The original trilogy lightsaber battle shit all over the new ones. These are so epic whereas the new ones are pure garbage, choreographed ballet bullshit. The atmopshere and emotion in the originals destroy everything in the new ones. Even Vader vs Obi-Wan in a New Hope is better by a million miles. The orginal battles are character driven. The new ones fail cause there have absolutely no character.

@Hallucination wow! another Star Wars fan who noticed the exact same thing I did! Qui-gon vs Maul had no magic, regardless of the speed of the combat, there was no dialogue whatsoever. Than qui gon died and Obi faced off against Maul just as though Obi-Wan was the hero of the story and he and Maul had been nemisises. For the birds!

This duel has the best atmosphere out of all the duels in the series. The moment at .30 where the two of them are these shadow figures armed with swords of light is one of the most iconic in the series.

There is a REASON why music was not originally in his duel. Besides the fact this track wasn't written in 1980. That's the problem with the new duels, is the dialog and the music. Music is good and all but no music in a fight scene draws the viewer in making it ore real. I.E. Bourne Ultimatum. Dialog is what made this scene truely shine, which in this version is over shadowed by your musical choice. Which is selected from a far inferior Star Wars Film.

There was music written for this duel. It was never added in the movie.... but it was added in the CD sound track. However..... I do agree with you about this duel. It works because the music was added.

Its not freaky at all. The reason they don't spout blood is because a light saber can cut through anything, thus making it hotter then lava. If one of your limbs is cut off and you burn the limb it seals up. So in this sense when Luke gets his hand sliced off it instantly seals up.

That's a good point. If I had to guess, I'd say because both cuts (to the leg and arm respectively) were only superficial and very light, which would probably cause an incomplete cauterization. In every other lightsaber wound (barring the OT due to insufficient SFX technology), you can clearly see that the wound is cauterized and not bleeding.

I would say it's because originally, Lucas didn't plan to have lightsabers cauterize wounds. That's something he decided later.

@RegenerationStorm Actually your wrong there. Anakins lightsaber in episode 2 got crushed by a machine while his arm was in it. Thus after the battle with count Dooku he was to construct his own model with a few changes in the hilt. 2nd of all Luke found a book on how to construct a lighttsaber at Obi-Wans hut back on Tatooine that Obi-Wan was writing for those 19 years "Dark Times". And its a Jedi tradition to have your Lightsaber hilt modeled similar to your masters. So yeah that explains it.

@JoeyAdamsTAW ok , but youre also wrong there too - anakins lightsaber looked nothing like obi wan's in attack of the clones? and also , what i meant by 2-3 is that in the ending scenes , anakin would have been given another lightsaber in the same style to the destoryed one from attack of the clones (eg the wedding scene , anakin would have a fixed version) but yh , as i explained , this lightsaber is given to luke , but he finally looses it in his duel with vader at Cloud city
