  • I think this riot and the subsequent deterioration of Detroit is one of the most interesting chapters in US history. I highly recommend the radio documentary "motor city burning" posted on youtube. It contains a lot of very frank eyewitness testimony, especially from members of the police force.

    thanks for posting this!

  • my parents were kids in detroit at the time. My brother's old boss was a detroit cop at the time, they were deputizing citizens, rolling around on pick up trucks with shotguns shooting looters on sight

  • i live neer detroit this is y people call it ghetto , it lasted 7 damn days wholy shit

  • Well done, but I have to disagree with a key part of the "rebellion" argument. It's absolutely true that police brutality, lack of opportunity and other factors directly created the environment, but most of the looting was opportunistic. There's a great first-person account of this in "Motor City Burning", a radio documentary posted on YT. Once looting started and wasn't being confronted, many more people (including some whites) quickly joined in

  • @jerryg1964 Thanks for taking the time to watch, Jerry ! And I agree with you, after the first day it basically turned into a free-for-all.
