I don't agree in ending horse slaughter, as I believe death is a much kinder fate then suffering in neglect for who knows how long. I would, however, like to see a plan for humane euthanasia/slaughter, as there's no reason to make horses (or any animal, for that matter) suffer. I would also like to see more education about back yard breeders, who contribute to this mess.

Horse cruelty is wrong. However, they are animals just like cows, chickens, pigs, etcs, only a little bigger and as long as they are cared for as the above animals are cared for and treated humanely then slaughtering them in the end should not be against the law. You can't show a preference for animal because you think it's cute or loving. If you ban the slaughtering of horses then we should also ban the slaughtering every other animal, should we not?

People are so ignorant to the facts of what ending horse slaughter has actually done to horses. They said that when they passed the law to close the horse slaughter houses that horse neglect rates wouldn't go up, but they have increased greatly. With todays economy, many people can't afford to feed their horses like they could 5 years ago. And needless to say, horses market is no good either, so no one will buy "backyard pets", so people just let their horses starve

@ kelliefan1017 - The slaughter auction industry is still very much alive and well, the numbers of U.S. horses going to slaughter has not changed at all (they mainly go to Canada now).

The horse slaughter trade is an unnecessary evil anyway. The only reason it exists is to make money by supplying foreign demand for horsemeat.
