  • I love how they sound exactly the same live which shows that they actually know what the hell theyre doing, unlike most music now

  • Keep hitting 9 lol

  • Lol "They are an acclaimed rock n' roll band from...France?"

  • @thepenguin81193 lmfao

  • LOL KEEP PRESSING 4

  • @Uncle69Jemima Why?

  • Live = studio recording

  • they sound just as good live!! simply amazing

  • So wild to see Thomas Hedlund go from playing soothing tunes with The Parishers to break-dance-drum-pounding with Phoenix! Love it!

  • is that an MPC i spy next to the drummer?

  • Drummy the drummer. jeeze watch him go

  • My respect for this band went WAY up after hearing this (:

  • this band is PERFECT live.

  • The drummer destroy the drum ;/

  • could be a death meattle drummer xDD

  • his awkward stage presence is just the best.

  • drummer is excellent !

  • whats your beef with the drummer? he livens it up

  • the drummer thought he was at a Slipknot tryout.

  • an indie band who has some passion! performing..

  • jesus they are tight live.

  • RIP......drum set from that night

  • all the white guys in the front getting all the glory and the black guy is in the back working his ass off

  • I love phoenix and its very rare for artists or bands to sound the same , they do a good job at that :)

  • Incredible live performance! Sounds identical to the album. Very rare. Awesome job.

  • What's up with the singer's wrist? He try to kill himself or something?

  • drummers having his own party back there

  • @jonahsteuer Drummers like fuck everything! lol

  • now its cool to launch the microphone

  • Amazing live voice!!!, The live is better than the album track itself.

  • great live voice!

  • i LOVE the guy in the red sweater's dance moves

  • i think i just got motion sickness from watching the drummer's head...

    pure awesome epic anti-fail.

  • I'm surprised the drummer's head did not fly right off his body

  • you know dave is like "don't fucking throw my mic, douchebag"

  • @txg11 Actually, I think it belonged to the band. It would make sense, what with sanitary conditions and the sorts.

  • @TwilightElk It is the bands. Phoneix uses fluorescent pink wires that glow in the dark. They crowd surefed at the show I witnessed, in the dark, and the cords were snaking everywhere.

  • @txg11 They don't use Dave's equipment they use their own

  • @txg11 (puts on melvin face) Actually, that mic more than likely belongs to the band. Most singers bring their own mics the same way a guitarist brings his own guitar. Every mic sounds different, and behaves differently. A good singer would never use a mic for a show unless he/she has used it before, and knows exactly how it's going to sound. I'm sure Dave doesn't give two shits if the singer throws his own mic or not :)

  • @txg11 You really think thats HIS mic? Get real, assface.

  • GREATEST BAND EVAR!!!

  • Amazing

  • esos vatos la rifan la rola es excelente

  • I LOVE THEM! PHOENIX WHOOOOOHOOOOOOOOO!

  • ughh! they're all just so darn awesome...

  • LMFAO HE JUST THREW THE MIC WHEN HE WAS DONE! XD

  • Drummer's a machine

  • @michaelangelomkII search navene koperweis, thats a machine

  • French do it harder, better, faster, stronger ; )

  • Comment removed

  • @KombiPode dude.. that was unnecessary. shame for you a member of phoenix is actually jewish. don't be racist.

  • @jiimmy567

he might be jewish but I bet he doesnt give a fuck about it.

And jews are not a race.

Jews are criminal banking mafia who control the world.

  • @KombiPode : jews are not criminal banking mafia -- they are industrious, ambitious, entrepreneurial, intelligent people who have managed to keep themselves alive and thriving despite everybody and his brother fucking with them...read your history book and don't be an ignorant prick...

  • @clemep

thats what they would like people like you to think they are. Read my history book? Why do you think over 100 nation states in the last 2000 years have thrown the jews out of their nation because of their usury and cabalism (mafia culture) which conspired to undermine the pillars of that nation and enslave all its people to serve the jews? Why you think the Magna Carta, the premise of the the US Constitution and Bill of Rights, specifically absolves all debts owed to jews?

  • @KombiPode well man if your not careful with what you say it's gonna come back and hit you in the face. just saying - mind your manners

  • Dvaid Letterman loves alternateive rock. that is why he always gets them all on his show. And I have seen over a 1000 of Dave walking out there to thank the band and I can tell you he thought they were the bomb.

  • "your girlfriend? Your girlfriend? Slipping away????"

