Can someone please help me? I have a K100d that is just fantastic but I'm looking for an upgrade. Should I buy this model or upgrade even further to the K20d? (I'm a student on a budget, so I'd probably buy used no matter what)
I really wanted to buy K-x, but I honestly am waiting for your review first... Pentaxian1 i think is sick of the people asking him to let you review the pentax. heheheh :) and I'm on of them :)
@WilliamTsengsta I can't comment on Pentax anymore becuase they refuse to send me cameras to test. Please contact Pentaxian1 and ask them to support me if you'd like to see more Pentax reviews. As for the models I have tested, please see the best buys section at cameralabs . com...
The camera is awesome.Well worth money. The very bad thing I found is the AA during winter or cold..well, they are good during 20+C conditions.I use rechargable, and 200-300picures I get normaly.Sometimes I keep them for months inside, and they work no problem. The VERY bad thing is during winter, or when it's cold, I get like 5-10 pictures. You need to keep the batteries worm really, or they just don't work. I haven't used regular during cold,so I don't know about that, but rechargable-BAD in cold
I'm using Sanyo Eneloop AA rechargeable batteries and I'm happy with it.
Duracell, Energizer ( rechargeable batteries ) didn't do so well.
This is good camera with a great price ( if you can still find it), but it's better to bay body + some other 18-55mm with larger lens and not the original with
I wonder if you can turn off the big LCD and just use the top LCD for function settings. I find the big bright LCD extremely annoying, especially when I shoot in a dark place, like a jazz club, for instance. With my Sony A900, I couldn't get the main LCD to deactivate completely, what a bummer! It's either I am so stupid I don't know how to do this, or the camera is not designed well.
as presenter said, k200d is more related to k10d; a solid semi-pro model, so it's definetly a better choice for a serious amateur, i have it and i like it. kit lens is mediocre though as they usually are...
Can you please help me? Every time I take a picture that is maybe.....2 or 3 feet in front of me, the picture turns out SO SO SO BRIGHT even WHITE! I have even changed the exposure & it steal doesn't change it!!! PLEASE HELP ME!
Is the flash going off? If it is, try increasing the aperture. If it's not, then yeah, lower ISO, and if that doesn't fix it, increase the shutter speed.
So, if the top LCD is not backlit and the main LCD's exposure info is not updated in real time, what do you do if you're taking nightshots? Hit-and-miss? Might be just something you get used to though..
hi thanks for all ur videos, they help me alot in learning photography with my pentax k200d,infact u r the only GURU i have, thanks alot.i wait to see more of u soon on youtube and cameralabs,
They're pretty much the same I think. The size of the K10D is bigger and better ergonomics if you have bigger hands. I have the K10D, and with the right lenses, you can do very well with sports. I don't miss having more speed than 3FPS which the K10D has. I use the DA* 50-135mm for sport, and it does very well. The image quality is stunning with pixel sharpness.
Try to hold both, use the one that fits your hands best, I don't think you'll get better advice than that as the cameras are so alike.
There are some differences in the menues of course as the K200D is newer than the K10D. But you lack some buttons on the K200D since it's a smaller body. Also, the batteries are different. 4xAA for the K200D vs. custom battery for the K10D. And the buffer lets the K10D take more pictures at full speed (3 FPS) while the K200D has less space in the buffer which won't let it shoot at full speed (2.8 FPS) as long as the K10D.
hey gordan, thank you for this video it really helped a lot. i got this baby camera last summer and fell deeply in love recently cuz the pictures turn out amazing:D btw, i read this sentence on your website for the review"So is it a bargain version of a former flagship, or a cut-down compromise which lacks the latest features? ", would you mind list some of the latest features that it lacks? thank you so much:D
Oh, please! This camera seems to be perfect. Just when I thought I had made up my mind, this baby comes along. How about the IQ? You rarely discuss that in the videos. Is it comparable to the 450d (if the latter is set to optimal sharpness)?
Hi PHOTOLAB, if you check the About Us section at cameralabs . com, you'll see I've been a professional reviewer for 16 years. The manufacturers have known me for a long time, so they loan me equipment to review - it's the same way magazines get their equipment. If you want to get into this, I'd suggest trying to get a job on a magazine which reviews the things you're interested in. That's how I started in 1992!
great camera,i just got it as a present with sigma dg macro 70-300mm. i like camera but sigma is a bit awful at low aperture :) Kit lens is good enough :) at that price point pentax offers much more than canon and nikon .
I 'shure' will! What models do you recommend? Sadly the camcorder I currently use is a Sony which doesn't have a normal mic input - only their proprietary accessory shoe. But I may switch to a different camera in the future with a proper mic input.
Thinking about sound? Get a camcorder that has a Mic-input, then get a XLR adapter from Beachtek, a XLR shotgun mic and a clip-on lavalier. My standard setup for an interview. If you're outside get a windscreen though. Shure isn't the only brand though, there's good ones like from Audio-Technica and Sennheiser. I personally like my own RODE NTG-1, pro broadcast-grade sound for $250.
Thanks for the tip... I now have a camcorder with a mic input - unlike the Sony model used for these videos - so I'll look into improving my audio. One question though - why not get a lavalier mic with a 3.5mm jack instead of an XLR model with an adapter? Don't you lose any benefits of XLR if you don't have a proper XLR input?
Only thing i didn't agree with was 16/20 on the Handling rating. It may be heavier than other entry-level dslr, but it is ergonomically much superior to all the plasticky canons, nikons, and sonys.
Thanks for your comments! To explain, the handling score is about more than just the build quality - it encompasses controls, continuous shooting, AF performance, compositional options and more besides!
I love the fact that you actually take the time to respond to our replies! The personal touch is so undervalued these days. Keep up the excellent work!
It depends on the supplier; you may need to buy the K200D body and the 18-250mm as seperate items. But for an up-to-date price on this lens and the camera, check the features page of our full review at cameralabs . com.
