The music of the 60's will forever remain as the most innovative and stylistic of all time. This is music 'touched by the hand of God' and echoes endless across the universe. That is why aliens have been showing up. They want to meet the really cool people who have made such awesome music. All they find though is a civilization not civilized at all by all empirical evidence.
Pffft, there's good music and culture these days that rivals the quality of the best 60's music, it just goes by un-noticed as all the shitty music of this generation reaps the fame.
People will look back at the 50's, 60's, 70's as a Renaissance of Culture...some have held on...most surrendered to MTV and media hype. Some dreamed they could change the world, most dreamed they could just get rich. Some things never change, only sometimes. Bless us all.
Maybe not the 50's IMO. Also, music as good as the 60's IS being made today, it just doesn't receive any attention. If you want great music similar to this in style, try checking out Tame Impala. They sound straight out of the 60's and are simply amazing!
I,in my humble belief,is that some of the most beautiful music ever created my Man came out of the 1960's!!,with also maybe music from Mozart, and Beethoven's time. There was so much love and emotion from the notes and the lyrics, that it's like from the heart,is what makes it what it is,timeless.
Indeed I always thought this was about Vietnam, but the version of cdishmo is not so bad too. But I also thought the purple berries reffered to the purple haze trips? That what Jimmy Hendrix is also singing about? But I might be wrong ofcourse. Still, stays one of the most beautiful songs I ever heard.
also, this verse appears to relate to vietnam too. 2:38-3:00. all that grips us as we watch you die, all we can do is echo your anguished cries, stare, as all human feelings die, we are leaving, you don't need us!!! beautiful, beautiful harmonies. wow!!!!
are you guys kidding. this song is about one thing, Vietnam!!! check the lyric. i can see by your coat, my friend your from the other side, there's just one thing we got to know can you tell me please, Whoooo Won! 1:09 to 1:22. the basic meaning in this song, know one side really wins in a war!!!
Today, Tuesday 10/7/08 after first hearing this song 39 years ago, I picture the wooden ships coming from Europe and the Native Americans welcoming them. And the purple berries as food that kept the Pilgrims alive when they were starving. Maybe my interpretation is all wrong. The wooden ships could be going anywhere.
I always thought that Guinevere was written by Stephen Stills and David Crosby and refered to Judy Collins, just like the song Suite Judy Blue Eyes. Judy was the woman loved by Stephen Stills at that time. But I might be wrong ofcourse.
Help please !!! I think that CSNY made a song in the seventies where the main theme was a soldier, the year 1776 and a tombstone. Anybody knows the title of that song if it was made by them or one of them ??? It could be another band too. Thanks for any help.
my era started 1983 proper but I can't get over how how good this sounds, listened to it for the last 17 years...that sixties bass sound that no one duplicates anymore..high notes on the bass just love it all the sound is so good
im begging the original poster to take Neil Young's name off of the title.Young joined later right before the release of the 2nd album. You should know this by now.COME ON!!I'd rather you put Paul Kantner's name alongside Crosby and Stills.
Yeah, So Far is a greatest hits album. This was from Crosby, Stills & Nash, Young wasn't even in the band yet. Love the song, sounds best on a vinyl though. Everything does.
nice song, though Neil Young wasnt yet in the band when they recorded this