  • @KombiPode ur girlfriend, oh your girlfriend, drifting away

  • Why stand still when you can rock out? This theory is perfectly executed by Phoenix.

  • i love this song has it come out in any commercial? i hv the feeling it has

  • one of our best electro band ...

    J'adore...

  • @S1629

J´adore means,. "already love"? I am leanring portuguese and its Ja Amore.I dont think I spelt it right but it means "Already love you"

  • @KombiPode J'adore means "I adore"

  • I love bands that are good live. <3

  • Just awesome

  • imagine the being the drummer in first person with all the head movements. now imagine that on acid

  • LMFAO !!! that drummer has some mad skills :D fuckin badass -33

  • @ 3:19 PAAAH! lol

  • Just as good as it is on the record!

  • this band is so fucking QUIRKY I LOVE IT.

  • Super tight.

  • Lol, just throw the mic *thump*

  • @Reketh haha

  • fyi - I believe that's Jason Faulkner on bass - just fyi. Not French.

  • @77hodag are you stupid or trolling because....

  • Oh, how I love the French. :-B

  • lol his wrist got messed up.

  • holy shit is that pedro winter on keyboard! I actually heard he played synth on funky squaredance but still that's cool

  • Some one has anger management issues (lookin at u drummer)

  • Très bon groupe & très bonne émission !

  • Dang! Where did that keyboardist teleport from...Spinal Tap?!? I want his job. Great performance.

  • I just saw these guys the other night. Definitely worth to see live.

  • haha the drummer

  • The drummer is going to town :) love it love it :)

  • They look so French! Lol I love Pheonix!

  • To all users who think it's lip synced he drop the mic at the end and it makes a noise if it was synced it wouldn't have

  • @demigod9876

never lip sync on Letterman. Its live. Those guys are decades playing together.

  • lol, funny drummer

  • Love It.

  • crank they're rad, and thomas mars is more wonderful than seashells and streetlights

  • the drummer is fairly enjoying himself

  • this has to be the most identical performance of an album song played live

  • they are actually very good technically- watch their take away shows for la blogotheque- they dont really make mistakes live

  • clearly live.... listen f.ex. to 1:47

  • or they all use the "VOX BOX " LIKE SARAH MCLAUGHIN

  • theyy soundd greatt; live(:

  • sounds like a studio track.dont get me wrong i love em too.but too clean to be live in a tv studio.

  • its live bro, they prob brought in their own sound engineer thats been with them for 10 or so years to make it sound that good

  • @warsaw117 na man, if you've saw any other live performances like la blogtheque under the eiffell tower, they are just really good!

  • i love thomas mars.

and their drummer- he's so into it.

    i love them!

  • this s french!

  • also that mic toss was really fucking slick

  • i want that dark telecaster......

  • The microphone toss is just awesome !

  • I felt sorry for the microphone :) But they're fucking great on stage, anyway.

  • The audio sounds excellent, just like how they recorded it in the album. Good skills. I really like this band (:

  • cause it was a studio track it was too clean to be live.

  • wow, they are pretty good live, thats crazy

you dont find that in most bands

  • didn't expect them to look like that

  • Drummer kills it looks like hes having a seizure the whole time lol

  • @dojoker7544 I love that Letterman asked if he was ok, but damn he got into that song. That'll get people dancing at a show.

  • I think it's pretty great that there are ppl on here who thik they sound too good to be performing live....shows just how good they really are. There's no way a real band like Phoenix would jeopardize their cred by pulling an "Ashlee Simpson"....they've just been around awhile and sound amazing. I saw them live years ago and they sounded just as good then too.

  • One of the best songs I've got on my ipod. I think that i'm gunna listen to it the rest of the day. Just cuza this song

  • i think i just crapped my pants that was sooo $@#$#@$ sick.

  • Also, I think Thomas Mars (the lead singer) might have a cold in this recording because his voice sounded perfect when I saw them, not nasally as in this recording. Laurent Brancowitz (the left guitarist) was in a short lived band with the two guys who are now Daft Punk. Apparently all the members experimented with electronic music when they were younger and thus learned the process of recording and producing your own music. That also could explain how they sound so perfect live... damn good

  • @sunflash489

They record all their albums in their basement they have played in forever. They have never recorded an album in a studio.

  • I was just watching an interview with phoenix, and I saw them sunday the 24th of january. They definitely don't use a backing track live, they are just great musicians and know their shit. In the interview the lead singer said they prefer recording their own stuff at home. You can see the drummer has a mixing board right next to him on stage. I think they might just know how to mix their sound exactly how they want for live recordings, and perhaps have some great sound engineer roadies.

