@TwilightElk It is the bands. Phoneix uses fluorescent pink wires that glow in the dark. They crowd surefed at the show I witnessed, in the dark, and the cords were snaking everywhere.
@txg11 (puts on melvin face) Actually, that mic more than likely belongs to the band. Most singers bring their own mics the same way a guitarist brings his own guitar. Every mic sounds different, and behaves differently. A good singer would never use a mic for a show unless he/she has used it before, and knows exactly how it's going to sound. I'm sure Dave doesn't give two shits if the singer throws his own mic or not :)
@KombiPode : jews are not criminal banking mafia -- they are industrious, ambitious, entrepreneurial, intelligent people who have managed to keep themselves alive and thriving despite everybody and his brother fucking with them...read your history book and don't be an ignorant prick...
thats what they would like people like you to think they are. Read my history book? Why do you think over 100 nation states in the last 2000 years have thrown the jews out of their nation because of their usury and cabalism (mafia culture) which conspired to undermine the pillars of that nation and enslave all its people to serve the jews? Why you think the Magna Carta, the premise of the the US Constitution and Bill of Rights, specifically absolves all debts owed to jews?
Dvaid Letterman loves alternateive rock. that is why he always gets them all on his show. And I have seen over a 1000 of Dave walking out there to thank the band and I can tell you he thought they were the bomb.
I think it's pretty great that there are ppl on here who thik they sound too good to be performing live....shows just how good they really are. There's no way a real band like Phoenix would jeopardize their cred by pulling an "Ashlee Simpson"....they've just been around awhile and sound amazing. I saw them live years ago and they sounded just as good then too.
Also, I think Thomas Mars (the lead singer) might have a cold in this recording because his voice sounded perfect when I saw them, not nasally as in this recording. Laurent Brancowitz (the left guitarist) was in a short lived band with the two guys who are now Daft Punk. Apparently all the members experimented with electronic music when they were younger and thus learned the process of recording and producing your own music. That also could explain how they sound so perfect live... damn good
I was just watching an interview with phoenix, and I saw them sunday the 24th of january. They definitely don't use a backing track live, they are just great musicians and know their shit. In the interview the lead singer said they prefer recording their own stuff at home. You can see the drummer has a mixing board right next to him on stage. I think they might just know how to mix their sound exactly how they want for live recordings, and perhaps have some great sound engineer roadies.
Yes, the vocals are doubled. But this was a very good performance nevertheless. It seems like Letterman has way better audio-quality on the performances than Late Night or Tonight Show have. But yeah, Phoenix have developed a lot. This is a 10/10.
Click track there could be (only judging by the drummer's headphones but that is probably just normal monitoring) but the vocals seem to be doubled up live in what I would call the pre-chorus (by the guitarist stage left) and the chorus (by the guitarist stage right).
The letterman show has a great sound system and the HD broadcast is sonically very high quality. These guys have been playing this song for months - it's just tight! Cool album.
