When I was a young child, my great aunt showed me the uniform and saber that a great uncle of mine carried in the Civil War. He was an officer from Ohio. I don't know what happen to either, she died while I was in Vietnam. However, it gave me a link to my past that I have never forgotten, particularly after being in a war and knowing the sacrifices that soldiers endured for their country. As I get older, I appreciate more and more those links to the past. God bless American.

totally different war but yes i agree i am part of the National guards and Reenactor/skirmisher . My friend was him by sharpnel, but its basically friendly fire now days ;( to me the civil war was the most interesting war that frought on this soil. Truly a unique song. There aren't too many contemplative things like this, and I really enjoyed it. I re-enact and try everything I can to get "in the moment" and thinking about the questions the boy/man is asking himself before he goes into battle helps me get the mindset. Not having gone into combat, I'll never really know.
