Chris Hedges has stated that he does not believe in an anthropomorphic god. He believes in religion as the attempt to understand the non-rational. He told his audience that it is important to distinguish between the non-rational and the irrational. What I heard from him was that religion is essential to be human. If you do not try to understand love, tragedy etc, you are just an animal. Extremist religion is dangerous, but that also does not mean that religion is futile. I'm an atheist BTW.
@phildirt3 You embarrass atheists when you make generalizations about various beliefs and religion. You need to do more studying of this issue for which you have such contempt. As it is you are letting vanity and emotional contempt get the better of your intelligence.
So true and so sad for true Christians that follow the teachings of Jesus in the New Testament. These people are destroying the christian religion in America.
@phildirt3 Thanks for the degrading reply. The Christianity that Chris Hedges is speaking about has nothing to do with the philosophy of christianity. I actually really agree with what he is saying, it is just that I am not an athiest. I don't believe either that the bible is literal. But that doesn't matter. The Christian Right is truly dangerous. Can we agree??
The truth of the matter is we do have rights,we have every right to serve our father and also practice our rights just like a person who does not belive in our father has there rights not to.You tell me I can not pray to my father in heavin then I will still pray, just like a none beliver will practice there rights.arrest me fine, the non belivers also get arrested for nothing.I would rather be arrrsted for something. My point is our rights are being striped little by little and I am going to fight
Blame the people, don't blame the book. People may have been manipulative about biblical teachings. But lets face it, the bible itself is pretty draconian a book esp even in the new testament (let alone the old one) no matter which way you read it.
