ummm People Clint mansell and Alexander despalt are two different people. Alexander did this soundtrack and Clint does all of Darren aronofsky's films. am i the only one who is realizing this?
He would surely have an Oscar after he composed the music of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 and Part 2. It was really a great masterpiece and a perfect music that could only fully match to the film.
@ewanmcfadyen I can't think of another film to come out this year that has even touched The Tree of Life. While I'm sure it is the top contender for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Cinematography, etc -- Malick's style will still prove tough for actors to claim any Oscars, despite Penn, Pitt, and Chastain's incredible performances. And as far the Palme d'Or comment, true it hasn't happened in a long time (though Apocalypse Now was snubbed) I have a feeling this film can if any ever will.
It's official, Alexandre Desplat is the new John Williams. His score for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Parts I and II were also incredible. I really hope he wins his long deserved Oscar this year for this film.
It's so strange, when I don't care about movie... but I care about fact, that Alexandre Desplat has written new music. And I Die, And I discover my life once again with his music.
I can't seem to find the song where there's these loud female vocals. She's screaming and it's during one of the special effects scenes first half of the movie. Any one know what song that is?
These compositions all seem to carry a certain delicate and canorous despondency--far too sober and reconciled for tears, but nonetheless haunting; each piece seems to describe someone desperately yearning for something beyond the perceived, or perhaps contained within the perceived--to uncover or acknowledge something supposedly hidden but that is actually so obvious that it has only been distorted due to some abstraction. Maybe I am going too far in. Anyone else feel that way while listening?
@BoyAsVenus i agree... the simplest, MOST mundane procedures/happenings/aka "life in general" , paused for a second or 3 and the opportunity, along with the levity of the soundtrack that added too, for deeper thought and discernment for each situation was provoked.. breathtaking film, and as soon as i left the theatre i was exclaiming, " I CANT WAIT TO BUY THE SOUNDTRACK!!!"
I bought this and was very disappointed that the Patrick Cassidy track, "Funeral March", wasn't on it. Considering it is absolutely the music most associated with the film, this is very deceptive. DO NOT BUY THIS CD IF YOU EXPECT TO GET THE MUSIC FROM THE TRAILER. It ain't on the disc.
@Ruehaniel The Fountain Soundtrack is done by Clint Mansell (with the Kronos Quartett). But I agree: Alexandre Desplat deserves an Oscar. One of hollywoods finest composers these days.
@wowbobwow37 He makes films because he likes to, not for an award. Even if he got nominated and the Academy told him he would win he would not show up. It's not important to him.
@wowbobwow37 IKR? Desplat is soon to be up there with John Williams, James Horner, Hans Zimmer, etc. He's composed music for King's Speech, The Queen, Deathly Hallows Part 2, and this too. Amazing soundtrack composer with versatility.
@wowbobwow37 Excuse me, but why an Oscar is a measurement of achievements? Alfred Hitchcock, Stanley Kubrick, Orson Wellles - they never received Oscar for Directing, but does anyone have any doubt about their directing genius in history of cinema?
@infilmart You are right, in fact a few times movies that win Best Picture are forgotten and others that weren't even nominated are remembered by the futures generations.
This movie is so Weird

For those wondering, the piece that the son and the father play together (on guitar and piano) is called "Les Barricades Mysterieuses" by Couperin.

Does anyone know what the piano piece during the credits is called?

I've got doubts because it won at Cannes and there hasn't been a Palme D'Or and Academy Award Best Picture in about 70 years
