Weekend Update with Jane Curtin (It was before Dan was part of those skits, and Chevy Chase was not there), probably autumn 1976 as a WAG, Jane announced that Elton John had "come out of the closet" and announced that he was a bisexual. Which had happened earlier that week. Then she proceeded to talk about Speedy Alka-Seltzer, who had also come out of the (Medicine) closet and announced that he was a "bicarbonate." Rest was hysterical. anyone know if that skit is avail on youtube?
I'm still waiting to see Jane go up in a huge Mushroom Cloud of a nuclear explosion after getting UTTERLY DESTROYED by Dan Aykroyd, LOL. She knew right then.. that's it.. "That's the news, goodnight and have a pleasant tomorrow".. even if it wasn't the actual end of the show.. you knew she had NO comebacks for that, lmao.
Hands down this is the funniest skit in television history. Jane pontificating with a sanctimonious tone followed by Dan just saying Jane you ignorant slut puts me in stitches. Jane Curtin was such a good sport to do this Point Counterpoint spoof for years.
Point/Counterpoint was inspired by the regular closing segment with the same name that featured Shana Alexander & James Kilpatrick on 60 Minutes at the time. I love how Jane and Dan made buffoons out of Alexander & Kilpatrick. To prove that there were actually knuckleheads working in its news dept., CBS attempted to revive Point/Counterpoint in the mid-1990s, featuring P. J. O'Rourke, Molly Ivins & Stanley Crouch. Praise the lord for Andy Rooney!
This is the one skit I can recite off the top of my head with no problem fron dan ackroyds point of view because it is a classic . Thanks for finally posting it .
@dennisdman11 Same here. I tried posting it years ago but it kept getting blocked. I would recite this whole thing for friends over and over and they all cracked up each time for years now, lol.
@eoppen You are absolutely right about that!! I especially miss good ol' Dan A. He was awesome in just about all of his skits. I cannot believe that someone actually disliked this skit. A flaming liberal Women's Libber?? Maybe it is simply somebody who has zero sense of humor. I am seeking Dan Aykroyd skits in which he played arts critic Leonard Pinth-Garnell. Used to describe "Bad Chinese Ballet" as putrid, horrendous, "really bit the big one!" LOL
my left ear loved this video

@LukeRossTheBoss That's what happens when it's recorded from a VCR output.. you only get it in mono, so it's either left or right side.
