always prefer chemical exfoliation to physical-easier to control, easier to get consistant results, easier to "measure" exactly how much exfoliation one is getting since the chemical formulation is always the same. My skin is in great shape without using Osmosis or a Clarisonic. You too sweetheart :)

  • The reason why I liked kathy is that she doesn't push her products, she doesn't believe in all the foofoo ingredients, she tries to help people, she says the best thing you can do (besides sunscreen) is use a vitamin A (like retin a) product, and most over the counter just don't have a the strength to do anything. She doesn't just repeat what every esthetician says. Most estheticians are a waste. The Dr. who created Osmosis has videos that are very interesting about his serums & penetration...

  • @AndreaJuliet I have not as a rule been thrilled about physicians selling products-Obagi for example-I feel it represents a real conflict of interest. There is a great deal of interesting information out there but if it is coming from someone selling me something it makes it a whole lot more difficult for me to believe especially with a lack of clinical trials to back up their "results" or benefits. But I will check it out-thanks :)

  • Hi! I was @ Sephora & a lady said I shouldn't be using retin a long term because it will thin my skin & is horrible in the long run. (I use it for acne & aging & am liking it). She said she is an esthetician and she used it for 1 yr & she could tell how much it thinnd her skin & her clients. I've research & found that it can thin the top layer, but thicken the lower layers and is the best anti-ager out there. Many say they love it, used it for years, & look young 4 their age. What do you think?

  • @AndreaJuliet IMHO-not an expert :) I agree with your findings-Tretinoin (retin-a) increases skin cell turnover rate & boosts collagen synthesis. Our skin is not in a static state-it helps accelerate the skin renewal cycle which slows with aging. It may thin the epidermis but is thickening the dermis. I don't know a single derm doc who does not recommend it's use. Have used for about 10 years. Need to be obsessive about using a good zinc oxide sunscreen & a good moisturizer. Help? xo jan

  • @Catalina031 Hi Jan, I think I shouln't freak out on what she said, the voice in my head was saying she was a little off, and not to be mean, but her skin looked really bad for being 53. So maybe she's blaming retin a, but she also did accutane, which can do serious damage. She said retin a constantly exfolitate & thats bad, yet she loved glycolic which I think just exfoliates & doesn't thicken the dermis. Your skin looks amazing, you've had no botox yet you look like it, its so smooth! Thanks!

  • @AndreaJuliet Tretinoin has sort of the side effect of some exfoliation but its purpose and function is not all about exfoliation like the AHA's are. No, absolutely no botox, or anything else for that matter including any sort of skin treatments and have never used a Clarisonic. I am 60 and while nothing prevents aging I think my skin is in pretty good shape. But I have always had a reasonable approach to skin care. You are so welcome!

  • @Catalina031 Couple more questions. have you watched KathySpears videos, she's an esthetician & she's awsome. She likes Osmosis skincare, which seems like a pretty neat innovative brand. I have their zink sunscreen (micronized zink & doesn't go into your system). have you tried Osmosis? Also, I'm doing retin a gel, I have oily acne prone skin & am 31, should I try retin a micro instead for less irritation & because it doesn't contain alcohol? Thanks!

  • @AndreaJuliet Have not watched Kathy. I have never even been to an aesthetician and don't place much value on a particular line, OTC or "Cosmeceutical". I don't want to speak ill of products someone on YT is selling-But if a person seriously wants to show no signs of chronological aging their money would be best socked away in savings for a good ps. Did go check out the Osmosis ingredients-nothing special-but if you like them use them :) No irritation from Atralin-at least the way I use it

  • I've been afraid to use retinol because of the sun (yes, I do use sunscreen, mostly) and I do wax my face in places. Any advice on when not to use retinoids? Thank you so much!

Your skin looks fabulous! I'm kinda overwhelmed with all the products - soo much info! I'm going to have to study this video until I "get it". I appreciate all your research!

  • @delacotta360 There is a distinct difference between retinol/retinoids and tretinoins-the former being non prescription over the counter much, much weaker products. I would not personally use tretinoin products like Atralin unless I was obsessive about using an awesome sunscreen and avoiding the sun with hats etc as much as possible. They do increase greatly the skins sensitivity to the sun. I would be happy to answer any questions I can-pm me any time :) xoxo jan

  • @GiGiGoesShopping Nothing like instilling confidence in a patient like having the wrong chart! Alum is in tons of things including pickles- @tightening things up-LOL I have read that same thing. Wonder if it works? Now that would be fodder for a YT video! :) Sure did not do diddly for tightening up my face!