  • This show sounds dead on with the track from the album.

  • i know! it's so good to have the 'art' of music coming back to mainstream. ha, i thought we were seriously screwed when rap became popular.. :)

  • because they are just dat good!!!!

  • Damn, sounds just like the album! These guys are amazing

  • drummer is killin it <3

  • Those Fender guitars and amps sound killer

  • dang the drummer is killin

    lol

  • @o0berific he was an ANIMAL during their set at Coachella!

  • lmao i think he just got a bad haircut.

  • bad haircuts are in. duh!!! lol

  • That drummer is incredible.

Also, this song is fantastic. Thanks for putting this up!

  • I love it when they go nuts like that. Looks awesome. Must get so fucking tired though.

  • i agree with matthewcoelhomusic tht drummer is awsome!

  • his voice is great

  • es una garcha

  • what happened to his hand/wrist?

  • Yes, the vocals are doubled. But this was a very good performance nevertheless. It seems like Letterman has way better audio-quality on the performances than Late Night or Tonight Show have. But yeah, Phoenix have developed a lot. This is a 10/10.

  • the drummer is amazing

    superb performance

  • heh, luv when he just truw the mic 3:18

  • TELECASTER POWER!!!

  • Damn I had no idea Phoenix's drummer completely pwned the drums like that. fantastic live set!

  • great performance, love the band. however, they ARE playing to a click track and there is a vocal track playing underneath his live vocal.

  • well that's just not true.

  • That is completely false.

  • lol my singer doesn't...

  • @themodernhuman

Click track there could be (only judging by the drummer's headphones but that is probably just normal monitoring) but the vocals seem to be doubled up live in what I would call the pre-chorus (by the guitarist stage left) and the chorus (by the guitarist stage right).

  • is it fallin or fold it?

  • He's saying "falling."

  • he's sayin fold it . no doubt

  • @vowtosi but it's so clearly "fallin"

  • @Marooth it's fold it.

  • @Underthegun369 but. you can see his mouth.

  • @Underthegun369 ok i take that back. the way he's pronouncing it just makes it sound like fall instead of fold.

  • @Marooth Haha, it's completely understandable. I had to look up the lyrics on their website to get it right.

  • @vowtosi

yeah that's my bad...i'm wrong haha

  • @TDAWGRLZ

    it's fold it

  • I'd like to buy this without the lyrics. The instruments can easily stand alone.

  • The drummer is awesome (Thomas Hedlund= greatness

  • beautiful band i like the drummer lol

  • its so weird that Thomas Hedlund plays in Phoenix. Don't get me wrong, I love Phoenix, although it's one of the very few "poppier" bands I like..

  • haha they have such a funky presence, they're all doing something strange!

    Makes me boogie

  • Good song. Just heard of them tonight. Wish there was more video of the drummer - very emotive!

  • The letterman show has a great sound system and the HD broadcast is sonically very high quality. These guys have been playing this song for months - it's just tight! Cool album.

  • you know nothing about music and how to "RECREATE" something that simple to play. It's called the right eq's and compressors and mics

  • What do you want them to play? A fucking eight minute solo to make you feel better about how it doesn't sound like the record

  • Im a drummer and i have spent alot of time convering Phoenix's tracks. Now if they were indeed playing to a backing track you would be able to hear the opening of the drummers hi-hat on the original track as he is playing very differently in this track. ChiefMcCloud is right its all about right eq' and compressing mics, as a qualified sound engineer i can guarentee you this is the real deal.

  • At like 0:20 if you listen really closely you can hear the guitarist fuck up very slightly. He hits a wrong sting and it sounds weird. Also the guitar tone in the beginning sounds different. It's totally live.

  • Check out Mute Math's Darren King. He's all about it.

  • so fucking good live, i wonder if they were pulling an ashley simpson, or if they are just capable of making sound exactly like the studio version. i think they're just really good

  • Their music isn't all that complicated, and the singer is pretty capable of singing well; they're good live performers.

  • it's agreed

  • LOVE that fuckin drummer! Look at him go!

  • i love how letterman always has vinyl...

    and that mic throw haha

  • haha that drummers insane

  • how?

  • umm

    just into it i guess.

  • hah i remember this....REALLY GOOD BAND!

  • glad this band is finally getting some airtime... so talented
