  • This movie is so Weird

  • Damnit... he didn't even get a nomination!

  • You didnt win an Oscar. Even getting on your knees wont help at this point.

  • Whats the name of the song that play when the baby is growing up?

  • great music! it's sad that it's not nominated for best original score =(

I wrote a piece of music for The Tree of Life, please check it out

    /watch?v=wLwuedd5NNo

  • For those wondering, the piece that the son and the father play together (on guitar and piano) is called "Les Barricades Mysterieuses" by Couperin.

  • Does anyone know what the piano piece during the credits is called?

  • Does somebody know the name of the choir song played when they find out their son died?

  • @XXGabiXX I think you mean Lacrimosa ? you'll find the song with the list on your right ( with the Nabula picture)

  • you really recognise Desplat's touch, he's so great with the piano, I love his music...check this out!

  • ummm People Clint mansell and Alexander despalt are two different people. Alexander did this soundtrack and Clint does all of Darren aronofsky's films. am i the only one who is realizing this?

  • @Alchemist1330 No sir, I was thinking the same when I read the top comments.

  • @Alchemist1330 ur not alone my friend. i noticed too

  • chapeau

  • Desplat deserves all the oscars.

  • What a amazing beautiful film. The music was wondeful/

  • this is one of the worst films i have ever seen---truly excrutiating!

  • @lyrensutz Lol!...make sure you tune in when they announce the oscar nominations in a couple months.

  • "River" is my favorite!

  • I haven't seen a film so lyrical, poetic and haunting as The Tree Of Life.

  • How much of Desplat's score was actually used in the film? I remember most of it being classical pieces.

  • Awesome;again.

  • genius !

  • He would surely have an Oscar after he composed the music of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 and Part 2. It was really a great masterpiece and a perfect music that could only fully match to the film.

  • Does anyone else think this film will just clean up at the Oscars?

I've got doubts because it won at Cannes and there hasn't been a Palme D'Or and Academy Award Best Picture in about 70 years

  • @ewanmcfadyen I can't think of another film to come out this year that has even touched The Tree of Life. While I'm sure it is the top contender for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Cinematography, etc -- Malick's style will still prove tough for actors to claim any Oscars, despite Penn, Pitt, and Chastain's incredible performances. And as far the Palme d'Or comment, true it hasn't happened in a long time (though Apocalypse Now was snubbed) I have a feeling this film can if any ever will.

  • Alexandre Desplat is a genius.

  • This guy is above the Oscars. Everyone knows that show is rigged anyways.

  • It's official, Alexandre Desplat is the new John Williams. His score for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Parts I and II were also incredible. I really hope he wins his long deserved Oscar this year for this film.

  • It's so strange, when I don't care about movie... but I care about fact, that Alexandre Desplat has written new music. And I Die, And I discover my life once again with his music.

  • Motherhood is my favorite track on the album. It's perfect.

  • much of the music in the film is not on the album on itunes so buyer beware!!!

  • This is one of my top movie soundtracks of all time.

  • I can't seem to find the song where there's these loud female vocals. She's screaming and it's during one of the special effects scenes first half of the movie. Any one know what song that is?

  • @quillakiller I'vebeen looking too and i finally found it. Lacrimosa by Zbigniew Preisner.

  • @johnandyoko4ever Thanks! Best song from the movie imo

  • Absolutely beautiful.

  • These compositions all seem to carry a certain delicate and canorous despondency--far too sober and reconciled for tears, but nonetheless haunting; each piece seems to describe someone desperately yearning for something beyond the perceived, or perhaps contained within the perceived--to uncover or acknowledge something supposedly hidden but that is actually so obvious that it has only been distorted due to some abstraction. Maybe I am going too far in. Anyone else feel that way while listening?

  • @BoyAsVenus i agree... the simplest, MOST mundane procedures/happenings/aka "life in general" , paused for a second or 3 and the opportunity, along with the levity of the soundtrack that added too, for deeper thought and discernment for each situation was provoked.. breathtaking film, and as soon as i left the theatre i was exclaiming, " I CANT WAIT TO BUY THE SOUNDTRACK!!!"

  • I bought this and was very disappointed that the Patrick Cassidy track, "Funeral March", wasn't on it. Considering it is absolutely the music most associated with the film, this is very deceptive. DO NOT BUY THIS CD IF YOU EXPECT TO GET THE MUSIC FROM THE TRAILER. It ain't on the disc.

  • @wtfttfg It's uncommon for music used in the trailer to be on the OST for most movies.

  • @lilrocker99 Not when that music's also in the film it's not.

  • @wtfttfg Ah, I assumed it wasn't in the movie, sorry.

  • I liked the Benjamin Button soundtrack he did.

  • He really deserves an award for this, I love the fountain soundtrack too.

  • @Ruehaniel The fountain was scored by Clint Mansell, not Desplat, and they have much different styles!!

Anyway, I agree, I wish he earns an Oscar someday.

  • @Ruehaniel The Fountain was alll Clint Mansell. @_@

  • @Ruehaniel he didn't do the fountain soundtrack clint mansell did

  • @Ruehaniel The Fountain Soundtrack is done by Clint Mansell (with the Kronos Quartett). But I agree: Alexandre Desplat deserves an Oscar. One of hollywoods finest composers these days.

  • @Ruehaniel nice music, but the fountain was mansell. wrong artist or completely irrelevent; your choice..

  • @Ruehaniel the fountain soundtrack is composed by clint mansell! the one and only

  • @Ruehaniel the fountain is by clint mansell not alexander desplat

  • Nothing interesting but "River".

  • @Ruehaniel For me, The Fountain is one of the best OSTs out there. I think it is only rivaled by Requiem for Dream OST.

  • @BarcaFury Which is from the same composer xD

  • @sickness324 Clint Mansell does great work.

  • @BarcaFury Totally agree.

  • Respond to this video... The Fountain and Requiem for a dream have the same composer

  • @Ruehaniel he didn't do the fountian clint masell did but both are very good composers

  • @Ruehaniel That's great but he didn't do The Fountain that was Clint Mansell.

  • @xiaomeitian And Clint Mansell definitly deserves an oscar, allready since the score of PI!

  • he didnt do the score for it.... awkward.

  • Can this guy finally get a much deserved Oscar?

  • @wowbobwow37 He makes films because he likes to, not for an award. Even if he got nominated and the Academy told him he would win he would not show up. It's not important to him.

  • @wowbobwow37 Surely for this he will. Although not in film season, something this powerful HAS to get at least an oscar nod. Right??

  • @wowbobwow37 IKR? Desplat is soon to be up there with John Williams, James Horner, Hans Zimmer, etc. He's composed music for King's Speech, The Queen, Deathly Hallows Part 2, and this too. Amazing soundtrack composer with versatility.

  • @wowbobwow37 Excuse me, but why an Oscar is a measurement of achievements? Alfred Hitchcock, Stanley Kubrick, Orson Wellles - they never received Oscar for Directing, but does anyone have any doubt about their directing genius in history of cinema?

  • @infilmart You are right, in fact a few times movies that win Best Picture are forgotten and others that weren't even nominated are remembered by the futures generations.

  • first!