  • Okay, first, this video didn't hit my inbox until today??? Next, fabulous video! I've been researching Atralin since I read an article by a dermatologist who uses it. It seems to be a retinol that is gentler on the skin. I have a 4% Hydroquinone that I got on-line without a prescription. I tried the Obagi cleanser, sucked every bit of moisture out of my skin! Going to look up your other products now. Hugs:D

  • @debbick1 Thanks Deb- I did not think to look for a place to order hydroquinone online-think I will do that & put the link under. One can now order anything online! That whole system was wicked bad on on my face! I just could not see the benefit and my face looked & felt awful! Not my objective for skin care :) Been doing this "protocol" since last November & it has worked very well. The video-apparently the date I put on it is irrelevant-YT will always use the upload date? ~hugs jan

  • @Catalina031 I tried Obaji years ago..it eat my skin up..I really don't think it is good for more mature skin..I'm already dry enough..going to check out your products...thanks ..great video

  • @ritashelton I don't really feel like Obagi, as it is done, is good for anyones skin but Dr. Obagi sure seems to. Thanks Rita :)

  • great informative video thank you xx

  • @SueGlobalMixUp You are so welcome :) Thanks for watching! ~hugs jan

  • OMG you blow me away with how informative you are. Hey we don't have that PC Resist Cellular Defense Daily Moisturizer-spf 25 on the UK site, what's up with that! If you decide you want to get rid of it, I'll purchase it from you ;-) I'm currently using PC Extra Care SPF45. There is only one Sun cream that didn't work for me and it was the Clinique Sun for the body but same ingredients as the face one just alot more of it for your money PC rec. Was awful never suffered allergic reaction b4!

  • @dianeuk01 It is actually not on the market yet and not yet on the US site either- I am a sneaky one :) I am guessing you will see it pop up there soon! xoxo jan

  • Wow! Lots of great information, Jan! Your skin is so beautiful! It's nice to see there are far better and less expensive ways to take care of our skin. I have been wondering about Paula's Choice products for quite awhile but have never tried them. Looking forward to your upcoming skincare videos. Hugs. . . Vickie

  • @go24jeffgordon Thank you Vickie-there are soo many products that are just not worth what they cost. I am going to do a review of several Paula's Choice products which so far I am really liking :) xoxo jan

  • Jan I love watching your videos! You have so much knowledge and I love that you are educating us :) It is nice to see that you don't need to use expensive products let alone a whole program to get amazing results! Thank again ~ xoxo Michelle

  • @scarletfire28 Thank you dear Michelle :) There is a point of diminished return with regard to just about everything including skin care. While the expensive products come in pretty containers and may have exotic sounding or "high tech" ingredients they just don't have anything miraculous in them. I would spend money on expensive products if they truly worked! xoxo jan

  • Awesome awesome video Jan!! Yay for no cleanser in the morning, too;)) Especially , Dial????? I don't even like to wash my hands with it! LOL! No lie... C

  • @4evryoung58 Thanks darling :) Dial-I know-I just love it as a hand soap and had the bright idea to use it on my face one morning and had an "ah ha" moment LOL Somehow it just works on me wee little mug :) xoxo jan

  • Is the colour blue to give you the mental suggestion of coolness?? lol Jan I just got a tinted moisturizer by Aveeno with a spf of 30 but the sales lady said the spf is for more indoor lights and not really strong enough for outdoors. Maybe if you were out for about 5 mins it would protect you, do you think it could be so or maybe she didn't really know what she was talking about lol?

  • @ziplockcan I am certain that must be it Cathy :) Studies have shown that products with a SPF over 50 do not provide any significantly better protection than one over 30 because when applied properly, an SPF 15 filters out 93 percent of UVB, SPF 30 filters 97 percent & SPF 50 filters 98 percent. UVA rays penetrate windows & fluorescent lights do emit uva but no rating for uva protection from products. 1/4 to 1/3 tsp for face. Hope that helps :)

  • @Catalina031 yes it does thanks Jan. I saw a product today with a spf of 110!!! Didn't think it could go over 100.

  • @ziplockcan Oh the power of marketing LOL anything to out-do a competitor :) I do like the Shiseido one best though-not because of the higher spf but because of the large percentage of zinc oxide.

  • Jan, Thank you so much for so informative video. Dinah !

  • @dinah13 You are so very welcome Dinah!

  • Jan Thank You for this video ! I am going to watch it again and I have saved it to my favorites and I am going to try your way. I know your skin looks beautiful and there is no way I would look at you and think you are 60 so I know what you are saying works because the proof is in the pudding so to speak . Thank You again for this video !! xo Susie ~

  • @sek4me You are soo welcome Susie :) Soo very sorry it has taken me so very long to get this done! Let me know if there is any information I failed to put under the video! xoxo jan

  • Hi Jan, I so agree that these products can cause some serious hurt to the pocketbook, I totally agree its shameful what these manufacturer charge, greed over the top and they take advantage of consumers. Since I'm on this soap box, whats up with some of the beauty gurus that recommend lipstick that range in the $50 bracket? Tom Ford and Gurlain, unbelievable! LOL! Thanks for sharing, Klaire

  • @1guiltfree I guess it is called capitalism which I support-BUT-there is making a profit & there is outright greed & it seems the beauty biz has jumped on the greed bandwagon. Marketing-we are inundated with it and YT is no exception. Money? Anti-aging & cosmetics is a multi billion dollar business I have worn a "Chanel" face and not a damn person recognized it was Chanel LOL I am quite happy with drugstore :) Thanks for watching Klaire!

  • @MyInformer I love the basics but I am also a firm believer in medicine lol Suppose I would have to be given my background :) I have attempted to find the happy medium between "natural" and high tech and am pretty satisfied with what I am using. The aromatic oils are great for lots of things and I love coconut, borage & jojoba too! Thanks for watching!

  • Thanks, your skin is beautiful!

  • @imsassi Thank you :) My skin is in pretty good shape for the shape it is in LOL
