This video ends about 8 blocks west of where I grew up. Thanks for the ride. It has changed little over the years since I grew up there in the 70's. The place we used to pull off the road and party on Fri & Sat nights is now a picnic area (at 3:04 in the clip).
This looks like a regular divided highway to me. I though Expressways were controlled access highways with over and under passes amd grade separated interchanges! No turning lanes or intersecting roads, period.
@EdM021 a divided highway can be the same as a expressway . expressways are really the same exact thing just another fancy word . expressways however feature minimal at-grade crossings, more than 2 lanes and must retain a speed limit of 50 or more mph. a divided highway can be 1x1 or 2x2 but have variations in speed limits, and can have at grade or above crossings.
@ScrewdUPClickV2 Did the feds come up with that definition? Because if they did they screwed up almost all the eastern states that call their freeways and tollways "expressways." And they're still called that. It's so common, even in Illinois and Louisiana that I still consider expressways to be synonymous with freeways and tollways.
@EdM021 definition of a frwy = to designed standards of 50mph or more atleast 4 lanes in both directions , no stoplights / signs. mile postings , require shoulder and entrance access lane
expressway = 50mph or more , with at grade crossings such as a turn around , or lights .requires 4 lanes 2x2. no requierments of the following shoulder, access lane
highway = speed may vary but can have as littly as 2 lanes 1x1, no requierments of the following shoulder, access lane
@ScrewdUPClickV2 Do you know who came up with the definition? Sounds like something the Feds would do, after several states had already gone and called their freeways and tollways expressways.
@EdM021 you are correct about this being a highway for the first min and 30 seconds . however as soon as the corridor gains 2 additional lanes it now becomes a expressway.
@Kyukanbun the entire route is qualified as a expressway .. the terms that qualify are at grade crossovers , at grade turn arounds , no dividing barriers, lights .. it cant be more classified as a expressway than this . A expressway can be as little as 2 lanes if speeds meet a certain criteria above 50 mph .
Have you recorded the highway that goes to the Santa Teresa, NM Port of Entry (alternative to El Paso/Ciudad Juarez)? Its near Anthony, TX, NM. Its called the Pete Domenici Highway. I passed through there last year on my way to Mexico and it was a lot faster than going through Downtown El Paso.
@OnThatPowder There are Letter's formed by white rocks. There's a "J" for Jefferson High School, "A" for Austin High School, "M" for the Miners of UTEP, "E" for El Paso High School, and a "C" for Coronado High School.
In the mountains in Juarez, facing El Paso are the words " Cd. Juarez - La Biblia es la Verdad, leela", which translates to Ciudad (spanish for city) Juarez - The Bible is the Truth, read it.
Reminds me of the 7 Hills Road on US-322. While I realize that 322 doesn't get anywhere near that height the down hill on it is really scary because everything is built in real tight.
Question about your comment that it being the only roadway that goes to the top of a mountain in the state of Texas. How are you eliminating US 62/180 through the Guadeloupe Mountains?
@guyatacomputer im aware of the roadway ...yes its on a mountain . and the tallest peak in texas .. but as in a mountain pass to a mountain peak with the roadway built through the mountain is wat i meant .. us-62/180 just kinda moves around the mountain peaks ..
Hmm...that's the highway the prison bus took us on, on our way to La Tuna Federal Prison in Anthony. I see they put a Dairy Queen @ the 10 fwy now. LOL Thanx for the memories.

Great video! You're getting out into my home terrain(the SW US). The earthwork on the east side of the hill is new since I was last there, looks like maybe they're getting ready to install cement barriers in the median to prevent crossover crashes.
@aswchris The Transmountain Road portion of Loop 375 runs through Franklin Mountains State Park, immediately East of this, is US-54, where LP375 becomes Woodrow Bean as it enters the Northeast side of El Paso where it continues for a bout 3 miles before it becomes the Purple Heart Freeway as it enters Ft. Bliss territory.
The sections is the state park and Ft. Bliss are the desert, basin-looking areas, but they're not basins lol
@willubhave they are in process of widening it as we speak .. it wil become a 2x2 and or a 2x3 on the uphill or down hill sections of roadway soon .. my speed downhill .. i was braking totally b4 a curve .. from 80-to 60 and so on . 8% grade was the most ive seeno n the trip and this was it , but it didnt look like it
@Freewayjim Jim , honestly book your flght now .. the sw in totally amazing .. this is only the little sprinkle of the icing on the cake . thanks for watching bro
@CptSchmidt thans Capt .. thats a ineresting comment .. but i do know the answer . it is more economic for the state of Texas to blow or slowely cut there way through a section than digging a massive trench and or tunnel.. the camera doesnt really show what the dig through is here.
@CptSchmidt but Texas freeways site , describs it as the most elaborte excavation through a mountain in usa history .. it was my pure estimate of appx 300 ft at the lowest .. TXDOT currently only maintaines one under ground tunnel in the entire state, and its has proven to be a big mstake for budget wise .. houston ship channel
gotta luv el paso ! shout outs to my hometowners!

Awesome video, I haven't had the opportunity to go on this one.
If you get the opportunity you should make a video of some Big Bend Nat'l Park, beautiful scenery.

Expressway? Not really. Because there is also 2-lane "expressway(0:30~1:28)."
